LOL! Wouldn't be a show if we didn't record right before gigantic news is released!

We, of course, will cover all of that and more next week!

Oh, and don't forget to vote for your favorite X-Wing podcast in the Star Wars Podcast Awards!

So is hothie going to Scum and Villainy next for a "Fly Casual" episode? ;)

i talked to MJ the day after they recorded during our match and i thought the same thing. Then He'll fly to England and cast it up with the 186th squad.

He's on the Campaign Trail! Hothie for Pres 2016!

Another great episode fellas, I really enjoyed the talk about flying casual. I've got a story that has been weighing on me these past few weeks. It was at the store championship in Seattle that Kyle mentioned in the episode. I was playing a corran, vrill, bandit list and playing against palp aces.

My opponent had stopped with the shuttle, and then tried to do the same on the following turn. He realized his mistake before he flipped his dial but after I had confirmed his dials were set and I used Intel agent. So he made a pained noise, flipped the dial, and said, "go ahead and fly the shuttle off the board."

I hemmed and hawed, and finally decided to do just that. I felt bad and apologized profusely before accidentally making it all worse. I told him off he had just said he'd made a mistake with his shuttle and asked to correct his dial, I would've let him since I didn't use intel on the shuttle anyway. Giving him some ray of hope, he then said, "oh if that's the way you feel, would you want to just go back?" And I thought the first choice was awkward!

By this time, the shuttle was already removed from the table and there really was no going back at this point. A fresh volley of apologies and we moved on, with him occasionally muttering to himself about making such a foolish mistake (can't blame him there).

I felt awful about it for the whole rest of the day and still do. The thing was, the shuttle probably would've died that turn anyway. Corran was set for a range 1 focus, TL double tap, and Vrill was gonna have a 3 dice shot on it too since it was stressed. It had a sensor jammer and the emperor, but only had 6 hits left.

Anyway, I really regret taking the easy way out and wish I had just killed him the old fashioned way...with lasers.

I just got through the Flight deck, and im already hyped for next episode. to see your guy's thoughts on the FAQ, all the new goodies, and to see what MJ says on flying against a Kagi list on Vassal :o

I totally understand how you feel man. In a way, I really wish that wasn't the policy for assigning a red maneuver to an already stressed ship, and that it did something like Ion would do, a 1 Straight.

You feel like a jerk if you do what, by the rules your are allowed to do. And you feel even more stupid if the ship you didn't fly off the board when you had the chance to, comes around and kills you.

Overall though I have only ever had to face this choice twice in tournaments and made the same choice both times, I punish them by giving them the worse move, but not flying them off the board.

So is hothie going to Scum and Villainy next for a "Fly Casual" episode? ;)

If they ask, I will.

Oh hell no.

Things were definitely on the razor's edge at that moment, Soontir was coming up behind Corran and Vader was trying to get back there too. I needed the Emperor gone quickfast and in a hurry and that's why I made the choice I did. It may have been the correct choice, but it sure didn't feel like the right one.

In hindsight a 3 straight would've been just fine. It would've pushed him far enough forward that the shuttle wouldn't have a shot, he'd still be stressed, and Corran wouldn't need to barrel roll to get in position for the kill shot, so he could've focus and evaded for Soontir's shot. Besides, the Emperor has already been chucked into one abyss, he didn't need it from me too.

I've flown 3 ships off the board in tournaments one of them even being in world's 2014. Maybe I'm just giving into the dark side but I never feel like a jerk. I was never mean or spiteful about and just kept it light hearted. Karma caught up to me a week ago at store Champs when I accidently assigned a straight maneuver when I got the critical saying you can't be assigned straight maneuvers. Opponent flew him onto a rock into his death. Luckily I was in the middle of the map because my opponent would have flown me off the edge lol. Don't knock it till ya try it!

Thanks for the episode. I'll have to listen soon.

I totally see your point. I never fault anyone for doing something that is clearly within the rules and within your right to do so.

For me, personally, I just don't think I could do. Now that is a personal choice. Should I ever make that mistake, and my opponent flew my ship off my board, I would not think my opponent was being a jerk.

So you talk about nothing for 3 and a half hours and steal content from other podcasts? Cool. Why should I vote for you ever?

I usually allow my opponent to dictate how the game will be played, as im reletively new im in just 1 year now started at PAX East last year.

In my SC win round two i got confused about Initiative (as those super fancy challenge tokens werent given out yet) and allowed my Opponent's TLT's to shoot before my palp shuttle. and i went to shoot and he informed me i missed my opportunity to shoot, i say okay thats fine, whatever. Mad at myself for missing a R1 shot at a TLT with 4 dice will do that to you.

Later in the game he was setting his dials and as he went to reveal he mis-set two of his dials, his Y he wanted to 1 straight and his two HWKs to two hard. had this happened my OL would have been blocked and actionless, but he 2 hards with the Y because thats the dial, and 1 straights with 1 of the HWK's Same turn one of the HWKs dies, and the Y win doesnt get a shot because palp is off in a corner and he's at R1 of OL.

Don't fly them off the board. Position them so that next turn they fly off the board themselves :P

What has you most upset?

1. That they talk about nothing?

2. That you listened to them talk about nothing for 3.5 hours?

3. Or that they stole...nothing from other podcasts?

Great show, I listened to about 2 hours of it this morning before I had to go to work.

I heard you mention Vorpal Sword as being there during the early days of X-Wing.

Stealing and raiding from other podcasts is what the S&V Podcast does!

But seriously, I think that the NOVA Podcast has been original. Heck they were one of the first X-wing podcasts out there -- the current explosion of podcasts out there owes a lot to NOVA. Vote for 'em!

Not sure I necessarily agree with that sentiment. While I agree that this one topic had been discussed elsewhere, I felt that it was a hot button topic enough to discuss on the show.

Plus, if I were more concerned with if this show or that covered what we were going to discuss, we would not produce a show. Every show covers new ships, news, and all of that. I think the lure is to hear the opinions of the hosts and how they may differ.

But, to each their own.

How do you nicely tell a player who apparently only looses to me because of bad dice and not as a result of my experice of playing the game since wave three or flying my ships well, that he needs to fly better and not blame the dice?
