cheat caught on video??????

By shotbyscott, in X-Wing

Very sad how ppl judge here.

I don't want a cheater getting away but i rather want 100 cheaters getting half cought without a prove than one nervous innocent getting shitstormed with the brutallity that culd be read here and at other places.

if you saw the video it was very damning...

Yes it was. i mean it is just a game but that was a store championship I believe so rare prizes were at stake.

if you saw the video it was very damning...

Be that as it may (I didn't see the video for the record):

Put away the torches and pitchforks - sounds like it is being addressed and will be handled properly.

Maybe tournaments should just be dropped completely, then this wouldn't be an issue! LOL,

I intentionally didn't watch it when the topic blew up in the german community. Your eyes can mislead you, especially just seeing a video of something. Lets Heidelberger/FFG judge it. Thats my point.

It's written throw the first stone when you are innocent. But maybe not throwing stones at all is even better... just talk about it in a normal tone, but personal attacks...

Nothing that is written here on the forum means anything more than something written on toilet paper. Nothing we say here will make a difference to the folks ruling on this, or at least it shouldn't.

I agree folks should not be making personal attacks. It IS just a game. If he cheated he should have to suffer the consequences of FFG organized play rulings. Life goes on.

The Player in charge has removed the video cause of the shitsorm that happend to him on youtube.

He has stated that he will give the data to

"Heidelberger Spieleverlag" the german distributor.

"Heidelberger Spielverlag" has stated that they will inform FFG.

The Player has contacted his opponent to get a statment from him.

His opponent says that at no time he felt that he was cheated, that the whole game was pleasent and friendly.

He dont thinks that there was a deliberate manipulation.

He ends with:" Big Thanks to XY for the game and his Honesty! Keep calm and keep flying"

So much to the Statement of the "Victim"

Now to the Statments of the Observers of the Video!

" I can see him clearly changing his Dial"

I watched the video multiply times and what can be seen is the player fiddling with his dial and it seems he is checking the manouver.

At no time in the video one can see the manouver before the touching.

No one can prove that he is changing the dial.

That the Dial must be changed is an OPINION not an OBSERVATION!

The explanation that he was nervously checking is just as possible.

So both could be true and even FFG or the Pope couldnt tell.

What will be the outcome?

If he was cheating or just nervously checking,

he probably won´t do that EVER again after expiriencing the outrage!

Personally i find it disturbing, that you possibly could get a Tournamentban for being nervous.

This by no means fits the Fly-Casual-Atmosphere that i have experinced at the 7 Tournaments i have visited.

And i hope that FFG just drops it and leaves this to the community to handle.

I don´t know the prices at your SC.

Well good for him for sticking up for this guy.

When the Conquest thing went down, I was sympathetic toward the cheater. I thought the community was being too harsh and needed to lighten up. And then the whole, "This is from him." thing happened and I flipped positions. To cheat and admit your mistake is one thing. To cheat and then try to fool the world by making up a new account boils my blood.

Fortunately, it hasn't come to that in this case and I hope it doesn't. But you know what they say, "Once bit, twice shy." I'm not very inclined to believe that he wasn't cheating at the moment. As others have said, though, the decision's not up to us so it really doesn't matter what I believe.

Even if he cheated he wouldn't be the worst creature on earth as some seem to believe. Yes he should get punished if he cheated and no i don't want to play vs cheaters but it's still a game and not mass murder we're talking about.

At least one guy with the worst personal attacks already said sorry for it. Even if movies make you believe that vengeance and street justice are the best ways to punish someone, they are not.

No one republished it. He just linked it.

Yet. Plenty of people downloaded the video already :)

Someone should cut off his thumb

I want to officially withdraw my previous post because I have realized thats not what I think (and want to do/be). I just overreact and it is not my concern (no matter what soleone has done or not, I dont want to be an internet bully, that can harm people). Nevertheless, I hope a solution will be found tonclear this case. My apologies for my statement.

