By Shraken, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm a bit of a noob, only played in stores twice and the first time I got horrendously mauled BUT I did learn.

I played Brobots A/B and what seems to be a the standard Palp/Vader/Soontir.

Doesn't matter what my first list was, it was terrible.

What I learned is that I had a really hard time knocking through the Brobots regening shield.

After seeing what palp could do I loaded up my trusty X-Wing builder app and started fiddling.

I've had (for me anyway) some pretty good success, none of my losses have been horrendous like befor.

Here she is, I have noticed that big turreted ships give me issues and I'm not sure how to combat that. I got lucky the first time by Colzet flipping a blinded pilot for 30 minutes while the survivors went to town on a loaded YT1300.

So far I've played it as Wampa always runs evade and hangs back as much as possible, the shuttle will try and drive by with a few passes. Put the baffles on to halt between obstacles for another turn of shooting but I don't know if this is really a good idea. The thing takes damage easily as it is.
Colzet targets whomever Wampa is firing at, and as Wampa fires before him I will always flip that TL up.
I typically always run evade on all 3 of the small ships (is that a good idea?)
Marek will also try and focus on the same person if not, the lowest agi ship.
I'll typically go after the lowest hull ships first for Wampa and Colzet, hoping to get those lovely direct hits.
What should I change?
I have all of the Empire ships so I have access to everything from there + misthunter/Starviper.
Thanks in advance.

I ran the core of this list (Palpshuttle, Colzet, Wampa) and came out on top in ten or so practice games - unfortunately never got the chance to take it to a real tournament.

My personal recommendation is a late-game closer; Maarek is... outmaneuvered by other ships. Omega Leader + Juke + Comms Relay is great, because he's the 'lowest priority' target, yet if he's your last ship and it's 1 on 1 OL's almost unbeatable. Accuracy Corrector is better than FCS (a mistake I made myself!) on Colzet, because he almost never wants to TL what he shoots at (and is often danced around by Aces), and AC means he doesn't need his TL to deal consistent damage. TIE Mk. II isn't that good, there are better options.

If you're watching competitive play then you're gonna wanna watch out for ordnance lists, particularly those which launch at PS3 or PS4. Going up to Captain Yorr gets you PS4 so you can fire before (or at least simul) with those lists. Sensor Jammer really hurts those lists as well, and because the Palpshuttle is an obvious first target it can add a lot to its survivability if they don't aim at Wampa.

That does leave 1 point for TIE Mk. II on Colzet, which does seem like an OK idea. Sensor Jammer on Colzet would turn him into a defensive machine if ordnance does become huge in your local play group.

It's a very fun list to play, because they have a clear target priority (Wampa-Colzet-OL-shuttle) and knowing that gives you an edge.

I won't lie, though, I kinda dropped this list because while it's brutal against Brobots and traditional Palpaces it doesn't seem that strong against ordnance. Most squads run several identical ships and using Colzet to turn Wampa crits over rarely hurts the list enough to give a decisive edge. I never ran it against triple U-Boats though.

I'm not sure I can scavenge points from anywhere to beef up the shuttle. I like keeping Wampa because he gets so much fire going his way out of fear. He really doesn't do all that much damage but he has potential with Colzet flipping. Like I said that alone saved me in one match. I could drop a TIE MK2 from Colzet, with FCS he doesn't care about stress or actions all that much. Marek has to keep it because of PTL.

Maybe drop Colzet for TAP/Valen Rudor?, be tight though. Then I think it would be a choice of Juke or autothrusters.

My opinion as an Empire only player myself is that your list would benefit from droping maarek. If you did, the ideal replacement (since you could afford his preferred build) would be the Inquisitor. Maarek was 32 points and the inquisitor rocks out with:

The Inquisitor 25 (31)

-Push the limit 3

-Tie/V1 1

-Autothrusters 2

If you then drop the tie mk 2 from colzet you can take your leftover 2 points and give that lambda an ion projector. Then if you block a problem ace you can use palp to force the ion effect. Then since you have baffle just full stop till you feel like dealing with the problem. Just my opinion of course.

Oh, I was saying drop Maarek for Omega Leader. OL handles aces and with the targeting priority your list enforces is highly unlikely to be shot at first.

If me and my opponents ships are PS6 let's say, and he has initiative; if he shoots first and destroys my ship do I have the chance to fire back first? That would be...odd but also kind of make sense

Edit: Oh man, looking at the rules reference that is the case and really does make sense. I've not been affected by it to date but know a friend who lost at a Store Championship and probably wouldn't have if him and his opponent had known this.

I really need to read the rules more thoroughly...

I think Inquisitor would be a good replacement, Don't have hounds tooth yet so maybe I'll bump that up on my buy priority.

The reason I do like Marek over Inq is he has more reliable damage, and when he is down to hull he can be quite unpleasant.

He also gets targeted next after Wampa in most situations.

I'll try it though, maybe even run both my TAPs in there instead.

I do like OL too though.

I'd second the "run OL instead of Marek" option.

I ran a Palp shuttle, Wampa, OL, ZL list to good effect for quite some time. It bumps OL up the priority list a bit, but the first time Zeta Leader comes in and drops 4 dice pred/focus and puts the hurt on someone, they seem to get thrown off and that's a huge advantage for you.
