Quantity of cards on Regional Kits

By Hijodecain, in X-Wing

Hi to all, first of all I would like to introduce myself as a Spanish player. And introduce the situation here in Spain, here we are having a big community of X-Wing players and tournaments have grown a lot. On the sad side of the coin we have only 6 regional tournaments this year (same than last year), and all of them are going to be full.

Since the community have grown a lot and even more since TFA. As usual, Regional kits have 64 alternative art cards. But we are having tournaments of up to 200 players (already paid, so we don't expect so much missing people the tournament day), the smaller right now is announced as 80 slots (but is not fixed yet).

I don't know what is happening on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, but here in Spain the prizes are far from enough to most of the players playing the tournament.

Are you having a similar situation on USA / UK / Germany / France...?

Top 16 prizes are OK, but at least all the players attending the Tournament should get an alternative art card. This are my thoughts.

Regards,

David.

I don't think that you should get a card for attending really - as nice as it would be.

Regionals in the UK makes at my local store last year - 79ish, and expecting more this year. 200 people, you'd hope they would have 2 kits.

Two things, it's a top 64 prize, not an attendance prize. It just so happened some places only had that many attending. Second if it is that big of a deal, have the hosting party email FFG OP and see if they can at least get a second set of top 64 cards sent.

A small token prize for simply attending is not a bad idea; it rewards players for the effort of offering competition even if they lose. People are less likely to walk away with only disappointment.

When I pay 15€ just to attend a Regional I expect to receive a small present. Not just so much, just a small present. An Alternative card is nice, a small token (disabled weapon, tractor beam...) is also nice, I just want a small detail. I've always think that 64 alternative art cards assume the roll, like 17 cards on Store does and 32 also on Store does.

I've been able on the past (last year -2015- we were about 120 players in Madrid, previous year I don't remember -2014-, this year 200 -2016-) always to be on the top 64, but people after one year paying 15€ and getting nothing the next year don't repeat.

So, since the game is getting so popular and tournaments are getting bigger I recommend to increase the quantity of low level prizes just to play.

It's been 64 since the start? I'm guessing they thought this would be plenty for everybody, and they clearly didn't anticipate that the game would grow as big as it has. While I'm not sure I would expand the size of the base set (lots and lots of tournaments have far fewer than 64 players; I've never even been to one with as many as 30), I think it should be possible for the TO to order more promo cards to meet the demand.

If I recall correctly the Milwaukee and Chicago regional were both able to get additional cards from ffg to cover thier 100+ players.

Denver too. The 'top 64' cards are participation cards traditionally. Maybe they changed it this year. It would be a shame if they did, as people would probably not be as eager to pay $25+ for a day of losing x-wing and no consolation prize. I personally know quite a few folks that would pass without a participation card. I wish I could say I won't be going (as it is too long a day and seldom fun by the end) but the siren call of those dice is undeniable. Stormtrooper white....mmmmm......
