Help!!
So, I initially said I was going to stick with TFA-era ships, but then I played the game on Saturday (my first game was in a tournament and I scored a modified win!). I've since bought Imperial Aces, TIE Interceptor, TIE Advanced, YT-1300, A-Wing, X-Wing, Y-Wing, and an E-Wing. My Plano 3750 isn't going to cut it. So, I went looking...
I found this spacious 18"x13"x6" case in Harbor Freight for $25 after a coupon, and it includes the two layers of foam: a 2" thick pluck foam and a thinner egg crate shaped piece.
Can anyone who has experience using pluck foam answer a few questions and give me some pointers?
I was thinking about cutting the whole year of pluck foam horizontally by a half inch to create two layers for staggered heights that create a more molded fit and not just a rectangular foam opening. I'd start on the newly-formed bottom tray, create the base of the "nest", and return the top portion with foam plucked out to create the opened tubes. Is this feasible?
You can see the pluck foam pattern in the picture - it just seems like the square notches are too big to allow for that kind of detail. I don't think the foam would even allow me to store my ships as they're shown in the layout in the picture. I'd have to strip out a whole column of foam instead of little segments to allow for. individualized nooks.
Or should I just resign this case to be used exclusive use for medium and large ships, and buy some cheap, thin foam to cut into my own shaped 55
I have no way to store my X-Wing collection, and I'm getting the Ghost soon. I just put all my ships, in their awesome glory, on a high shelf away from the Jawas and Ewoks that live with me.
I'm going on a trip in June to see some family, and they asked me to bring my collection. I need a storage solution that is worthy. I must house the following:
Ghost
Millennium Falcon
Decimator
Firespray
Jumpmaster
HWK
K-Wing and a bunch of little ships.
The Ghost, obviously, is the biggest concern.
Any ideas?
I keep my ghost in a plastic storage bin. I have Plano organizers for most of my collection, which fits most of the ships just fine.
I got a smallish piece of matress foam that I cut up to make padding, and I keep all of the plastic packaging for the ships.
So, for the small ships, I cut out just the plastic shape, and then make a padding to cushion the ship when I put it in a Plano slot.
For the Ghost, I trimmed the bottom to fit, and put the whole clear plastic kit and kaboodle in the big container.
If I had to ship it or take it on a trip, I'd cut out some of my foam padding to secure it in the container.
So, something like this.
And something like this.
*Edit* Ah , a necro. Well there it is anyway.
Edited by Koing907I use this bag and foam currently:

I use it for my X-Wing, Armada, and Imperial Assault minis.
I went from Plano to Custom Battlefoam to the above Gameplus pluck foam solution. I can't recommend it enough. It's relatively cheap for foam and good quality. They have foam from 1" to 4". It can hold everything (minus the CR90 and maybe the Imperial Corvette) up to Wave 8.
If I do the math, the Imperial Corvette and the CR90 should both fit, as long as I put them in diagonally. Am I missing something?
