All of the wave 8 ships came with little black tokens with that ship's silhouette in white on them. Anybody know why? I've not noticed such things in any other product.

Yeah. The dial holder announcement said the pack would come with silhouette tokens x3 for each existing ship through Wave 7. Not sure if they include T-70 and TIE/fo silhouettes...

I didn't see them in my T-70 and TIE/fo .. having said that, I have no interest in the dial holders so I wouldn't have looked very hard.
