I have a new love affair with Dengar, I find him an amazingly powerful ship, but I'm not sure what to run him with, as he comes in at a really high price-point. I tried a TLT ywing and a Z-95 with concussion missiles when I ran him with gunner, but I realized today that gunner doesn't work terribly well with his ability since it prevents further attacks. I opted to go with K4 instead to cheapen him up a bit. So now he's a bit cheaper, and I feel like a Firespray buddy might do well, but I'm kinda torn between Boba or Kath, or one of a few other builds I've devised
Dengar- Unhinged Astromech, Title, Push the Limit, Engine Upgrade K4 Security Droid-56
Kath Scarlett-Veteran Instincts, 4-LOM, Engine Upgrade-44
OR
Boba Fett-Lone Wolf, Recon Spec-44
I was also thinking about the new G1-A with Zuckuss, he seems like he could do some REAL damage
Zuckuss-VI, FCS, Title+tractor beam, gunner, Hull Upgrade-42, and I add glitterstim to one of the ships or possibly inertial dampeners to both, possibly engine upgrade on him instead of hull upgrade. I just feel like he's kinda squishy.
With him I get a pretty nice initiative bid, and he can dish out some major damage, he also makes my opponent more careful with movement with his small ships because of tractor beam.
I also was thinking of a plain Kihraxz and a TLT tactician HWK, or a Kihraxz and 2 binyare pirates.
I have a tourny coming up and need to settle on a build. Any tips would be appreciated. How are you guys running your Dengar?
Dengar and Firespray
My friend trimmed him down to 52 points and squeezed two tlt y wings in with him
He didn't fly him that well, but still did alright. I think 52 dengar is probably too lean though, dengar really starts to get good at around 55.
For his escorts I'd think a tlt y wing and then nduru with missiles of your choice, chips and v.i. Is probably the best value.
Ya I like N'dru, I came up with what I think is a decent alpha strike list, with a shield regen late-game Dengar...
Dengar-Unhinged Astromech, Title, Gonk, engine upgrade, Push the Limit, Inertial Dampeners-56
Binayre Pirate-Concussion missiles, glitterstim, guidance chips-18
N'dru Suhlak-Lone Wolf, Glitterstims, Cluster missiles, guidance chips-25
Those 2 Zs are dead killy. I feel like I'd probably run N'dru up one flank and run the other Z and Dengar on the right flank, so Dengar can turn left as he likes. They'd edge up slower and Dengar would put some shields on Gonk.
I like the idea of Dengar and IG88B better than Dengar and a Firespray. I feel Dengar and IG88B cover each other weaknesses better than the other combo. IG88B has autothrusters and "gunner" while Dengar is PS9 and can regenerate with Gonk, so he can give you a favorable endgame in many instances.
My least expensive IG88B clocks in at 48 points (Predator, Advanced Sensors, Mangler, Autothrusters), so that leaves you 52 points for Dengar.
I personally would also pick 2x TLT thugs over a Firespray, I´m just not too fond of that ship since it´s clumsy without a 360 turret and it really hurts without autothrusters.
The problem is that running a Dengar with Punishing one is REALLY expensive, so you kinda have to make it worth taking it on him. My current Gonk Dengar is 55 points. I cant fit 2 TLT thugs in there which is what I'd like to do, so I have to work around that and I feel that the Z-95 alpha strike might be good. Becuase if I can severely weaken a big ship, or just kill a smaller ship outright, Dengar can just run around arc dodging and plinking at things, and running away to regen shields when he needs to.
With Super Dengar (the 56-pt version)
Boba Fett (39)
- Adaptability - Increase (0)
- Intelligence Agent (1)
- Engine Upgrade (4)
=44 pts
100 pt won't get you any initiative bids, but gets you 2 PS9 hunters. 'Spray shouldn't fly without EU, specially Boba. Get in their faces, let Intel Agent guide you and pummel away. You can switch to Kath and upgrade Adaptability to Veteran Instincts, if you prefer her pilot ability.
If you decide to drop PtL for VI on Dengar (a perfectly acceptable choice), Boba can upgrade to VI and Tactician. Formidable hunters, no need for initiative race, except against Vader.
