I think when the minis get to a certain size, it's likely they'll end up unpainted. To these flotilla ships look more like YV666s in size, or more like CR-90s?
I'm in the hopefully-unpainted camp, because I'd enjoy painting these up.

The type of packaging used compares with other expansions we've had that have been prepainted...
I guess we'll find out when they land!
Considering the display-style packaging, I'd be surprised if they're unpainted. The only times we've gotten unpainted expansions (all 3 fighter packs) the packaging had an art insert.
Doesn't matter to me, I'm painting them either way. You know what, though? It kinda does matter to me -- I hope they are painted. That way they're not bare plastic when playing against opponents who don't paint!
Yes, its going to make the game turn slighly ugly if they are not painted. Particularly if people are planning to use a lot of them.
Well, here's the thing - FFG is showing us different things.
Look at them. Totally painted:
The minis in the above images are pretty clearly pre-painted. You can see differences in the shades on the panels on both ships - and it's not a question of 'raised' or 'lowered' panels - the panels are even with each other, and have obviously different hues.
(Of note: I've since read this thread on two different computers, and on one of them I can't actually see a difference in color on the panels, but the other monitor that is hardware-color-calibrated which I used for production art definitely shows a difference in panel color. So I guess I'd say it may depend on your monitor if you can't see the variation, above, but it's pretty clear there is one.)
...THIS one, on the other hand, is a completely different render of the model.
There is no "paint" on this one. (Not that there actually is on the other, either - it's all CGI, either way, just sayin')
So it seems like it's possible that FFG simply hasn't decided if they are going to go with prepainted on them or not, as they've so far shown us the ships both painted and unpainted.
(Given I'm pretty annoyed that the *fighters* came unpainted, I'll go ahead and call this one a dealbreaker for me if they aren't painted.)
