I have a confession to make (B-wing woes)

By Mackaywarrior, in X-Wing

I concede. I have been trying for over ten games now and I just have not figured it out. How on Earth do you dogfight in these lumbering flying tanks? The only time I get use out of a B-wing is when I am flying with Nera Dantels and use her as a torpedo Boat. The problem is I am just getting out-maneuvered and never seem to be able to put anything in my firing arc.

Are there any guides that can help or any tips you all can share?

Welcome to bwings :P

Only thingvthat ever really worked for me was to make a ring of obstructions around the center

Bs LOVE arenas and their 2k helps them joust in it

Stress Y is mandatory. Its control slows people down for you

FCS is highly recomneded because dice are assholes

1. Slow down. Use your barrel roll to move 1/2 baselength forward when not yet in range.

B. Block. Use one or more of your ships to run up and clog traffic lanes while the other ships hang back and fire.

iii. Do NOT expect to mass K-turn 4 B-wings on the same turn. Plan at least a couple moves ahead. Maybe K-turn your lead elements while slow rolling those in the back.

edit. Advanced Sensors are B-wing training wheels. Bump all you want with focus in hand.

You also have two pilots who enjoy being stressed and IIRC, long time since ive played him, Keyan can K turn, get a stress and then spend it for benefits.

I used to have a good run with Keyan, Nera and a single grunt low PS b wing.

Either PTL or stay on target for keyan and proton torps for nera, and that was pre extra munitions

You have to be very strong in your barrel roll and predictions of other ships. Rember ptl arc dodgers are actually extremely predictable in there dial moves, use the barrel roll to block with one and kill with the rest.

I suck at using them, but have been shut down by an apponent flying then we'll with great blocking barrel rolls.

If you just focus or TL every turn you will loose, use that barrel roll. Also expect to loose ships, attrition.

Keyan with Stay on Target, Advanced Sensors, and Intelligence agent is a really really fun piece to have on the board.

That may be the problem. I don't utilize barrel roll nor do I try to deny space with them. I am too focused on getting shots off and not on the big picture.

No blocks, no shots. This ace-heavy meta is hard on B's.

Just fly 4 TLT Y-Wings instead OP, you don't have to block to get a shot on anything. You basically automatically advance to top 8.

My bro flies Bwings all the time against me. Advanced Sensors is the trick. Focus before a k-turn, or red 1 turn. Throw an intel agent on 1 of them, and then you can barrell roll and block. Fly up to an asteroid for defense, then next turn with AS barrell out and move. AS if you are gonna dogfight with them. Take your action, then move, not having to worry about bumping. If they are just support than probably FCS with a mangler or HLC cause range 1 is gonna be hard to get in, so might as well take the range 3 bonus away from your opponent.

if you fly him with say... Dash, you can have Dash have Kanan Jarrus Crew opening BOTH dials, while it can be use only once, having your oponent guess which one any given turn is bound for some hilarity..... Bonus points for Tractor Beam on Keyan for Doughnut Protection.

+1 vote for Keyan.

I recently flew the following against a Wedge, Stresshog and Tycho and came out victorious.

Keyan Farlander + FCS + PTL + B-Wing/E2 + Kyle Katarn (38)

Arvyl Crynyd + Chardraan Refit + A-Wing Test Pilot + Shield Upgrade + PTL (28)

Ello Asty + R2 Astro + VI + Int Astro (32)

Arvyl is my little blocker and Keyan/Kyle put down the hurt. Just park Arvyl where you think your opponent is going to be and try to point your B-Wing in that general direction.

Don't under-estimate the benefit of a 1 forward and barrel roll back. It catches people by surprise sometimes.

Nera is good but once her ordnance is exhausted she is just a regular B-Wing .. a very expensive regular B-Wing. Many argue that ordnance is just starting to find relevance in this game so I would probably take a step back from it and focus on getting fellas in your arcs.

stress hog helps.

wait for them to get ready to attack you, and then turn into the fight then.

This is emphatically not true. Unless they're flown well that won't happen, and even then it's not so good as to be a sure thing.

Umm, you can only barrel roll left or right

You can decide where you place the barrel roll on your ship, which allows to move forward or backwards while you move left or right with your barrel roll. This is one of the main reasons why BR is so strong for repositioning.

In wave 3 they were awesome as the TIE swarms were the domination presence in the meta these B-wings could jam up a swarm with blocking and with their high shield count and high firepower with the adv sensors where they could make an action before overlapping makes the B-wing the Brawler of the match.

I think the trick with the b-wing with Z-95 as a filler would probably be the best way to go. The Bandits would try to block and create a traffic jam that B-wings can just run in and blast their way out. Problem is with the 2 ship meta and Ace wing it is hard to get these ships caught up in a furball.

I think he means left or right, but sliding back half a base. Super slow roll.

Yes. That was the intent .. Not communicated well though .. Apologies.

B-Wings are kinda tough to use. I do like Nera and Keyan though. I tried using Keyan with Push the Limit and Kyle katarn the other day. it was kinda neat. Take 2 actions, Fire, spend stress, free focus. Heavy Laser cannon works pretty well on him. Basically 4 dice attack from any range. Spending stress he can Koiogron turn every turn sorta like Tie defenders.

B-Wings truly are the Rebel Swiss Army Knife. The can Joust better than an X-Wing, but the sheer number of upgrade slots you can take advantage of means they can be so much more than just a Jouster.

Want to take full advantage of that red dial? Grab Advanced sensors, and so long as you do a green next turn, there was no penalty. You can also take advantage of the pre-move barrel roll to fly unreasonably close to Asteroids.

Want to dial the Jousting up to 11? Grab Fire Control systems and wave goodbye to the X-Wing as your Jousting Value skyrockets.

TLTs got you down? Grab a Dagger with Tractor beam, and throw him on a rock before they get to fire.

Maybe you need some control? You can grab the Ion cannon for a mere 3 points, and escort that Decimator off the edge of the board.

Looking to test out the new Guidance Chips? Well this is the only Rebel ship that can get the crit and take Extra Munitions!

BUT WAIT! The B-Wing E/2 mod gives you a crew slot for a mere point, so you can grab any crew you need for that ludicrous combo you're thinking of!

Maybe you could just go with Chopper for a discount Advanced Sensors, or Zeb for knife-fighting!

Maybe take Kanan or Hera and open up that dial, maybe Sabine and Extra Munitions for some tasty bomb action! Tactician and the Ion Cannon for the ultimate control ship! Kyle Katarn for PTL-lite!

And that's just the generics.

I'm a fan of ion cannon + fire control system

2 blues with this setup plus two y-wings with ion turrets won me a TIE defender back at imdaar alpha and I still run it occasionally with success
