Manaroo and weapon engineer

By Off Jenkins, in X-Wing Rules Questions

don't forget the Red target locks go as well, really fun for fighting against ATC Vader or the V1 Inquisitor

I think that's definitely the RAI, but RAW I'm not so sure:

If an effect removes a blue or red target lock token from a ship, the matching red or blue target lock token is also removed (unless the blue target lock is assigned to another ship).

There's an exception for moving a blue token, but not for red tokens.

So you move the tokens, but as soon as the red ones are removed from Manaroo, those locks are broken.

As soon as any red target lock tokens are moved, Manaroo doesn't have to worry about them. But they're not broken, just transferred to some unlucky schmuck that happened to be flying with Manaroo. Remember target locks are an elastic thing. Once you've got a ship locked, extending the range can't break that lock.

But because there's no range stipulated on who receives the transferred tokens, the smart move would be to assign them to a friendly ship that's out of range of the ship with the blue target lock token.

In a similar vein of thought, what happens if there is a red target lock on Manaroo belonging to an enemy ship with Weapon Engineer, which also happens to have a red target lock on a ship that Manaroo wants to transfer her tokens too?

Presumably the enemy ship has to discard one of those pairs of Target Locks.

That would be my take on it as well as Weapons Engineer limits you to 1 per enemy ship.

Yeah I've now looked to see when/where I'd use it. There isn't much choice to be fair. Usually better options.

Kanan on the Ghost likes 2 of them though. 3 tokens to use for attack and to reduce the enemy's attacks.

As if anyone's going to run Kanan pilot when Kanan crew exists.

trying to make HER useful, but still no chance, being pretty sure about the answer, thanks guys

I've seen several Kanan with double recspec plus advanced sensors lists now. Typically paired with Biggs. The ability is very powerful.

Are you kidding? Her ability is one of the most powerful in the game. Take a recspec on her and an R4 agromech. It's phenomenal. A key ship just got stressed? Pass it a couple focuses! Did enemy ships with ordinance just lock on to manaroo? Sorry TIE bombers, just passed all your locks to that z95 on the other side of the board. With the right play on initiative you can respond to things like glitterstimm. You can pass a TL over to a ship with ordinance. And there's also the mindlink games (oh look omega leader, passed your TL away, regained focus and got a TL with R4. Suck it!). You can supercharge a HWK with moldy crow. The fact that it has no range requirement is amazing. And all this for 2 points more than a contract scout!

manaroo doesn't gain a TL after pass the focus token away. R4 agromech is "when attacking" while the assignment of focus tokens is "at the start of combat phase".

You're right, but I meant that you can pass away the enemy TL, regain the Focus with mindlink and then, when attacking, gain a TL by spending the focus.
