Store Championship - Cambridgeshire

By bwingstrike, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So this weekend was my local Store Championship run by The Hobbit Hole in Chatteris . There were 14 players overall.

The List:

Guri - Predator & Autothrusters - 35

Palob - Ion Cannon Turret - 25

Cartel Marauder x 2 - 40

This was the same list I ran at the last store championship a couple of weeks ago. Guri was my ace, boosting and barrel rolling for the best shots. Palob would hopefully be a nuiscence, stealing crucial tokens and hopefully getting some good use out of the ion. The Kihraxz were my hammer, get in close and be aggressive and throw some red dice.

Game 1 vs Carnor, Vader & Palp Shuttle

This match was defined by Guri's amazing red dice. After a head on range one exchange, she did 4 damage, whilst only taking 1 shield back. After she slooped in behind, it was 4 hits every turn and the shuttle was gone. I then managed to get Vader in arc of all my ships and did absolutely no damage to him. That changed the following turn as he was blown from the sky. Carnor never got into the game in a meaningful way and was eventually taken out. I lost Kihraxz mid game.

Win 100-20

Game 2 vs Boba & Bossk

This game would be against Ian, who runs the tournaments I go to in Milton Keynes, so it made a change to get to play against him! This game was awful for me. I stupidly got Guri blown up in the third turn after setting her off on her own. Then my opponent set up the perfect bomb drop after a 4k in front of my ships. Coupled with me forgetting the anti pursuit lasers and non stop bumps, it was soon down to a 1 hp Boba and full health Bossk against Palob. Bossk eventually took out the HWK and I deservedly lost.

Lost 24-100

Game 3 vs Dengar, Talonbane (With Cloak) & a Z-95

This game could have ended very differently had my opponents dice been better. Talonbane managed to k-turn perfectly behind my ships at range 1, but did only 1-2 damage in total, whilst I took out the Z-95. After that Dengar took no actions as it bumped into me every turn, whilst Palob led Talonbane in an Ioned walk to the boards edge. I lost a Kihraxz in reply.

Win 100-20

Game 4 vs Dengar & HLC Houndstooth

This game was against Luke, who I have faced a few times now and have mixed success against him. This game was over in about 15 minutes. Palob couldn't get any Ion hits through and my ships slowly disintegrated. I managed to get all his ships down to half health, but that was as good as it got.

Lost 48-100

So that put me on 2-2 overall and into 6th place, so I managed to win one of those lovely range rulers.

So the tournament taught me a few things:

1) Don't forget what upgrades your facing. I forgot the bombs & anti pursuit lasers in my second game, which was costly.

2) Don't send a Starviper off on its own against 2 big ships, it doesn't end well.

I don't have another tournament until the Regionals in May, and I have no idea what to run in that, although it probably won't be this list, as its now had 2-3 outings and I fancy a change!

I think it's awesome how many different squads there are to match people's play style. I would probably not run a squad like this, but I can't deny it has some firepower. Nice report.

Do you wish Guri had more upgrades? She's light so you can fit in 2 marauders, but I really like Sensor Jammer on her.

There were a lot of varied lists. It was one by a Soontir & Deci list. Bit there was a Tie Swarm, Keyan, Poe & B-Wing as well as a quad ion list.

Guri is pretty light as the original list was the Sensor Jammer Guri and 3 Kihraxz. But I dropped the Jammer to add Palob in place of a Kihraxz. I'm 50/50 as to which I prefer. I came 2nd out of 32 with the Jammer Guri. This current build is currently 9th/46 and 6th/14.
