Let's take a breathe please

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey friends I understand a lot of people are upset and feel justified, let's take a breathe and hang in there.

First wave 3 will cost about 80.00 retail for 4 ships which is not bad,

Second we still have a lot of year left before its done maybe something else will come along,

Third new is still better then nothing,

Fourth maybe Disney has a timing thing for the New Movie they can't talk about yet.

Last it gives us something fun to talk about. Let's be civilized in our distain.

Honestly, I feel like the flotillas will make it feel more like a FLEET and less like a task force.

Prospective after watching my wife walk through cancer and now have an un cureable eye condition that is causing her to go blind at 27 with little chance of watching my 18 month grow up and having over 10k in medical debt from people telling us there is no hope, getting a smaller wave is not terrible.

I don't want Force Awakens stuff. I want my **** Vindicator and Interdictor and Liberty. XD

On the plus side you can now have two Cr90s on one base for fun.

Yup

Be civilized? Our brand is PANIC.

Also I am really enjoying the anger, ruin, and despair. I rarely get a weekday off of work and therefore don't get to see the forums explode in real time. Oh man some people have some very strong FEELINGS.

I feel like most are dealing in absolutes. This is awesome or this is a trainwreck. I'm on the meh side of things personally with Wave 3. I'm also on an endless buffet of OT at work so mentally I'm pretty turned off.

I have no problem being excited about other things for the summer. Armada is my preferred Prack© experience, but I have no problem loving X Wing or building a new computer with the money not spent on these games.

It's funny to see the meltdown though. And I'm glad we got some Armada news, despite how I may feel about it.

I skipped over the rage-threads because I don't have the time to read through them.

I love it. Gives me something to read while on conference calls. people complained there were no updates, now people complain about the updates.

@Cubanboy- I am so sorry you have to go through that. I can't even imagine.

I am constantly amazed at how gamers (myself included sometimes!) can feel so passionately about something that is just a fun luxury item. When I find myself wrapped up in the heat of the moment it's helpful to step back and think "These are plastic toys that I, a grown man, am fortunate enough to have free time to play with".

This isn't life altering, and we're gettin' some new space ships to make space ship noises with!

Why do people think this is the only release? The Game hasn't even been out for a Year yet and we just received the news for wave 3. That's actually 4 releases in one year's time if you include the release of the Core Set. Think about that for a moment, when did X-Wing have 4 releases in one year? When has any game had 4 releases in one year, from its very beginning too?

Calm down and play some games.

Also Armada is now the third most popular Miniatures game being sold today, right behind Warhammer 40K and if that doesn't say anything to you then you are not listening.

Steve, I take my fun luxury items seriously Steve! OK? Don't diminish my desire for Local Game Store tabletop dominance with this "Its just a game" hyperbole Steve...ok?...Steeeve. Do you think I LIKE reading rules for hours on end in the tub, Steve? No Steeeeeve, its a frikken personal and moral duty to spread Rules As Written to the unlearned masses, Steve! OK?

Gawsh, the NERVE of some **** people!

Sumunumbish! Now look what you did, I dropped my darned RRG in the water. /fist

I am neither ecstatic nor outraged by this announcement. I do feel it would have been perfect as a part of a larger release. I know plenty of people are holding out hope for further announcements. At this point I figure one of 3 things will happen:

1: some time within the next 3-6 months the other half of wave 3 will be announced during a Con or after a news release etc.

2: Wave 4 will be announced for a Christmas release

3: Q3/4 will roll around and the Wave 3 Flotilla will float into our game shops.

Taking bets... Which one is your money on!?

Thanks for adding some perspective Cubanboy, but I am really sorry to hear about your situation and hope you have the strength to carry the load you've been given.

Most of us don't have a clue how lucky we are -- and I am including myself in that category.

All the best to you and your family.

Thank you guys for the well wishes, it means a lot. It's good sometimes to take a step back and breathe and put life into prospective.

On a side note I am trying to get the Mrs to play some Armada and the big ships are over whelming to her. Sqauds are very simple in nature move or shoot, so if the floats are simple then it helps so here's to something easy at least.

Also this is not at Mega Man Legends 3 level of rage in my heart anyway....

Best post on these forums in a while.

Well done, Mr. Cubanboy.

There is also a secret upside: with the rate of progress of technology in the modern era, there is a real chance you are married to a cyborg 10 years from now, as your wife may have bionic eyes. Netrunner meets reality... maybe FFG will have to remove the first F from their name.

What's shocked me the most about the community response to the new wave is how harsh some of the forum responses are (again, I hope it's just a loud minority of forum goers). I can understand why some people would be disappointed, but to say things like "Fantasy Flight doesn't care about the game"? That's just irrational thinking.

There is a staggering amount of people who are saying things like "I wanted more/different ships", "I need more/different ships", "I deserve more/different ships", "Me, me, me".

FFG is a business that provides fun for it's player base, but it's a business. They don't "owe" any single person on the forums anything. On top of that, there's five other Star Wars games they have to work on as well, plus over a dozen or so other games they want to keep making content for. Just because they didn't include that one ship someone wanted to see does not mean by any means that they've given up or are ignoring Armada.

People also saying that it's been "over a year since we've gotten anything" also seem to forget that Wave II was delivered back in November. That was only four months ago. If they're referring to the last announcement, that was 11 months ago (not a full year), and Wave II would have been delivered earlier in 2015 if it hadn't been for the dockworker strike.

Flotillas are a really cool addition to the game in my opinion, regardless of whether or not it's the only part of Wave III. They add a support strategy to Armada that doesn't exist currently.

Am having a breathe.

The more I think about Wave III, the more comfortable I am with both the idea that these are the only two expansions and how they're going to impact the game.

Let's be honest, expecting an expansion to the game to the size and tune of Wave II every few months is both a bit unrealistic and probably unhealthy for the game in the long run. While I feel like much of the disappointment comes from the amount of time that passed in between wave announcements (thinking that it meant something big was on the way), getting another wave like Wave II would change things SO much. Adding new options to the game while keeping the building blocks of each fleet the same is a PERFECT place for armada right now.

The only thing that would disappoint me about the future of this game is if we go another year with no news to be followed by a similar wave. I don't think this is likely, but even if that happens I will still love where we are at with the game.

Cubanboy - Truly upset to hear you're going through a rough time at the moment. Hang in there dude! I can still remember the joy with which you announced the birth of your little one over on the X-Wing forum and that memory made me a little bit sadder as I read your post. Real life problems really put first world, nerd-rage, plastic tat problems into perspective sometimes... This time is one of them. Hope to be able to have a nice 'chat' with you in six months time when we'll all get to play with our new Armada toys.

Edit - Apart for all those that have rage-quit by then! :P
