First time 'Store Championship-er' looking for some advice

By HoundsTooth, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi guys. I've got my first Armada tournament coming up in just over a weeks time and I've got a list in mind but I'm looking for some advice on 'tinkering' with the details. The bare bones will be an Assault Frigate B, Yavaris with Raymus, two CR90a's with Turbolaser Reroute Circuits, Jan and three X-Wings and three B-wing Squadrons. I want to keep things as simple as possible in terms of ship upgrades as I don't want to miss things in the 'heat of battle' so-to-speak. At the same time, though I am not expecting to win, I do want to give my opponents as good a fight as I can. At the moment the list I have is this -

391points - Rebels

Assault Frigate MkII B [flagship] General Dodonna, Adar Tallon, Gunnery Team, Boosted Comms and Electronic Countermeasures

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate with Yavaris and Raymus Antilles

CR90a with Turbolaser Reroute Circuits

CR90a with Turbolaser Reroute Circuits

Jan Ors

3x X-Wing Squadrons

3x B-Wing Squadrons

Objectives - Precision Strike, Fleet Ambush and Dangerous Territory.

The parts of the list I'm not so sure about are Adar and Boosted Comms on the Assault Frigate. Do I need two 'dedicated' carriers in my fleet? I'm thinking that something like Enhanced Armaments might be a better option as I'm going to potentially using it more often and therefore less likely to forget about it. I'm also trying to figure out whether Expanded Hanger Bay might be a better option than Boosted Comms as I'm likely to fly the Jan/X-Wings with the Frigate. I've flown three B-Wings with Yavaris and Antilles before and quite enjoyed the devastation it caused. Even if my opponents are wise to it and try to avoid it I might be able to use it to my advantage still by dictating how they avoid it.

The biggest problem I'm having though is with the objectives. The games I've played so far have tended to be 'death-match' type games so I don't have the most experience in the world with them. I've gone for Precision Strike due to the number of Bombers in the list and the flipping damage cards face up looks like it might be annoying for the opponent. Especially as with Dodonna I'm also looking through the top four cards when landing crits! I chose Fleet Ambush for the opportunity to get the B-Wings into the thick of things sooner by targeting whatever the opponent deploys there with Yavaris and the B's. The third one is trickier... I've gone for Dangerous Territory as it would seem to combo well with Dodonna. I was thinking about Superior Positions due to the combination of bomber squadrons and fast ships being able to get in behind ships and score points. I've ruled out Intel Sweep and Minefields, the former as it's a lot of points to lose if I can't grab three of the tokens, the latter as I don't want something else to worry about (hitting the mines in this case!).

What do you guys think? All advice is gratefully received. I've got at least one more game lined up before the tournament so I'll have the opportunity to try out any suggestions! :D

If I'm using Adar Tallon and Yavaris I include Luke 100% of the time. Especially with Dodonna, if you get him up to the Defender with Adar, unactivated him and double tap with Yavaris, that's 3 chances in one turn to get the hit/crit combo straight thru shields. I can tell you from experience that Vic and I's HATE that combo. Or the more common Demolisher of Pain (fully kitted out expanded launcher type) will absolutely LOATHE Luke like this.....Just a thought

My follow-up question for you is, do you have 2 Assault Frigs? If so, I'll dig up a list that I used recently and felt really good with it.

take Scrugs they are faster then B-wings

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 393/400

Commander: General Dodonna

Assault Objective: Precision Strike
Defense Objective: Contested Outpost
Navigation Objective: Minefields

Assault Frigate Mark II B (72 points)
- Adar Tallon ( 10 points)
- Flight Controllers ( 6 points)
- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)

[ flagship ] Assault Frigate Mark II B (72 points)
- General Dodonna ( 20 points)
- Lando Callriassian ( 4 points)
- Flight Controllers ( 6 points)
- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57 points)
- Yavaris ( 5 points)
- Raymus Antilles ( 7 points)

1 Jan Ors ( 19 points)
1 Luke Skywalker ( 20 points)
1 X-Wing Squadron ( 13 points)
6 Y-Wing Squadrons ( 60 points)

If you're not too hung-ho with that many Y's, drop 1 or two for Scurrgs or X's.

Consider swapping Fleet Ambush for Hyperspace Assault.

Fleet Ambush is more of a passive objective that puts the ball in their court; they can deploy in a staggered formation or deploy sideways on their side of the board to largely negate any advantage you'd get, or even put a Demolisher or Yavaris of their own right up front. Hyperspace Assault lets you drop a Yavaris + some B-Wings in a number of locations, which can either cause serious damage or possibly just force them to activate a certain ship first (easy way to force an opponent to move an MC30 / Gladiator early, preventing a deadly first-last activation).

Also, think long and hard about Gunnery Team; AFIIs don't hit particularly hard, and the points could be used to upgrade an X-wing to Wedge, Luke, or even Dutch (he's great utility, and works in a pinch defensively with Yavaris double-locking enemy squads or sniping an ace).

My follow-up question for you is, do you have 2 Assault Frigs? If so, I'll dig up a list that I used recently and felt really good with it.

Cheers for the list GIJosef, but at the moment I have only the one Assault Frigate. There may be another on the way in the near future... But at the moment my 'pod' of whales is a solitary one! ;)

take Scrugs they are faster then B-wings

Like my Assault Frigate my H6 is a solitary beast at the moment :(

I would definitely take anything else over Fleet Ambush. FA is an objective that a canny opponent can easily use against you, taking out Yavaris before it activates for instance.

Superior Positions is a good choice as it lets you dictate the engagement and with your fighters can result in a few extra points.

I would keep boosted comms as it gives you more flexibility in deployment and tactics. Increasing your squadron value by one is useless if you're out of range to command any squadrons.
