Help design FFG's new app

By Conandoodle, in X-Wing

Not sure if FFG has plans to release any X-Wing related apps (I think they have a dice rolling one) but I thought it could be fun if we made a wishlist for features that we'd find useful.

For the sake of this session, let's assume that the app had a cost associated to it.

What features would you like to see and how much would you pay?

1. List builder

In a perfect world, I'd love to see FFG incorporate the best features of list builders we have, and give the developers a percentage of app sales.

2. Dice

Dice rolling and modification functionality

3. Dials

With the shimozzle of the alleged dial manipulation recently it would be cool if the app included dials for the ships in your list (maybe a code can be provided in the ship you purchase which unlocks it in the app / DLC .. something.) Both players could link to each other via Bluetooth, Wifi, etc. Players can set dials in the app and then when both players have hit 'SET' the app locks the dials and progresses to the movement phase. Players could view dials and not be able to manipulate them.

4. Camera

To upload photos to player's accounts with FFG which may then be used on these forums, FFG website, etc.

Co-op missions or a campaign of some kind.

List building is the biggie, particularly if it could be allowed in place of physical cards in tournaments.

Global ELO tracking of IRL games.

Statistical collection of lists, damage, etc. for meta-analysis.

ELO is a skill rating system commonly used in board gaming circles. It originated in chess IIRC.

We have X-wing Squads Designer; who needs anything else?

Basically it means introducing a world ranking list. And I have to agree adding elo to the app sounds like a good idea, until you realize that there is no control instance. If you want to at least someone limit the cheating might hand out an elo-ranking up to store owners. IIRC there is currently a managing app for TOs out in beta already. You can add elo-rankings there.

List builder.

Links to tournaments for submission of list.

Allows viewing of past tournament results.

an actual chromecastable game, trade in your cards for a code that can be added for additional ships and upgrades. Play against your friends at work...because the addiction is NOT ENOUGH!!!!

I guess you'd also ask how much $$$ people would be prepared to pay for the app.

That might determine some of its features.

As the movement templates graph is provided with ships you buy, it would be nice if there was a way to unlock these in the app with purchases (which would make it hard for our existing collections), but for fairness provide an unlock code at cost for everything up the release they provide this (probably looking at a $5 in-app purchase for this if they could do it at all).

Agree on the "upload a photo", though I'm not sure where it would go. Getting new segments of the forum is nigh unto impossible. I'm not sure they would want to provide a photo wall on the website... but it would be cool, especially if you could choose the social media you wanted to post it to.

FAQ / Rules Reference: Having an easy to use, portable FAQ that you can pull up on your phone instead of sifting through it currently on your phone would be nice. Or having to carry a printed copy just so you can find things faster. As the new rules book is hard to find stuff in anyway, might as well have it electronic where we could search it, so that you can find the multiple places you are looking for a term and actually find the one that has text detailing the rules around it instead of referring to another section.

I would pay $5 easy for an app that did all of this. I would pay more for the following:

Upload list to TOME software from an in-app squad builder on par with YASB or Voidstate's.

Electronic Passport for events and results, including all ticket information for official FFG events. Allow players to enter official results at the table (and verify by the second player) and then push the result to the TO so there are no paper slips to enter. If both players are verified on their apps and both have to verify the result to submit, it should still be secure and speed up a lot of the tournament calculations. You would then get your next table assignment via the app when the TO pushes out the result. How much would I pay for this aspect? $10? $20? Pretty much anything they felt was justified. Obviously, most people would be unhappy with paying through the nose for this, but for quality software, I am happy to pay. Would many people pay more than $5 for this though? No idea.

Oh... and to make it more challenging to write, but more useful for me the player, make it a universal app so I can work on it on my MacBook, my iPad and my iPhone. Did I mention you'll need both an Apple and an Android version?
