Getting back into it

By draco193, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just a quick list that I'm thinking of taking to the store for a league night. It's been awhile since I last played but Defenders have always been a personal favorite and the Inquiisitor seems to be a great high threat pairing.

The Inquisitor — TIE Advanced Prototype 25

Push the Limit 3

Autothrusters 2

TIE/v1 1

Ship Total: 31

Colonel Vessery — TIE Defender 35

Veteran Instincts 1

Heavy Laser Cannon 7

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II 1

Ship Total: 44

Scimitar Squadron Pilot — TIE Bomber 16

Extra Munitions 2

Cluster Missiles 4

Seismic Charges 2

Guidance Chips 0

Ship Total: 24

I've been toying with Inquisitor with bomber pairings, and I love Defenders. So, I'm watching this list feedback.

I think the Ion Engine is vital to the Defender.

As I look at your list, you have two hot ships, and a bomber that might get picked on for being left behind and yet, loaded with ordinance. One trick will be to get the first target lock to seed Vessery's shot and follow up. That will probably be the Inquisitor. In which case, VI on Vessery is a disadvantage. Inquisitor can stay back and pop-shot if needed.

Thanks for the input. I'm not certain I understand your point about vessery. The Inquisitor is at PS8 and I'll need vessery to shoot before him to take advantage of his target lock.

As for the bomber I've gone back and forth on adding a Tie/fo or an AC tempest with concussion middles to add some bite as well. I do like the bomber though for its ability to really finish hard and absorb a bit of punishment if folks choose to chase him.instead of the heavy hitters

This might be my fault for my limited experience. With VI, Vessery would be at PS8, which isn't needed, since he would be going after the Inquisitor. At least that's how I visualized using the set up you describe. I see that you may mean to use the Inquisitor to fire using his own target lock the same turn. However, I thought of using the Inquisitor to obtain a target lock, let it ride during his turn (shoot something else) then Vessery picks it up in PS6 turn. For that matter, the Inquisitor can just leave the TL on until that target is destroyed by the Defender, or himself. I wouldn't want to have to use the Inq. action each time to land a TL for Vessery. But, I differ to the more experienced players around here. Or, I'm mis-reading the rule's intent - a good possibility too.

Your addition of a loaded bomber does make some hard choices for the enemy - which is usually a good thing.

Vessery needs to be PS 8. Saving Inqy's TL just to improve Vess' shot is not always ideal (yes, there will be times when Inqy doesn't need to spend it, but that will be rare since TL is his primary offensive mod---especially on turns when he can't afford to focus).

I think the build is fine except the Bomber should be a Gamma. PS 4 will allow you to get Target locks a bit easier vs PS 2/3. You can drop seismics to make it happen. I also think you will get better value out of a concussion missile. Range 3 is where you will be wanting to fire your ordnance more often than not...
