Sorry for the noob question. Just got my first core set the other day.

Regarding the 6 title cards...
If 3 players it says to remove 2... What is the purpose of this? Each player can only chose one card anyway, so why the need to remove any at all?

Each title can play off of the others by supporting or opposing them. If you just use all of them in a 3 player game, the second player could always know what the first player chose and choose the hard counter to it. Knowing that, the third player could logically determine the first two choices and choose to counter where they needed to. You would also find the titles chosen would almost always be similar. By secretly removing 2 first, the first player has fewer options and needs to guess what any opponents will choose to best fit it. The second player now has 3 choices and doesn't know what the first player has chosen so it's more of a mind game choice and the same for the third player.

Tl:dr It forces all the titles to be used throughout a game and adds more strategy and mind game.
