Should the CR90 have been a flotilla?

By DScipio, in Star Wars: Armada

So would you be happier if the Cr90 (and of course the TIE-Corvette... I mean Raider) would have been a flotlia from the start?

I personally would have liked it:

- the scale would fit better

- the Cr90 wouldn`t be so overpowered comparing with capital ships

- flotilla rules would be in the ruleset and not an expansion card

- it would help to creat the "fleet battle" feeling right from the start (core set)

- perhaps the core set could have sold better, because people could see "more" ships for the "high" price.

- It would stop corvettes from ramming captial ships to death (considering the fact that they are not much larger than the senosr dome on an ISD).

- GR75 and CR90 sound like they should be in the same catagory :P

Regarding the scale comparison to the GR75:

Thanks!

Just going by scale/immersion/aesthetics, I would have like both the Raider and the CR90 to be flotillas. Balance-wise, I think it would be trickier. A lot of the tactics I've played against when facing CR90 have had ramming as a important aspect.

Definitely. Though of course there is nothing stopping us from doing just that.

Yes there is no reason not to explore that variant.

I could see the Corellian Gunship as a flotilla, but not the corvette, if you are going by scale, but truthfully, the major reason that I'm against the idea is less due to scale and more to do with the function of the ship themselves.

Flotilla's seem to occupy a support role so far, and granted, we only have the two, but it makes a certain amount of sense. A swarm of small ships to bustle about doing what they do.

I feel like something that is primarily a combat vessel (even a small one) should have its own identity.

I have always assumed the CR90 and Raider represent more then one ship. Then again, its all abstract. There is no reason why the combat ships could not be flotillas, but it is up to the custom half for that. Really it is fine either way. The game is great fun.
