It seems that the wolves are all over the forums lately. I haven't play against them yet. They look almost too good. Is there a counter to them? I haven't found one yet. ???
What to play against wolves?
I know you mean three Jumpmasters with Deadeye, R4 and Agromechs, but I don't know if everyone else has seen that one post calling them a U-Boat Wolfpack.

From the title, I was hoping there was going to be pictures of wolves playing chess or something. Alas...
Wolves/U-Boats/Wolfpack is referencing the 3x Contracted Scout Jumpmaster, 3x Deadeye, 3x R4 Agromech, 3x Plasma/Proton Torpedoes, 3x Extra Munitions, 3x Guidance Chip build. Each CS loaded out this way with Plasmas is 33 points, so you fly 3 of them, with a point to spare that can be used to make one Plasma into a Proton Torpedo. There is a little wiggle room in the build to put in some 1 point crew, Overclocked Agromechs, Feedback Array, etc. so it doesn't have to be that exact build.
Gamma Squadron, Homing Missiles, Extra Munitions, Guidance Chips/Long Range Scanners x4. 100 points
35 point Soontir Fel, Black Squadron + Crackshot, 2x Gamma Squadron, HM, EM, GC/LRS. 100 points
2x Guardian Squadron & Miranda Doni, 3x HM, 3x EM, 3x GC/Long Range Scanners. 100 points
3x Black Eight Squadron, 3x Cluster Missiles, 3x Flechette Torpedoes, 3x FCS, 3x Extra Munitions, 3x Guidance Chips. 99 points. Sure you could also play around with it and get Redline in there.
8 Tie Fighters or Z-95's
Red Squadron, R7 Astromech, Integrated Astromech x4. 100 points. Room for Tarn or Biggs if you wanted to play around with it.
Quad Guardian Squadron?
Any list with Biggs + R4-D6 + Integrated Astromech in it.
Quad Shuttle? Only 2 PS but you still have 4 Lambdas. 4x Omicron Group Pilot, 4x Engine Upgrade? haha
Edited by ParaGoomba Slayerwolf pack sounds right to me. Kinda like brobots.
play this
You want to get wolves? Here's how you get them. He pulls a uboat, you pull a defender. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue! That's the starwars way, and that's how you get wolves! Now, do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I'm making you a deal. Do you want this deal?
They're PS3 ships that need an action and have to get you in arc at Range 2-3. So you control their actions, you control your positioning, and you control the range. People have been complaining since Wave 3, however inaccurately, that maneuvering no longer matters. It matters now, so get to outmaneuvering them.
Alternately, they can put out a maximum of 12 hits and crits per round. Build a list that can sponge up that damage (preferably across multiple ships) and they're left with at best 3 ships with 2 Attack. That's pretty woeful offense, so as long as your trade for their torpedoes wasn't egregiously bad, mopping up will be fairly straightforward.
As a final alternative, beat their alpha strike. It takes 4 shots at 4 dice to do it reliably, and you can probably do it with 3 shots if you can find a way to double up on attack buffs. There are lots of lists that can manage that, so find one or build one. Kill a JumpMaster before it fires, tank or arc-dodge the two remaining torpedoes, and then burn down another one. It's not easy, but it can certainly be done.
Edited by Vorpal SwordI have been thinking Kagi with the Reinforce Deflectors might work. It would force all those R4 target locks onto him. They at least would not get the rerolls from the TL on another ship. The deflectors basically guarantee living through the first round of torps.

Just so you don't go away disappointed...

That's a good imperial counter

R4 Agromech only allows the freebie TL on the defender of the attack, like FCS and Thread Tracers. So unless Captain Kagi is the defender, or you have both FCS/Tracers/Agromech and Weapons Engineer, Kagi isn't getting target locked if you have those upgrades.

Typical Scum... bring torpedoes to a blaster fight.
Thank you Hobo, this made me laugh.

Dammit. I could have sworn this was one that Kagi would finally work on. Every Wave he ends up disappointing me again. He really needs an errata like "Enemy ships at range 1-3 may not acquire Target Locks on ships other than you".

The answer to triple U-boats is ...
... Wait for it ...
3 x Dagger Squadron Pilots with HLC and FCS.
PS 4 and every shot is a modified four dice attack, not just the first two.
Carnor Jax with Auto-thrusters. Get him into range 1 and rip em' up from out of arc.
Ordnance is pretty well fixed now that we're all afraid of an ordnance list (FINALLY), but they still require an action to fire. Get in there with low PS cannon fodder and block those large base bastards. Then they are left with a list with six total attack dice.
Advanced Scopes might see more play now, allowing higher PS aces with neat abilities and a systems slot to become really annoying wolf-blockers.

You need to type this with a Scottish accent.

The problem with this is that expecting average dice rolls on the first engagement, you're looking at three 3/4 hit attacks. If the enemy scout rolls an evade or two he's firing back and with 2-3 return torpedoes you're losing a B-Wing.
You want a list that can just outright wipe a U-Boat so that you're only taking 2 torps in return, which can be managed.
Counter with air wolf... ::cue 80s/90s bad tv theme song::
In short we're starting to see a lot of hard counters but not lists that are good against everything. Das Boot comes close is all.
Some things I've been kicking about.
Pilots that might see some use:
Dark Curse -seems like a decent add again. He prevents the Deadeye shot, right? Or not? There is too much to remember anymore. Either way, it shuts down any TL modification.
Carnor - for obvious reasons
Sideslip/Zeta Ace - that 2 template BR would probably help with the big arcs
Wes Jansen - Strip the focus
Echo - more dodgy and I think PS is going to lower due to scouts
Lockdown/Onega Keader - No dice modification makes those torps terrible again.
IG88 - 3 dice/AT/8 health
Palob - again, steal that focus
Guri/Xizor - sensor jammer and their pilot abilities seem strong
Lightly upgraded Slaver - metric ton of health, low points, big blocker
I haven't seen this list being played yet, but assuming the 3 ships are flown together, wouldn't assault missiles be a good counter?
Hit one ship hard with a few of them to cripple or destroy it, plus get several shields knocked off the other two from the splash damage.
Grrrrrrrrrr!