Too late, we got the rope for you already … ;-)

The rules are clear and depending on the tier of the Tournament they should get enforced. Being nervous is not an issue, being nervous and manipulating one of your dials is, even if he did not cheat.

I reposted the video here:

If he is judged a cheater from teh evidence by the German Distributor/FFG it was evidence.
If he is cleared of charges it is a very good example of why you should leave your Dials alone one the table until it is time to reveal it, or VERY CLEARLY tell your opponent that you are lifting it to take a look at it.

Having watched it a lot on .5 and .25 speed I know what my verdict is but form your own opinion and lets await the official ruling.

I hadn't watched the video prior to just now. I maintain that the proper procedures have been followed and the powers that be will decide how best to see to that justice prevails, whatever they might decide that is. I hope they really look into the 2:25-2:30 time frame, with special attention to the 'nervousness' that occurs at the 2:26 mark. That should really help with their decisions I would think......

This whole thread left me feeling icky. I feel bad for the guy. I mean, what if he WASN'T cheating? This whole thing must be humiliating for him, and if he's innocent then I'm sure he feels even worse.

No one here knows one hundred percent, without a doubt, if he cheated or not. I don't think it's fair to treat someone with such indignation and anger when we really don't know for sure. It LOOKS like he's fiddling. But he may not be. So why crucify the guy?

I I feel it may be best to simply let FFG handle it. We know their stance on cheating. And if they find him to be cheating, he will suffer the consequences. Any further rage and mudslinging is damaging not to just the player in question, but the community as a whole.

I just got to see the video now as well. What gets me is that he never touches the dials except for that one point. Now, if his ships are in the middle of the table, obviously it would be awkward to reach over enemy ships to nervously tap your dial so you wouldn't expect any fidgeting, but there are other moments in the match where his Decimator and dial are close to where they were in the beginning, and yet we see no dial-touching. Furthermore, the touching began only after the X-wing boosted forward. The player then waited until the next ship was activating before reaching over to fiddle with the dial. It seems pretty incriminating to me.

And that move totally mattered. If his original move was a straight, he would have been hurting after the first exchange. If I were in his position and had really selected a 3-bank, I would have been anything but nervous. I would have been jubilant! Relaxed! The story just isn't adding up, in my opinion.

Just watched the vid. Is this thinking wrong - 1st round, the X-wings all go towards Vader. Vader flies to the side and the Deci turns towards the X-wings. I would think that the X-wings would gun towards Vader and bring the Deci in behind them. But the X-wings all turned into the Deci. Looks like to me he was was thinking that until the 1st X-wing tuned into the Deci then starts interacting with the dial.

Yeah......

And, unless you misdialed (lol) or had incredible (I didn't want to say unbelievable, for obvious reasons) intuition, why would you position the Decimator there? Weird, eh?

Edit: I'm done here though, and I trust that due process will be enacted and this will be settled appropriately.

Video is gone. Anyone able to explain what happened for those of us that couldn't see it while at work ?

Video is gone. Anyone able to explain what happened for those of us that couldn't see it while at work ?

Look here:

https://youtu.be/YpUoK6T_gLo

I get plenty nervous in the opening minutes of a tournament. It's actually totally bizarre, my hands shake a bit and I feel the adrenaline going strong. At the same time, I would never touch my dials. I know, everyone reacts to stress and nerves differently, but it just seems off.

And also, just because this joke should never be allowed to die:

This is from him.

This is not from him. He sent me the message to pass along.

Wow. I was all ready to post something along the lines of "hey, we don't know for a fact he cheated, let's not jump to conclusions", but now having seen the video... Well, I still think that I suppose, but it's hard to look at the video and believe it's anything but cheating, you can see his thumb pushing against the dial and his fingers.

If he's not cheating then he's being bloody stupid even fiddling with his dials at all (all he should ever do is a clearly announced check), but then making such a twisting-like motion with them, it beggars belief.

People, just stop cheating. Or play Lotr. Nobody cheats at a cooperative game...
