no way to raise the Ghost

By XBear, in X-Wing

I am not happy with the way FFG settled on the Ghost pegs. you can't change the height and the support is quite flimsy. i have to keep playing with the ghost off.

If you play with 2 ghosts and they are anywhere near each other at least one has to be taken off.

has anyone come up with any way to change its height? I thought about adding length to the 3 supports but they are too flimsy and become super wobbly with any increase in length.

I thought about adding a section between the base and the pegs, but it'd have to be exactly right to fit into the grooves. any ideas?

this expansion pack is more expensive than many others and the quality of the pegs should have been better, not worse, than other ships.

I haven't tried this yet, but mock up the same design but with an epic peg?

The two extra bits should have had slots to be put in for sure.

When I first saw the pictures of the Ghost on the stand I figured this is what they did. Makes more sense then only one plug and resting on the others.

Same. Plans are to magnetize the ends or maybe pen it.

on a standard base, or epic it is tto back end heavy and will tip.. I like their set up and mine works fine.. magnets may be the best bet..

any ideas?

as usually, the best idea is to go to this guy

And MAGNET IT!

You could put it on a standard epic peg and glue a heavy washer(s) or other piece of metal on the bottom of the front part of the base as a counterbalance. (Personally, I don't find it to be too unstable to use on an epic peg even without counterweight as long as you are reasonably mindful.)

Edit: Has anyone talen the Ghost apart yet? Maybe one could put some lead fishing weights in the front of the model to rebalance it over the peg.

Can you saw/cut a piece out of the stand, use bracing and glue to give it some strength to adjust the height?

This is what I will be attempting. If you see me in the buy/sell/trade thread looking for a ghost peg then it has all failed.

Alternatively, you could email FFG about purchasing another peg for the ghost. Then you'll have the peg for the mod ... and a backup if it goes horribly wrong.

Clear plastic is usually very brittle. Don't force your saw blade through the stand or you'll be needing a spare base.

I dont understand why they didnt go for one receiving slot in the front and one in the back with a Y shaped peg.

Surely it's easier to just lower any of the ships that might bump it? I got my new stuff today and you can fit most large ships under most of the Ghost even when they are on 2 pegs.

Put in peg to test stand. Attempted to remove peg without applying any overt pressure, snapped clean off inside the Ghost.

v.v I've never snapped a peg like this, I was shocked. Not really sure how to get the broken off piece out, either, at this point. Might just glue the **** peg onto the model and keep it on display/in my tournament case, if it ever needs to come with me to an event.

Works unless the other ship is a ghost.

If I had a Ghost I'd probably get a Corsec Engineering Omni Stand.

Too much wobble left & right? Or too obvious. They try and make the attachment points as unobtrusive as possible.

CorSec bases don't have the guide lugs according to the picture. You'd have to fill the Ghost's base wit filled epoxie, drill and mount the base adater. Not a tough job to do.

If the other two supports on the peg had receivers on the ship, you would run into another problem: every single ship and peg would have to be PERFECT coming off the line. There would be very little room for any variance, and let's be honest, how many duplicate ships do you have that are absolutely identical? I might have 2 z-95s (out of 6) that are legitimately exactly the same in every observable respect. My ghost, for example, barely wobbles on the stand unless I give it a more than casual tap or bump, and while it isn't perfect, it feels sturdy enough even while moving the ship. Meanwhile, others have reported huge issues with keeping the ship balanced. I think FFG came up with an elegant solution that works in most situations. Also, unless it's ghost v ghost, I think every other ship fits perfectly fine by removing a peg. Nothing we haven't dealt with before courtesy of the K-Wing.

Corsec sells bases with nubs too.

Does a large ship peg not simply plug into the portion of the ghost stand with the "tear drop male end"?

I missed these, thanks. Was just looking at the rods and mounting nuts.

Nonsense you just need a few hundred candles at least three different coloured chalk's and access to a dank underground room.
