Heavy on the wash?

By Baak, in X-Wing

So I was looking at some reviews online and I noticed the Jumpmaster the reviewers had were a bit cleaner than mine. So I compared them and noticed mine was a bit heavy on the wash. Im curious, does anyobody else has this? Or did you get a cleaner look on your model?

Im not sure wether Im liking it or not... I have to see it in play on the table to fully judge it... it definetly looks like it has seen a lot of flying hours and battle tough :)

I actually prefer yours over the 'off white/yellow' model from the screen cap you posted, but that could be poor white balance on the part of whoever shot the video.

Interesting that the scorch pattern on the prow is identical in both. They must apply that with a stencil and airbrush, then wash after.

I've had massive differences in the wash on many of my models. The most glaring differences are on my Advanced, where of the four, no two are even close to similar results. One in particular looks like it was dunked in the bottle, given a quick wipe, and left off, where another looks like it's been barely touched at all.

It's more noticeable on the large ships, I think, and even the medium size like K-wings and G1-A.

I think the general thought is that all the paint is applied via some sort of mechanical stamping process rather than by hand. The washes are by hand though, and the assembly, and the JM5k certainly does have some very variable washes.

If you look a the patterns of those marks, they look the same, I think the color is just the lighting.

Yours looks better so I'd call it a win.

No, there definitely are some Jumpmasters with much heavier wash/drybrush treatment than others.

I picked the dirtiest Jumpmaster I found at my store. I really like that look, especially for a Scum ship.

Mine was just like yours, saves me washing the front bit tbh. There is definitely different paint levels out there.

Love yours more than the plain one...

Mine is also like yours. I love it.

Cool, good to know! :)

Maybe some of them were left in the sun too long at the warehouse.

This.

Mine is very similar. The wash looks particularly heavy next to Ghost (which is rather clean).

Personally, I like it - kind of scummified.
