What to play against wolves?

By Fuzzywookie, in X-Wing

Advanced Scopes might see more play now, allowing higher PS aces with neat abilities and a systems slot to become really annoying wolf-blockers.

Bwings, Ewings, Shuttles, Tie Advance, Tie phantom, G1A- what would make a good wolfhound?

Sigma squadrn with Scopes, Intel agent and SPA perhaps, for twice the chance to block?

Hawks with Tactician & tlts? Double stress them then clean up with an ace or two

Sorry but house Stark is only found in Game of Thrones.

People are just going to have to stop jousting going head to head will hurt but going at their flanks is just a two attack turret.

Much like brobots uboats are going to have a predictable rhythm to their movement, they'll rarely want to use the red sloop so you force then to by flying around table edges and obstacles that make the white sloop risky.

It wants you in its forward arc so you make that as difficult as possible.

Well the first step is strictly enforcing the convoy system and using escorts equipped with sonar to track and destroy u boats, against "wolfpacks" however generally you want aerial cover to spot them forming up, radar helps here. Once spotted escort carriers and destroyers with hedgehog depth charge mortars did a number on the u boats.

Oh you mean in x wing? Well they're large base ships with arcs so good asteroid placement can make their life difficult. Arc dodging is harder than it looks, anyone who has fought bro bots knows how big that arc actually is. I wonder if b wings will come back in vogue as it might require all three to bring down a single b wing in the initial joust depending on dice.

You want a list that can just outright wipe a U-Boat so that you're only taking 2 torps in return, which can be managed.

a boosting PWT xD

no, really!

Or A-wing swarm with ATs, and you don't even care about going first or second, because you can either block or boost into R1

Boosting into range 1 should be possible with all small ships which have a 5 straight, right? Adv. Prototypes included.

Biggs Darklighter (25)

Integrated Astromech (0)
Wes Janson (29)

Dictate whom they attack, dictate what they will attack with, dictate where they go.

The problem with B-wings might be that the 2-dice turret of the Scout will actually be able to do consistent damage against them.

I was about to post a reply saying "stop trying to make wolves happen, they're u-boats", when I realised there actually IS something wolfish-looking about the JM5K's cockpit.

well, actually the best bet is to NOT try to face them.

As I found out lately, wolfpack hates asteroids with a passion.

making a hard turn away from them makes them sad wolfies!

and when their gunline\torpedoline is not a line, but a weird looking trainwreck, you face them, trying your best to block them. a blocked wolfy is a sad wolfy.

Dash and A-wing hounds made short work of the wolfpack.

ever seen an INTIMIDATING PS3 a-wing blocker?

The answer to triple U-boats is ...

... Wait for it ...

3 x Dagger Squadron Pilots with HLC and FCS.

PS 4 and every shot is a modified four dice attack, not just the first two.

The problem with this is that expecting average dice rolls on the first engagement, you're looking at three 3/4 hit attacks. If the enemy scout rolls an evade or two he's firing back and with 2-3 return torpedoes you're losing a B-Wing.

You want a list that can just outright wipe a U-Boat so that you're only taking 2 torps in return, which can be managed.

In that case swap a Dagger for R4-D6 Biggs. You lose a little damage output but Biggs can soak three torpedoes on the first pass.

A U-Boat player can save the R4 Agromech TL and do a red sloop/kturn anyways.

Unless you have Autothrusters, that 2 dice turret is actually pretty good especially with focus+Agromech post focus TL. Range 1 is quite easily to get with a turret, especially a large base one. Against a Ghost or something it's just free damage.

Assault Missiles suck, don't bother. You want Homing Missiles, they can be fired modified in one turn, and if you roll well you don't have to spend the TL. A non-stupid opponent will just spread out their ships, which is what one should be doing anyways.
