Reinforced deflector and direct hit.

By gibbro, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm down to hull and the attacker rolls a hit and crit, then I blank out. I take a face down card and my face up is direct hit. I'm still alive. Does my reinforced deflector give me a shield back? Also, same question but with a major/minor hull breech that results in a 3rd card being dealt?

Yes. You suffered 3 damage as a result of the attack, you get a shield. You don't have to be dealt 3 damage by the attack, you have to suffer 3 damage.

I'd disagree.

"Suffer damage" is a technical term that happens when you get uncancelled booms or kabooms, and results in being dealt damage cards or losing shield tokens.

Direct Hit neither creates another boom result nor causes another damage card to be dealt, so I'd argue that it doesn't count as suffering two damage.

I'd disagree.

I don't have the rules in front of me to check, but my intuition is running along these same lines.

I had, and checked and:

-direct hit does not count as 2booms, just one. It counts as 2 cards for determining if a ship is destroyed ONLY.

-various explosions counts as suffering damage but this damage is not from attack. Rules are pretty clear, suffering dmg from attack deals you critical cards and then they resolve (resolving crits is not part of attack)

So all in all to trigger the deflectors you really need those 3 cards/shields dealt.
