Prediction: Admiral Nelson will be playing Armada regularly well into 2017

Callin' it now.

That's like saying Dano will still be in the tub for 2017

His plan is to turn into the Emperor by staying in the tub until he is equally prune-y and wrinkly.

Can we not call out our fellow forumites like this?

This forum has historically not fell into this kind of personal call outs, I think it should stay that way.

The dude kind of called himself out.

Look, I'm notorious for sittin' on the fence and seeing all perspectives. Admiral went into full troll mode.

You know what? When he calms down, re-assesses his outrage, and returns to being a civil contributor to the forum, I'll be happy he stuck around well into 2017 :)

I feel the general idea, but Admiral did something really special here lately. That may well be the biggest flip-out I have seen in Armada. Come, he /swore/ he was leaving and then hung around putting up post after post, and wall after wall of text. I would have been disappointed if we had /not/ jumped on him for behaving like that.

This was across not one, but two forums at least. I don't go to the Imperial Assault one, so I can't vouch for that one. I've never seen anything like what I saw this week, short of a psychotic break. When Steve calls out someone publicly, it's that bad. However, I think this was deserved because of the sheer insanity of it all.

I agree with you, he did flip out.

I'm not defending his actions/posts which unfortunately, I think that's what people are going to take away from my post and will justify this because of his behavior. He is clearly passionate about the game and imho, went over the top.

I'm just saying that we have had a good forum with regards to these kinds of posts--meaning we haven't really had them and I think we should want to keep it that way.

I understand your concern, and it is well meant, but this post is really just good-natured joking around. There's nothing malicious about it, so I don't really see the harm in it. Especially after multiple meltdowns/soapboxes. He chose to draw the attention in. Side effects may include others pointing out ridiculous behavior.

Personally, I think the only rule a forum needs is one for these situations. If you want to flame someone, do it the pertinent threads, but don't create a thread around trolling an individual. It's petty and demeaning. It is also the kind of thing that could lead to moderators taking a more active roll here.

Most of us are adults. Let's act like it, even when one of us may be having difficulties. If you want to silence someone on the Internet, just stop responding to them. Continuing to call them out does nothing other than draw more negative attention.

>shrug<

I know I've lost my temper from time to time, and it certainly doesn't help to have someone pick at you for it.

Prediction: Admiral Nelson will be playing Armada regularly well into 2017

Then I will be happy to give him a game well into 2017.

Never go Full Jar Jar....

and he went full Jar Jar...that's why he went home empty handed.

Let the Admiral sink himself.

No need to create threads attacking him. Particularly when you represent a business like WWPD. Makes the site look bad.

He went so Jar Jar that "going full Jar Jar" has been renamed "going full AdmiralNelson"

I think the deciding factor will be whether his was on of the fleets up for bid on e-bay while he was flipping out. Swallowing your pride is one thing, coughing up that kind money again is another.

I didn't take it personal. For the record I was not talking about Amada on the X-wing forum until someone went low and brought up my Armada post. I made a paragraph, maybe two, of a response about my feelings on Armada, and that was all.

Fantasy flight reads and responses to what you think about released waves.

From the most recent X-wing release post:

"Alex: I love reading the FFG X-Wing forums after a preview article has been posted. It's a very involved and passionate community, and it's great fun to watch the discussion and debate unfold, whether positive or negative. Not everything we do hits the mark, and not every player is going to love the choices we've offered. But when we actually knock it out of the park, it's hugely thrilling.

Frank: I, too, enjoy going on the forums. I love seeing people's (sometimes hyperbolic) reactions to the things we finished months prior. I enjoy seeing people light up and explode with words of excitement when they learn of a new card that will boost their favorite ship or when they learn their favorite ship is finally going to get into X-Wing."

-------------------

I can't imagine the Armada people would behave any different than the X-wing producers. After-all, they are human and would naturally be curious about their work. So what you say here actually matters a few times a year.

