A few waves behind, but having fun

By Red 7, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just trying to build a list that will be fun, can cause some damage, and uses only what I have for cards.

(Blue/Red Core, Millennium Falcon, Slave 1, Tie Interceptor, Rebel Aces, A Wing).

Hopefully the link thingy works

I was thinking that the Falcon title adds an evade for defence, Chewie increases survivability, then Luke beefs up the attack a little. Engine upgrade is on there so that Chewie can keep up :D

Green squadron pilot is for blocking, and marksmanship helps him to hit a little more consistently.

Jake will zip around, dodge arcs, and try to nibble away at hull points.

Hello Red 7!

I think your list is fine although I would probably add proton rockets to Jake and change your green to a prototype. This will give you a nice one shot. I am not sure how I feel about marksmanship on a 2 attack dice ship but you can always try!

I think for me (for my playstyle), I would probably swap jake out for poe giving him veteran instincts and R2-D2 so you have a fun ace. (Well, at least I think he's fun!) This can be paired with chewie, push the limit, and engine upgrade with a prototype blocker using chardaan refit

Just my 2 cents! Happy flying!.

Chewie + Determination + Katarn + Title = 49pts

Poe + PTL + R2-D2 = 36pts

Awing Prototype + Refit = 15pts

Poe + R2 gives you a beastly ace. Katarn works well with Poe and R2. Stressed from PTL? Do a green, gain a shield, katarn gives Poe a focus, then push another focus + boost/TL. Even if Poe is blocked on his green, he still loses stress and gains his all important focus thanks to Katarn. With R2-D2, you are gonna be locked into greens anyways, so dont worry about stressing Poe, especially with Katarn nearby. Chewie + Determination makes him last a tad longer from those crits. Awing is your blocker.

I do like Jake though, but Poe will hit harder, and will be a bigger threat, possibly helping Chewie live longer if they go after Poe first.

Marksmanship is a waste of 3 pts, its a less versatile focus action (it cant be used on defense)

i would put VI and Lone wolf on the GSP

maybe drop luke down to a gunner and give jake autothrusters to keep him alive longer

I am looking to have a double A Wing list, so I am going to stick to A's for this particular build.

I do acknowledge that POE and R2 are awesome, and appreciate the tips though ;)

I don't have Lone Wolf or Auto-thrusters unfortunately :(

I was thinking that the Marksmanship freed me up from taking a focus, A's are lacking in attack, but are fine with defence.

I don't think that Katarn is able to give focus to others, just his own ship...

I have made a couple of changes, and incorporated some of you feedback.

Please feel free to continue to critique the list, and/or suggest things that I have completely missed :P ...

I think that I will use this thread to post builds as they come to me.

That way I have all the lists in one place, and can access all of the great feedback that you are all sharing easily.

Here is the result of playing around with an A Wing build.

I am particularly proud of Gemmer with Expose (I really don't see him being used at all...), and Tyco with Wired. Both cards seem to play well with the pilot's abilities

What do you guys think?

Gemmer is ok but a GSP is usually better for the points available. Even with Gemmer's extra defence die Expose is really a no go. The extra attack die is ok but you have to use your action so you end up with 3 unmodified dice. Is much better long term to focus, giving you the option to use it for attack or defence. The key to the a-wing is really PTL.

if looking to run 3 named pilots I would go for the following:

Jake w/PTL, VI, Prockets and AT's (33)

Tycho w/Wired, PTL, Prockets and AT's (35)

Gemmer w/PTL, Prockets and AT's (30)

If you don't have the AT's you could drop them and put the shield upgrade on a couple of them (probably Jake and Tycho)

I like that list!

I would have to put shields on them due to my lack of ATs.

Has anyone had experience with this build using shield upgrade?

To be honest the shield upgrade is a little expensive for what it brings. Without the AT's you could replace Gemmer with either VI Poe and R2-D2 or Predator Luke with R2-D2. That would give you a little more bite and end game threat

So something like THIS

I think that we are onto something here!

What does everyone think?

I like it, i've run similar before but the main thing to be wary of is Poe getting pretty heavily targeted. He can go down pretty quickly under focused fire but if he survives to the end game is really dangerous.

If you get the chance to get hold of the Rage card looks like it would be really dangerous on Tycho

So building off your original list (and respecting the xpacs you have) I think this might fly better:

Chewie

Gunner

Title

Engine Upgrade (same as what you had only I downgraded Luke for Gunner. Same basic effect but I find that Luke doesn't always pull his 2 point weight)

Prototype Pilot

Refit (I downgraded the A-wing for points. As mentioned Marksmanship is rarely worth it, and definitely not on a Green. So a naked Green might as well be a naked Prototype to allow for Proton Rockets on the next ship)

Tycho

Title

Proton Rockets

Wired

Push the Limit (Tycho with PTL is great build up stress and there are still no worries, while there are other better secondary talents you don't have access to something like Rage, so Wired is a decent backup to build off the fact he will ALWAYS have stress and will fill the role of Lone Wolf on him. Proton Rockets can come or go, they give a nice boost to damage but if you really want a Green over Prototype drop them and you can upgrade.)

Your list looks fine to me. It's not what you have but how you use it. Most importantly have fun.

How about these for thematic squadrons:

It's a trap!

Its tight in here

Here is a fun little list with Jake and two Blue Squadron Novices.

Jake zips around doing his thing using predator to ad some more consistent hits,

While the two blue's stick together, focus fire, and regenerate shields.

Comments and constructive feedback welcome as always.

Tweaked it a bit HERE
