About Dash the Pilot, some help please

By delenmast, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So what exactly does Dash's pilot ability let him do? I know that he can Barrel Roll or Boost over asteroids. But can he land on them and still attack?

I got into this game after Dash had been around awhile so I am a little unclear on his ability.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading

You may ignore obstacles during the Activation phase and when performing actions.

So as far as Dash is concerned it's open space when activating. During the rest of the turn (Planning, Combat, and End phases) he only ignores them when performing actions, so if he receives a free action in the Combat phase (e.g. from Cracken), he could still Boost or Barrel Roll willy-nilly.

Essentially, the only time obstacles come in to play with Dash are when he's on an Asteroid (still can't shoot), or they're obstructing attacks.

When you overlap an Asteroid with your ship's base or maneuver template, you Roll for damage and lose your action for the round.

When you overlap a Debris Field with your ship's base or maneuver template, you Roll for (less) damage, and receive a stress token.

If, in combat, your base is still overlapping the Asteroid, you cannot fire.

If the first set would occur during the Activation phase, Dash gets to say "Nope" to them.

The in-combat check still happens in-combat, so he doesn't get to ignore that one. That's what Crew Dash is for :)

Also note: Debris fields do not have any effects outside of activation phase. Use them.

Thanks for all the quick and helpful replies.

Yep, what DP said. If you are flying Dash, bring debris, land on them as you need and dont worry about having to get off.

Goddamn i just realised in our group, everyone (myself included) were cheating by blasting those HLCs from asteroids...holy cow...

Yep, super cheating I'm afraid.

This is why Superdash players often bring the Debris clouds - but for my money, they're far better off with all the big asteroids, because they can avoid them much easier than everyone else can, and big asteroids are a good way to screw with people.

You do realise that no one is going to believe you if you've all been playing him wrong, don't you? :D

You're going to have to point to the pilot card and tell them he only ignores obstacles during the Activation phase. There's no mention of the Combat phase, so the normal rules apply to him there.

I think too many people read the pilot ability and then look at the crew card for Dash and somehow confuse or merge the two.
