The speed of Star Wars

Hey guys, one thing that I always questioned was the book calling out that in space structured time, it takes 2 maneuvers to move between range bands with of course a few exceptions. One that is called out is:

Speed 2-4: It costs 1 maneuver to move from close to short.

Does that mean that if the PC's spend a maneuver to move from close to short of a TIE Fighter squadron, does the TIE Fighter squadron need to spend 1 maneuver to move from short to close, or 2? I would understand if it's 2 as it represents the persuing ships pushing their engines to catch up with the escaping ship.

1) If the PCs are trying to escape the TIEs, the best way (usually) to represent that is by using The Chase rules (EotE 241).

2) If you're just taking maneuvers in a dogfight and the PCs are just trying to get some space, then your answer is in the CRB in the exact same place as the rule you cited (EotE 232). It takes 1 maneuver for a ship traveling at speed 2-4 to fly from short to close range.