I didn't say I won't play just not buy anything from the cagy, secretive, non-communities FF. I also won't be demoing games. Like most older gamers, we have huge collections. This will just be another game that hits the tables once, or twice, a year for us. Without much info to go on, I thought wave II releases would be the norm for each year and made my purchases accordingly, painting, getting stuff off eBay and other sites, and demo decisions based on that. It wasn't the money, it was the time getting every pimped out thing and all the extra upgrade cards in eBay. We spent a lot of time on growing this game in our area. Out of all of us, I felt the most betrayed by the non-communicative FF because I bought the stuff. Some others painted my stuff, but most of the many hours painting was done by me. Sorry, we got other games like twilight struggle etc. for nuances. I thought this was going to be something different, much like X-wing. We are having fun right now, but don't believe we will soon being stuck pushing the same plastic around. A squdron pack, 4 captial ships, with the admirals, and most importantly the upgrades, was what we where looking for. I clicked on the site everyday to see what was coming down the pipeline. I felt suckerpunhed like Ralf did when he was finally told to drink his Ovaltine.

I also think this gives some serious questions as to the viability of the game as a whole. We don't know because FF feels they are above communicating to us. You look at the sales number but fail to realize like I did recently that this is a bunch of stock being held by a bunch of players who got in who can't find enough others close enough to play regularly, at all, or with their same level of enthusiasm. Many X-wing players don't like the game and many thought they would just get their X-wing buddies to play. But the game is so slow for many of them--talk about nuances. Others didn't like X-wing and saw an alternative. Their are tons of pockets of players all over not getting game out of their investment, so just blindly looking at the sales like I was doing and believing the health was there was not matching up to what people were seeing in their games stores and communities. I think the retailers are particular troubled by the amount of space it takes up on their shelves and that people are spending their money online because FF makes the huge mistake of not making the Core Set have a reasonable, "first hits on us" appeal. Since people aren't buying at the game stores in enough size to support the shelf space in many places, they aren't pushing it leaving many Armada players isolated. With so many stores not even conveniently located to most people, they are limited by their current set of friends. Asmodee is close with retailers, very close, and have likely heard their complaints. If that is the case, I just wish I could have gotten at least one more good size wave out of them before they tapered into the mini waves. I feel the game is just that close to really shining. They likely will never end the thing in order to prevent the base from revolting by feeling entirely adandoned. I also think that when people come to grips that this is it for a complete year or more after wave II, more people will be angry.

Anyway, I could go on a bit as you all know, but what would be the point? You'll just sit back and throw popcorn because what I any saying doesn't align with your way of playing the game, etc. The people who agree will sit out to avoid the same type of wrath. My anger was directed at FF mind you...and not at all you fine people ;-).

The thing is, though... we're all here. On their forum. Talking about their game. Pretty excited about their game.

You're allowed to be mad, or disappointed, or whatever. You're allowed to quit playing. The reason the quiet mockery is growing into open scorn is the level of rage and shade you're throwing at a game and how, despite your many threats, you haven't just gone ahead and left us alone.

If you want to go, go. If you want to stay, contribute something more to the discussion than tears.

Hey brother,

Your paragraphs tend to have a lot of volume in them.

Well said Admiral, I know that couldn't have been easy

To the man's credit, he's actually eased up on the Jar Jar throttle, and now that's added a balance, and the audience can connect......

So who else thinks Reiryc is just another forum account or personal family/friend of Admiral Nelson? They have the same pic, and Reiryc has been routinely the lone defender of AdmiralNelson's depsicable and embarrassing behavior as he continues to create a toxic environment on these forums.

Just a thought.

And no, AdmiralNelson deserves the call-out he is getting. His behavior and actions and rants called out FFG, the game, the game's community, and was entirely inappropriate and over-the-top and made multiple repeated posts on the matter.. Either he quits the game, or he's full of $^ and should be forever embarrassed for his actions until he apologizes and shows genuine contrition for his juvenile tantrums.
