cheat caught on video??????

By shotbyscott, in X-Wing

Video removed

Good thing it has been downloaded then

This is beside the point, but what are players thoughts on your opponent checking their dial before they move? I often will inform my opponent I wish to view my dial before revealing for things like Adv Sensors and such. As long as they give consent, that is legal right?

Now CHANGING that dial is obviously blatant cheating, but I was curious what the thoughts were on viewing the dial after it had been set.

Republishing without the creator's consent, with the sole intention of damaging his reputation? YouTube would take it down the minute he asked. It might constitute a breach of all sorts of laws and regulations.

Firstly, the German community is outraged and is dealing with the situation at hand.

Secondly, most German players are chill (when not outraged ;-) )

How could anyone tell when they aren't?

**** video is gone I missed out

That is the most important point. Even if he actually did not cheat, he still broke the rules and should be disqualified. If any case of minor cheating and/or rule violations needs to get perma bans at the other hand, that could be discussed in a different topic; 18 months sounds more than enough if you ask me. And that is for premier events. Getting tarred and feathered should be enough for SCs … and yes, I mean this literally.

I got in touch with a German X-Wing player i know.

He is tight with the crowd playing in Marburg and will look into it.

I also downloaded and saved the video, in case it gets removed.

Good you did it. Its down already.

In the German Community this is hot topic right now.

The player in charge has stated in length his Train of Thought in the situation and demands that he is not changing his dial, but nervously checking if he will get blocked in the turn.

Some points:

1. We don,t know, if he changes his dial, so he clearly fiddles it.

2. The player himself has uploaded the video. (Why, when cheating?)

3. the 3 bank left is the obvious manouver, even if the xwings would have been chasing Vader instead he would still have a shot with rac after boosting.

4. he does the nervous thing also in the round befor, where it has no signifcance at all.

Everyone and his mother know the identity of the player right now, so he will be under closely monitor nontheless.

It is still in doubt if he is cheating, so as long there is doubt i see no reason for harsh punishment.

Its a game played for Fun not to earn you millions.

Burning a suspect is NOT fly casual!

5. He removes his video. If i would know im innocent i would keep that online and didnt care.

There was no:

-face

-name

-no personal data

Unless there are regulations agains nicknames now, no one did anything wrong. Plus there are backed up suspicions of cheating here.

I want to record all of my tournaments now.

You are not the owner of that video, re-uploading this thing should lead to one strike on your youtube account and theoretical getting sued for damages. The last part is very theoretical, the first part is very real ;-)

Do you think his ships will be going cheap on eBay soon? If so, I'm interested.

Cheers

You can't keep things off the internet.

While cheating is a hefty charge I am loath to throw around I really don't know that I could accurately replicate the 'nervous' actions WITHOUT moving the maneuver my dial is on. Additionally, while definitely easy/possible to forget your maneuver when thinking between options I can't imagine needing to check your dial that frequently to remember what you picked. If the defense is that he was nervously fiddling it doesn't really explain the behavior still since we also see him just spinning the dial on the table between bouts of a much less innocent looking action. Why pick it up like that every few second sporadically?

No one republished it. He just linked it.

And besides that there are so many YT-like services around the web...good luck keeping it offline now.

Sued for damages for that..? My god, thank you im not living in USA.

Someone just cut the first 3 minutes and chuck it on dropbox or something?

I cant do that from work. I´ll look into it once i get home.

The Player in charge has removed the video cause of the shitsorm that happend to him on youtube.

He has stated that he will give the data to

"Heidelberger Spieleverlag" the german distributor.

"Heidelberger Spielverlag" has stated that they will inform FFG.

The Player has contacted his opponent to get a statment from him.

His opponent says that at no time he felt that he was cheated, that the whole game was pleasent and friendly.

He dont thinks that there was a deliberate manipulation.

He ends with:" Big Thanks to XY for the game and his Honesty! Keep calm and keep flying"

So much to the Statement of the "Victim"

Now to the Statments of the Observers of the Video!

" I can see him clearly changing his Dial"

I watched the video multiply times and what can be seen is the player fiddling with his dial and it seems he is checking the manouver.

At no time in the video one can see the manouver before the touching.

No one can prove that he is changing the dial.

That the Dial must be changed is an OPINION not an OBSERVATION!

The explanation that he was nervously checking is just as possible.

So both could be true and even FFG or the Pope couldnt tell.

What will be the outcome?

If he was cheating or just nervously checking,

he probably won´t do that EVER again after expiriencing the outrage!

Personally i find it disturbing, that you possibly could get a Tournamentban for being nervous.

This by no means fits the Fly-Casual-Atmosphere that i have experinced at the 7 Tournaments i have visited.

And i hope that FFG just drops it and leaves this to the community to handle.

I don´t know the prices at your SC.

In Germany theiy where Plastic-Rangeruler and Cardboard....

not a lifesaving organ.

mob rule crucifixion and calls for perma-ban is more and more common here recently.

But if he's not guilty then he won't sell his ships.

Guilty, even if proven innocent.

First off all sorry for my bad English.

I am from Germany and the Guy u are talking about is someone i know a little bit from our Tournaments.

I dont know him privat and we are not friends (except Facebook) but we know each other. As far as i can tell he is very friendly and helpful in Games. I am really shocked how this is handeld by the community in Germany & USA. Should this action (if it was intentionally) be punished ? Of course it should. Can everybody say here he cheated never in his Life in a Game / Girl (something else), Mistakes were maken there is no doubt. But i think we should not massively exaggerate this.

I watched the video xx times and as far as i can tell i am not 100 % sure if its just nervous behavior or intent action. Its now up to FFG to make a decision. But i thin NO ONE can really proof it because no one saw the Dial before it was lay down.

As i said sorry for my bad english ;-) have i nice day and fly causual

Get a rope.

How about we leave that horse alone, it's just resting 'cause it's really tired.

Put away the torches and pitchforks - sounds like it is being addressed and will be handled properly.

Someone should cut off his thumb

I want to officially withdraw my previous post because I have realized thats not what I think (and want to do/be). I just overreact and it is not my concern (no matter what soleone has done or not, I dont want to be an internet bully, that can harm people). Nevertheless, I hope a solution will be found tonclear this case. My apologies for my statement.

Very sad how ppl judge here.

I don't want a cheater getting away but i rather want 100 cheaters getting half cought without a prove than one nervous innocent getting shitstormed with the brutallity that culd be read here and at other places.
