So, where are you going on holiday this year?

By Dagonet, in X-Wing Off-Topic

After a very light year where I had to spend most of my days off on stuff around the house and we only got in short trips to London and Barcelona this year is looking up.

First we've rented a large house for a week with friends and family for extensive board gaming. A few months later we've a week booked in Cornwall and mid-september we'll be going to Mallorca for some sun and heat and doing frag all before the winter sets in.

Oh, and Spiel in Essen after that of course, like last year.

And you guys? Anything fun and exciting planned?

Just got back from a 5 day Caribbean cruise. It was nice going from freezing temperatures to the 80s F (upper 20s C). Took the boys swimming with Sharks and Rays around the reefs of Belize, and then swam with the Dolphins in Cazumel. Highly recommend it, it's more affordable than it would seem at first glance.

It sounds nice, but I'm always afraid I will get bored on a cruise, my wife and I are not for the big group things.

Swimming with dolphins is amazing, we did it on our honeymoon to Mauritius. I'll never forget looking down and seeing dozens of dolphins with their young below me while around me they were jumping. And those dolphins swim fast! :o.

The Caribbean is not very high on our list of places to go. I think next year we'll go to Capri (with at least one trip to Pompey) and maybe Norway, rent a camper, drive along a few fjords.

NoVA Open.

My wife and I live in Seattle, her family lives in Kentucky, so we're all meeting "in the middle" at Rapid City South Dakota to celebrate her dad's 70th birthday. We're all staying in a large cabin together for the week. And I'll be bringing some XWing ships with to play a few games with my brother-in-law.

3 weeks derping around Sweden, not much planning made. Jokkmokk is on the list of places I want to revisit, so that might be a goal.

Just got back from Sweden myself. Nice place, very hearty food and generous portions ;) Oh and watch out for all the soundless Teslas whoooooofig around you won't hear them coming :D

Pacific side Costa Rica is amazing. Lots to do. Great surf and beaches. Friendly people.

Im off to Iceland for a week in June. Probably Finland to see friends later in the year too.

Next year plan to go back to stay with the family in Canada for a bit.

We're taking our kids including our new son-in-law down to the Wisconsin Dells for 3 days, and I'm taking the rest of the week off.

We're going to a indoor water park and playland type thing, water slides, go-carts, mini-golf, ect... We do it every other year or so and it's a great way to deal with cabin/spring fever. Get a nice suite with a kitchen to save on cost a bit and can just let the kids run and do as they wish to a point.

We used to go to the Dells a lot when I was growing up in Chicago. That was in the late 80s/early 90s. Was a fun place then, sounds like it's changed/grown a lot though.

Secret Solstice Festival by any chance?

We used to go down there when I was a kid in the mid 80's too. Back then it was some outdoor stuff, a few water parks and a Lot of tourist traps.

Most of that is still there, but they have a dozen or so resorts now with indoor stuff and it's still fairly busy even in the winter.

This is the first year we aren't saving vacation for new-baby leave. Thinking of spending a week in Jacksonville with various family members. I used to visit Jax beach every summer growing up and it would be awesome to take my kids there now.

Next year is my daughter's last year before going off to college. We are saving up for a big trip. Not sure exactly what. We've never been to the Grand Canyon and thought about that. My youngest hasn't been to Europe and we have thought about going to Italy, Austria, and Germany. It's still up in the air.

This year, though? We are headed to Charleston for the weekend. I've never been and it should be a nice trip.

Being a contractor sucks. No paid vacation days. No paid days off.

Any plans on how long you'd like to go and what you'd like to do? Three countries might be overdoing it a little. I'd suggest sticking to Italy, there's plenty to see and do to fill two lifetimes. :P.

Oh, I agree with this. I tend to like to stay in one area for a while. We aren't sure on timframe, but are fully aware that the price of flying over is the greatest expense. I think my daughter has her heart set on a day in Austria to see a few sites. She's got OCD and is pretty....willful. So, I can see just a day for Austria. She's been to Italy and will push to see other places she's not been. My son wants to see Venice and is pretty fascinated with the place. I can see probably 5 days in Italy, a day in Austria, and maybe 2-4 days in Germany. Not sure.

We might end up going to the Grand Canyon instead, though. I've never been and it would be a fun trip. It might all hing on my ankle and how much I've recovered from my last surgery. Can I do hikes, etc.

This September I'm taking my wife and daughter to Disneyland, my daughter is 3 so it should be fun!

I just got back from a weekend in Charleston. Had a good first evening there, but my daughter was attacked by bed bugs overnight. 2am shifting of rooms and scramble with the hotel. They made our hotel free for the weekend, bought us new luggage, cleaned all our clothes, and replaced anything that was damaged. The hotel was bending over backwards to help us and I was fine with that. The free hotel allowed us to get more spending cash.

The next bit was the weather. It rained quite a bit on the weekend and our last day was just pouring all day. So, a bit of a downer on that aspect. We couldn't do all that we wanted to.

Still, we got a carriage tour of the city and it was a lot of fun. The food was GREAT. I had the best fried chicken on waffles I'd ever had in my life. Never imagined it was so good.

Well I'm going to Hell, I got family there.

After graduation and the bar exam, it's time for Maui.

This year probably Eastern Europe

This year probably Eastern Europe

Where? I've been to Latvia, Czech Rep., and Hungary. Wish I could hit more. Croatia looks cool, too. I'd love to go sailing there.

Flew out to the Canaries in February. Planning on traveling to Catalonia in a month or so.

Then heading off to Yavin in June.
