Type of Whisper Base? (and bases rules)

By kelpie, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Hi

my group is focusing around Whisper Base (the one from Beginner Game and Operation Shadowpoint) and i accidentally gave a look at base description and types on Desperate Allies, so i'm wondering... wich type of base is?

rules for bases are on Desperate Allies? i peeked a look on Stronghold of the Resistence book, but does'nt seems to have rules for handling bases, just a description of some of them. So rules are only on DA?

Have you got a copy of Far Horizons?

It's more to do with businesses but that would work well as an accessory with Desperate Allies.

Have a listen to the Order 66 podcasts on that subject it should be a great help!

Definitely check out The Order 66 podcast episodes 59 and 60 (in particular ep 60). They hold a wealth of info on using bases in your games.

So on to the rules. The only place there are rules for bases at the moment (i hope that they add to them in future supplements) is the Desperate Allies book. For simplicity sake i would make the base that the PC's acquire at the end of the beginner box a Standard unmodified Core Base. The reason i say this is not because the base doesn't have the facilities, many of the upgrades would exist there. The problem the PC's have is lack of staff, they essentially have a handful of very reluctant Imperial officers and data analysts, and possibly a couple of Storm Troopers. But none of them will be helpful.

So then each module from the Operation Shadowpoint pdf would allow the PC's to add a relevant upgrade, this represents getting the systems back online and recruiting new Rebels to join them and operate the facilities.

Ok thanks for the advice

hi,

so I also have a Round that is playing a Rebell Cell on Onderon and I have stated out the Whisper Base a Followed: (some Spoilers for the Beginner Game and Operation Shadowpoint)

Name: Whisper Base

Core Function: Listening Post

Focus: Surveillance

Location: Onderon Jungle

Upgrade:

Increased Focus: I gave my players a Increased Focus upgrade for acquiring the maintenance Droids, another one for installing a Comm Relay on Dxun to Increase the Communication Range of the Listening Post

Enhenced Security: It is a underground base and I have stated in my Group, that is is located in an Old Mandalorian Outpost, therefore I have given it the Armor Upgrade.

NPC Ally: The Analyst is clearly a NSC Ally, my PCs also have a Twilek Commando that leads the Bases Security Force and a Wookie Medic.

Medical Facility: I have stated, that there is a small Infirmory in the base, but since it has no Bacta Tanks, it does not count as a Medical Facility Upgrade

Hanger & Repair Bay: I have stated that the Whisper Base has a Rating 1 Upgrade. 10 of the Silhouette for Starships with max of 4 in the Landing Pad, 20 for Land Vehicles in the Garage

Armory: The is a small Armory on the Base, but it does not qualify as an Armory Upgrade. My Players have gotten an Armory as part of the Core Rules Adventure, where they captured a Freighter full of Weapon Shipments for the Rebels. They could keep a part of the Shipment for the Whisper Base, therefore the now have a Armory.

Training Facility: There is a Gym and an improvised Shooting Range, but nothing to facilitate the large Scale Training necessary to qualify as a Training Facility.

Laboratory: No Laboratory

Command & Control Center: This is definitely available in the Whisper Base.

Research Library: They Probably have access to some Imperial Records kept in the Whisper Base, but I would not qualify this as a Research Library.

I think all of the Upgrades could be archived if the Players et their mind to it, but at the point the Characters capture the Base, I would rate it:

Upgrade:

Increased Focus: 0

Enhenced Security: Armor Upgrade

NPC Ally: 0

Medical Facility: 0

Hanger & Repair Bay: Rating 1:10 of the Silhouette for Starships with max of 4 in the Landing Pad, 20 for Land Vehicles in the Garage

Armory: No

Training Facility: No

Laboratory: No

Command & Control Center: Yes

Research Library: No

I was picturing the shuttle landing bay being able to lower underground to hide its existence just not read anything to support that.

Nice to see some confirmation on that!
