Jumpmaster 5000 vs YT-2400

By SPiFF4, in X-Wing

The Jumpmaster and YT-2400 fill the same role for each faction. They are each a large ship with a 2 attack PWT and the same actions, including barrel roll. Both have access to a title that increases their firepower in a 360° arc.

Here is a list of differences between the ships:

1) Pilot Skill - Jumpmaster

Jumpmaster clearly wins with a PS3 generic and PS9 Dengar.

2) Dial - Jumpmaster

Jumpmaster has 2 more green maneuvers and 2 s-loops, but no hard 3’s.

3) Title - YT-2400

The Punishing One can increase its attack to 3 for the same cost the Outrider gets HLC. Equipping mangler is a better version of the Punishing One title for 3 fewer points.

4) Upgrade Slots - Jumpmaster

a. EPT - Jumpmaster

Wild Space Fringer and Eaden do not have this upgrade.

b. Crew - YT-2400

Even though scum has been catching up, Rebels currently have a greater number of useful crew options.

c. Salvaged Astromech - Jumpmaster

This is a key difference between the ships. Unhinged grants a total of 9 green maneuvers to the ship. R4-Agromech is a fantastic choice for dice modification.

d. Illicit - Jumpmaster

There aren’t yet many good options for this slot. Inertial dampers or glitterstim could be useful.

e. Ordinance - Jumpmaster

Two torpedo slots on the Jumpmaster gives access to extra munitions plus something else.

f. Cannon - YT-2400

It is important to note that the YT-2400 can run cannon without the title.

5) Pilot Abilities - Jumpmaster

Dengar and Dash have incredibly valuable pilot abilities. Manaroo is one of the best supporting abilities in the game. Trevura and Leebo fit into a similar category for survivability. Eaden’s ability is fairly strong, but relies on other ships dealing stress.

6) Health - YT-2400

The YT-2400 has one more shield.

7) Appearance - YT-2400

At a glance, the Jumpmaster leaves the YT-2400 in the dust, but that is not entirely correct. The Outrider title is incredibly valuable and can get the YT-2400 up to 4 attack dice (with a range one hole) or a version of the Punishing One title with guaranteed crits, thanks to mangler. Super Dash is already incredibly competitive, is now even more maneuverable thanks to Kanaan, and would spiral out of control with a higher pilot skill. Finally, the YT-2400 can run a cannon upgrade without the title.

I think the cost of Dengar compared to Dash is very reasonable. Probably even Trevura compared to Leebo. The key differences that may cause the Jumpmaster to be under-costed are the EPT’s, the pilot abilities, and the salvaged astromech slot. As a result, the 27pt Manaroo and the 25pt Scout are not in the same league as the 32pt Vrill and the 30pt Fringer.

TLDR: The Jumpmaster 5000 and YT-2400 compare well for their higher skill pilots, but the lower skill pilots are far more cost-effective for the Jumpmaster.

What do you think about the comparison? How would you improve the YT-2400 and Jumpmaster 5000?

Also the Yt 2400 can get better ships to go with it. Corran, Poe, Jake, I would rather take them than the ships that go with the jumpmaster (other than more jumpmasters).

Jumpmaster wins. But you can play the Outrider Yt 2400 and it is a good ship. But you can only buy ONE Outrider, and the Contracted Scout at 25 pts is...So good...

the yt-2400 is a victim of incredibly outdated pricing where, kinda like the yt-1300, only the named pilots are worth it (and by "named pilots" I mean Dash)

(note, fringer got off far better than the poor old smuggler)

Jumpy is ffg finally getting **** right, though really it started with the K-wing

You cant have both, either the k-wing or the jumpmaster is not priced correctly. Because if you compare the two the Jumpmaster is all over the k-wing for just 2pts more.

only if you completely and utterly ignore the fact that a large base is many times harder to avoid getting run aground on obstacles with, or to avoid getting blocked

2) The jumpmaster has more greens, but only in one direction, which makes it a tad less clear cut than your comment implies. And if you go kanan crew on dash, you basically turn your whole dial green.

4b) I might disagree here. The new bounty hunter crew are amazing, and scum already had quite a few relaly good options. I'd probably call crew about even between the 2.

There is no discount for large bases since they have both advantages and disadvantages. The scout is just better and it's not even that close.

Just a quick point about outrider/mangler vs punishing one. It's a little less clear cut than "mangler is better" because punishing one gets 4 die at range 1, while at range 3 it gives the defender an extra green. All that being said I think it just highlights your point (I think) that the two ships occupy a similar space in their respective factions, but they fill that space in different ways. Overall I agree with what your assessment appears to be: named pilots are roughly equal, but the Jumpmaster wins the generic hands down. Then again, rebels have never really had strong entries in the "generic large ship" category.

And also, as to appearance, that is 100% subjective. I love how the 2400 looks, but I also love the look of the Jumpmaster. Whenever a new ship comes out, I do the same thing everyone on this forum does: daydream about Star Wars being real and actually having one of this ships to zip around the Galaxy in. The Jumpmaster and 2400 are both way up near the top of that daydream (as is ghost and gozanti, because what's a daydream if your friends can't join you?).

looks may be subjective, but holy **** the jumpmaster model is glorious

I'd call it a wash, except for the guarantied crit and reduced cost of the outrider+mangler cannon. That is why OP is giving the win to the yt-2400

Agreed Fickle!

So scary seeing 3 large turret ships on the board. Just what I need to see opposing my fragile Ties.

3 large 2-dice turrets

even Ties will laugh it off, unless you have my luck :( (range 1 with focus v a 1 hull scout, rolls two blanks. Scout returns 3 hits, Black Squad fights back with 3 blanks. Fun times  )

Can we all agree that ficklegreendice's photos over the past couple days have actually done more to sell that bespin playmat than any advertising FFG could have done?

**** I want that.

endor's also beautiful, but we havn't got any Wave 8 games on it :(

If you could only have one of the two (I already have a starfield mat and a second would be for variety/armada), which one?

Although Endor is probably more fun and thematic for armada...
