What Figure (or figure group) Have You been Impressed with?

By darkjawa103, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So I finally played the SC2-M Repulsor Tank last night and was really impressed by it. I killed a Trandoshan Hunter on 1 turn, then next round used it's Focus Fire ability to take out IG-88. It's defensible ability is pretty good too.

So what figure or figures have surprised you the 1st time you played them?

Most of the high cost units I expected to be really powerful, but two units that really surprised me about how good they were the Echo Base Troopers and Leia.

Leia and i like boba fett he didnt let me down in the skirmishes i used him :)

I haven't even had a chance to play anything from twin shadows yet, let alone hoth. I am incredibly lonely with my IA interest in the city here :(

I feel your pain. There's a fairly strong X-Wing & Armada community around here. IA sees some love, but my work schedule doesn't allow me any sort of social interaction with normal people.

HK's are surprisingly good sniper units, I once killed a wookie warrior from 6+ spaces away.

HK droids.

was impressed because i didnt expect them to be that good when they were announced

R2 and 3P0. Cheap and really useful! I've been including 3P0 and Gideon in some Rebel lists, to keep the Sabs focused.

Elite probe droids can do some serious damage, which surprised. Did like 7 damage on Leia in one shot, taking out second round. It died right after that but still, it did what it needed to. Wish it was faster though.

Royal Guards(Elite or Regular)(Good on all fronts), and Royal Guard Champion(use him to smash through enemies).

There are maybe 5 armada players, including myself in the city. I know our X-wing scene is pretty well off, but no one wants to venture into anything else :( Thus my armada and IA are all logging dust on the shelf. That IA app for running an Imperial AI needs to happen.

I can force a few buddies to get together to try some campaign, but they only do so, quite literally, to shut me up about it. none of them seem to genuinely enjoy the game. ugh. I hate living in the small city that thinks itself a big city, but lacks almost everything a big city has to offer..

I've been loving Leia and MHD-19. Went 3-0 using a squad with them today at my local Store Championship, and they're both just awesome, especially when used in conjunction with Luke.

Hired Guns

These canon fodder dudes just seem to pull their weight every single game I use them. At first I thought it was quite a big bummer not to have the X, and it is, but the free parting shot is fabulous. They are such a control piece. Sometimes they do more for me, than my heavy hitters seem to do. Or maybe I just always expect less of them, than they deliver :)

MHD has finally made rebels click for me. Feels a lot like snowtroopers for trooper lists and miracle worker is like reinforcements.

HKs are amazing. Regularly one shoting grunt troopers and even characters usually go down with 2 shots. Just tonight took out Fenn before he was able to shoot even once.

Dengar. One harmful condition is a nuisance, all three together, every turn, on your best unit is ridiculous.

Yeah. Been trying Dengar a bit as well, and he was suprisingly good albeit with a little Focus support. I can't wait to make a list with Bossk and Dengar as the central pieces. One, a character killer, the other a crowd controller. But both are decently flexible.

Royal Guard Champion is just a flat out beast. He has the best of everything. Fast, tough, high health, good dice for the attack, great surge abilities and can usually attack twice (brutality). He's fairly expensive but priced well and can also be good points denial.

He's either not dying while ripping apart a whole enemy list, or he goes down to 1-2 turns of focus fire while the rest of my list cleans everything else up.

The flexibility of being able to move 12 to contest objectives, or move 8 with an officer and attack (or 10 with urgency) is amazing. The threat level he poses is through the roof, and few people know how to deal with him (which is easier said than done). An X-man roll or two can also wreck your opponents day because they need to spend so much effort killing him.
He's probably going to come down a peg or two since he's not great against banthas, but I'd have to test that out a bit more.

Too bad his command card is pretty crappy. Difficult to use properly and if you're in a position to use it, you rarely need it because things are already going well.

i second this motion. he's also my favorite sculpt.

the only drawback he really has is his lack of reach, which can be problematic at times if your opponent knows how to kite him well enough. which almost seems odd considering he really is a royal guard and they have reach. I guess being elite means you have to be more skilled with a shorter weapon.

that said, reach might make him broken. maybe not, but he'd definitely see a lot more play!

having both a black and a white for defense is extremely strong and his executor ability can wreck face if he's placed well. I feel this piece is a monster when used in the hands of a strong player and use him like you'd use a queen in chess. wait for the right moment to strike and be super aggressive with it and have units to back him up

i've found that putting him into the fray a little too early can have him focused down fairly quick, even with his good defense dice

Been running a single set of Elite Tuskens in my Merc list and have to say I'm pretty happy with them. Their surges suck but the red/green with added damage can hit white dice like a truck.

Plus hp wise they are effecient at 7 points for 14 hp. The four movement isn't great obviously but if you happen to be out of reach of your target guess what? No worries you can just cycler them from a couple spaces away. Nothing amazing to write home about but just an all around effecient set of front line units for Mercs.

Would definitely recommend them over the regular versions. 2 more points gets you an extra 6 hp and the free damage on attacks.

Yeah I find the same. The elite tuskens are great. They aren't too squishy and that automatic +1 is great insurance against bad dice rolls

Yep that's exactly right. He's a chess queen. Very strong, not invincible and can be the turning point if used well. Even sacrificing him at the right time is almost always worth it.

He doesn't have reach because that would make Brutality too strong. Right now, a good player can still minimise his damage by spreading out... you have to be 3 squares away to not get hit....It's already pretty hard to do that sometimes. If he had reach you'd have to be 5 squares away.

His movement 6 is more than enough to make up for lack of reach and with a first turn officers or Urgency he's a cruise missile. The look on the opponents face when you throw him 10 spaces forward on the first turn and punish anyone who over extended is priceless.... Element of surprise just rubs salt in the wound.

Fair point. How about "doesn't allow social action with typically diurnal humans?"

I've been thoroughly impressed with the Trandoshan Hunters in Campaign. Those guys are just beasts, especially the elite versions with Military Might: Assault Armor. They just dish out damage and take a beating...

Bosk looks great. Lieutenant and Lando look RIDICULOUS!!!
