.... or we give FFG a little break.

By DScipio, in Star Wars: Armada

So lets assume Wave 3 is really only Gozantis and GR75.

Why dont we give FFG this little break?

We know that FFG is struggling a bit to satisfy the demand for their games. X-Wing, Edge of the Empire, Armada, Imperial Assualt all were great sucesses in a very short timeframe and the people buy the shelfes empty. We know that they can`t produce enough of a some high in demand products and even have problem to get their products to the retailers and costumers (in time).

But it is neither easy nor smart to just expand your production and supply capabilites.

So perhaps someone who just had to deal and deny 864 requests for more roleplay dice had to say:

"Yes your SSD with TIE-Wings concept looks great, and the Super-Uber-Transports that can finally crack open ISDs for the Rebels too, buuuuut we just dont have any means to produce them now. Could you not just sale them the gozatins and GR75 were are already producing for Rebellion as Wave 3? The paint and basing department has some time, you could use them too."

I for myself say: FFG take your time. I dont care if this is a small release or just a repacking of Rebellion models. It has fine ideas and adds a lot to the game. I dont want you to rush anything and loos money in the long run over your earlier successes and investments.

I don't think this is a production issue. The Armada designers most Likely clearly chose to just release these two packs if that's all that's in wave 3.

I support a smaller release schedule as well though. It does make production, spending by us, and game changes a lot easier and smoother.

If this is wave 3, so what, two new ship types with new rules and abilities that will change things up.

I like them and it's not like we have exhausted wave 2 play options yet.

I'd like to see smaller additions, maybe every 4 months going forwards.

Anecdotal evidence would also seem to imply that extra ships may already be in the pipe, but not quite prime time ready.

Everything FFG does, is done with intent...so I hear.

Two new ships is plenty for me to rejuggle lists with, when I get them, hehe.

my Wallet is ok with this and the game has enough depth that it doesn't need big waves the same way other games do to try and "fix" the meta. You really don't see any fleet builds running away with tournament wins. Which is a testament to the quality of the game.

Some folks just want everything fast, now now now!

yeah doesn't really work that way. that's a sure fire way to get balance issues and a sub-par product. BTW, those same people will complain loudly about that too.

Prolly the same people who complained about the Victory Class being in the core and not an ISD and then complained the ISD is $50

I don't get why people are disappointed. We've been wanting Gozantis and GR-75s for ages, and here they are! I'm also happy that there was an announcement, ensuring the game is still alive and kicking. But then, you can't please everyone.

Why is everyone saying they are the same models as rebellion?

I thought we already GAVE them a break? a 12- month break?

I go from release to news. It has been a bit but I am fine with it. I get a more thematic game.

Oh and I can almost do this!

More money for shapeways :P

Providence carrier sounds reeeeeeeeal swell right now.

Why is everyone saying they are the same models as rebellion?

I have no idea. Looking at the rebellion videos and reviews (particularly SU&SD), the plastic used in rebellion looks like FFG's standard board game plastic (think TI3, Forbidden Stars, Imperial Assault, and so on). This is NOT the same plastic as X-Wing or Armada, and add on the painting (even if it's a simple wash and doesn't have as an example the colors on the cargo under the GR-75 they are clearly painted) plus the little nubs necessary to slot them in a base are part of the mold and not just glued on. Also, if you see the rebellion pieces, a lot of them have "runners" on the bottom to allow them to sit flat on the board. Similar in design (and maybe size) to the rebellion pieces, sure. The same? Nope.

I wouldn't be too fussed if it turns out that these 2 flotilla packs are the entire Wave 3 release.

Some say that missing product code numbers may indicate a 4 pack Wave 3 and this may be announced at Adepticon.

I would still be happy with 2 packs in a wave but 2 waves per year. I never thought the Games Workshop release method of only announcing a product 1-2 weeks before it hits the shelves would get my support but I remember the long frustration of the 6-9 month wait for Armada Wave 2 to finally come out. Yes there were production problems and that very slow boat from China but it saps your enthusiasm with the long wait. I would rather 2 smaller waves a year that don't shake up the game too much than one big release.

If the waves are going to be smaller, then I want more frequent waves. I doubt I will be able to stay enthusiastic over a game that only releases 2 ships a year. (Granted it's much too early to jump to this particular conclusion, just saying I hope they do more).

I want at least one true SHIP for each faction, preferably an asymmetrical release to grant the Empire one extra ship to even things up. If this comes in the form of another wave, an "aces" pack, or some other "special" form of release, then so be it.

I really think that this wave (or wave 3.5) will be padded with a ship for each faction and maybe a fighter pack.

with a new film coming we are going to get a ton of named pilots so waiting will be a must. as well as the hope of new (or old EU) capital ships in the film.

Yes, I would not underestimate the difficulty that FFG might have to navigate now that Disney holds the license and the old EU was relegated to 'Legends'. It's made their entire development job a lot trickier I think.

Whoa, whoa, whoa..... why be rational when you can have some drama?

I would like less ships per waves maybe more waves as well but I am also really happy with where armada is right now and would love some new objectives as part of wave 3. you can mix up the game without putting up models. The mark up on new objective cards is also better. Look at guidball they do season plot cards that change yearly. it seems good to do seasonal objectives. maybe not.

Someone in another thread pointed out that the name of the picture for the Wave III announcement is named "revised_armada-wave3-title-image.jpg", so not the whole picture.

If you look, the GR-75 base does look cropped. So there may be something there

I wouldn't mind smaller waves if we got them in a timely fashion. As it stands we are under the assumption we will be stuck with wave 2 for a year and the expansions while awesome in content may not bring too much to the table to increase the longevity of wave 2. Idk I may be wrong. I just hope we see some more news. Either about the possibility of more wave 3 content or wave 4 content before wave 3 is released. I don't think these flotillas will satisfy my prack addiction.

I think we've got more to come, but if not, it's very very possible that part of the release needed to be timed with some date from Disney. If that date got pushed back, FFG needs to go along with it. License partners can be tricky to deal with. Obviously that's speculation, but we know Fantasy Flight wants us to buy their plastic ships. They're going to do everything they can to get our money and satisfaction.

The other thing is...The slower release schedule means I AM buying more of the old waves. If the release window was smaller, I wouldn't have 4 CR-90s.

Meanwhile, I just quietly sit in the corner impatiently waiting for a Wave 6 spoiler article..........

Why the thread necro?
