My sobering perspective.

What if these little ships are a big change to the meta and they are just taking a small cautious step to ensure nothing breaks?

As a mostly Rebel player I look at 3 or the 5 cards and mixed in with what we have what a big change, Toryn Farr, Bomber Command Centre and the CR75, you start mixing them in with Flight Controllers, X-Wings, A-Wings, Jon Ors, Nym and on and on. Such a little change but the ripple effect is getting much larger because of the increasing choices. I dare say with Comms Noise and Agent "Pork Chop" the Imperials are making plans.

The Flotillas themselves have Squadron 2 and even though they may not survive all that long they can get a few squadrons to where they want to be as that Scatter will provide a fair boost.

I did notice the speed dials of both are set for 3, it may be an easter egg of information, or I may be completely misinterpreting that.

I hope, that 2 ships every six months is the plan moving forward. Rather than one big yearly shake down and change it makes for two smaller changes. Even if all we get are Flotillas the changes are really exciting and look like lots more fun to be had. Mind you, I am hoping and speculating about something I know naught of. We could as easily see two more ships added to the wave as not.

I had a real quick look so far:

The Raider has a Speed 3 Dial (Speed 4)

The Imperial has a Speed 2 Dial (Speed 3)

The MC80 has a Speed 2 Dial (Speed 2)

We don't need no stinkin' wave III

We've got shapeways :P

I would like to primarily stop in to this thread to say two things:

  • .......They probably have capacity issues at the factories they are working with in China....

No way. Not capacity issues, but quality control and wages issues.

Wages for migrant workers are increasing quite sharply in China, the average wage for a pair of hands is now 5,000RMB a month. This has doubled over the last 2 years, at least, as the cost of living increases in cities with consumer inflation. Many people are returning to the countryside, or just refusing to work for low wages anymore as they cannot feed themselves. If you pay the higher wages though, unlimited workers are still available.

This means that if they pay less, they will have staff turnover issues in addition to the quality control issues associated with using Chinese labourers who usually give 0% of a **** if the product they turn out is substandard in any way. Factories here often spend more money checking for quality than they do producing.

This answer is based on the weekly dinner-table bitching of everyone I know who owns/runs a business here.

I'm pretty sure there are two or so more ships coming for wave three myself, just because I don't think FFG has released a two-ship wave for either game that wasn't a core-set since the opening X-wing release.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but X-wing was Core Set and then Y-Wing, X-Wing, TIE Adv, TIE FIghter? Armada was Core Set and then GSD, Corv, NEB, Rebel Fighters, Imp Fighters.

I just don't see them breaking the pattern at this point.

I just don't see them breaking the pattern at this point.

Neither do I. I think we are about to see an Interdictor and a Quasar as medium sized ships because:

  1. Previous website art (interdictor)
  2. Rebels (quasar)
  3. Both would be suitable for a fleet support card slot
  4. Glaring lack of medium ship classes in game
  5. Both would fill a tactical niche in their faction's fleet

Personally I quite like armada's expansion pacing.

I haven't had the chance to play through all the interesting things in Wave 2. I've hardly touched my rebel fleet I've been tinkering with my Imperial lists.

I love the options these support ships bring. Flanking big ships as blockers, fighter pushers and repairs! These will all make big impacts on how the game plays.

I agree with D503 that we really do need another medium ship for both sides. There is lots of room to add those in, but the support ships are a very interesting and fun addition.
