Ive heard a few people recently say theres going to be an update to the Tournament rules to increase it to 450-500 points, one was at the local club I go to and another was on an Armada FB group I go to, anyone got any information on this

The Tournament Document until a few days ago stated clearly that Wave 2 would see 400pts, and that would be the future of Armada from that point on.

I don't discount the possibility of that changing.

But people are taking the 'brag' from the Wave 3 Announcement promising "Bigger Battles!" as to mean more points... (Rather than the More Ships as they're Cheaper Ships as a definition of 'bigger').

I don't have anything "official" but I think this is a given. They can't keep releasing new ships without increasing the points cap. People will want to play their new ships.

At the very least I would look for it to either go up, or to be done at tiers; like weight classes in wrestling or boxing.

Expense-wise? They'll just raise the points cap.

This opinion is based on speculation. If they have stated it will not go up, that's where my money is.

I think it's 400 points for the long haul.

But, who cares? Get your FLGS to order a tournament kit and host a tournament with 600-point battles.

They can't keep releasing new ships without increasing the points cap. People will want to play their new ships.

I looked at the tourney update the other day when they updated it and saw it still said 400, got a bit confused when ive seen it twice now

The point cap fighter cap and use of points at all, is up to you and the person your playing or the GM running a big multi player game. FFG really has no say in it. Totally up to the players.

Well I heard from a man down the pub who knows a guy whos knows this plumber who does really good work for next to nothing, he said the merchant he buys his showers from knows a fella who said it was going to be 500 points.............

An increase to the point limit would be a major change with huge ramifications for future and current tournaments and game releases. The entire meta would be effectively thrown out overnight.

If there is ever a point change it will be a full announcement made with the launch of a new wave or FAQ to maximize exposure.

I played 3 400 point games in 4 hours. So it is very possible.

6 turns and a 2-2.5 hour time limit is the same regardless of point value.

Increasing points actually tends to alleviate this problem in most games. Units are destroyed much faster when more points are used to increase damage output, so what most systems find is that by doubling points or increasing by half, the efficiency of already powerful ships tends to go way up.

Possible? But I don't see it as being particularly likely. One they seem pretty set as 400 being the future and beyond, two they need to keep tournaments down to reasonable levels for all levels of players and three if you want to play with big fleets you can house rule your point totals anyway. I've seen people posting here about their 600+ point games already I'm pretty sure.

Problem with Armada is that the human consideration element goes up proportionately with the number of pieces on the board. This is why the "meaty" rounds of first contact take the bulk of the time. Sure you can add 50 or 100 points to the official tournament cap but it will add time, if you don't want to add time then it will truncate games well before round 6 for slower players or high activation lists, which will shift the meta. 3 motti ISD gunline with a line of gozanti with repair upgrade behind them sound like something fun to play against?

Perhaps instead of increasing the points, they will decrease the cost of everything instead. That way we'll all have to buy a ton more new ships just to get updated versions of all our cards. Everybody happy.

Nothing is stopping anyone from organising and running their own tournaments...at whatever point limit.

As far as time goes, I've played a couple of 600 pt. games and they go a lot faster than 400. A bloodbath on turn 3 and 4 and mop up on 5.

I either wrote it wrong or you read it wrong. I play on 4x6' boards with 3x6' mats. You would have to add turns for the extra foot or something. I doubt it would work even then. If I communicated that wrong, I apologize for the confusion. I would never dream of playing on the entire mate. The mates have 6" sides for each player for holding ship cards, upgrades, defense tokens, etc.

After 3+ years and 8 waves of X-Wing still being at 100 points... This is far from a given.

To be fair... It's not like that's written in stone or anything. FFG could increase the points to 5,000 tomorrow if they so wished.

They won't. 400 is clearly what they're balancing the game upon, but just because the book says something doesn't mean it can't change.
