No Veterans with Wave 8

By exinfris, in X-Wing

Yeah but, what if he, like, got some bad info?

I'm not trying to poke what's obviously a sore spot, but it really is an important distinction. FFG hasn't advertised an arrival date for Imperial Veterans at all. In fact, they've done the opposite: it's consistently been listed well behind Wave 8 on their "Upcoming" page, and as of right now it's still listed as "At The Printer".

It seems as if you really did get bad information from the distributor. I'm sorry it's been so frustrating for you, but it isn't something FFG did.

What FFG has done, though, is promise a first quarter release date for Imperial Veterans, which leaves them with exactly two weeks to get it out to the shops. Of course, us veteran players know that FFG is notoriously unreliable at best and an outright liar at worst, but it really is unreasonable to expect less seasoned players to know that the company has never ever been able to release on time.

Anyone coming from, say, Games Workshop or Wizards of the Coast, will expect "first quarter" to mean exactly that, not "maybe second but probably third".

Yeah, I wish they wouldn't promise dates until they know the final, definite dates; it does seem like their 'quarter' estimates are usually around half a year out.

E: that being said, it's not like GW have promised release dates for anything much in advance for years, so using them as an example is maybe not the best choice.

i already did it. :-(

MM and CSI are both pretty good about breaking up orders after the fact. So you can try contacting them and split the order. You might lose out on free shipping though.

I wish I had Imperial Veterans. That and Rebel Veterans hopefully with something for the X-Wing (just so I can stop hearing how much it is in need of one) and the E-Wing.

I think Imperial Veterans will be awesome. I hope there is a Rebel Veterans and it is just as good.

Edit: apparently B-U-T-T-HURT is a bad word on these forums.

Maybe not, but I'm not the only one to hear the same thing from distributors.

The owner of the store I went to, as well as the owner of another store a few miles away.

However two stores a few miles apart likely use the same distributor.

Which is the original source of bad information.

My guess is your distributor got confused and thought the tie sf and xwing t70 were the veterans being released along side wave 8. Which ffg claims they were even though it was released like 3 months apart and makes no sense.

In my defense, my local store and it's distributor has been spot on until now concerning release date for X Wing and Armada. So I've had no reason to FFG's site to see what is new, and when it's being released.

So excuse the fk out of me for not being completely up to date on things. Besides, I work 60+ hours a week and don't get a lot of time to troll the Internet.

I, too, am disappointed in how long it will take to arrive.

Guys, is there really a reason to bash him for trusting his local store?

Cull the weak. Make an example of him so others don't make the same mistake? Social Darwinism, bro.

This isn't the 40k forums. One of the reasons why I like X-wing so much is that the forums and players tend to be pretty laid back.

I dunno. If it was as simple as that you think this thread would have been sorted out on the first page.

As it's already at 3 4 pages, there's obviously more to this. :P :P :P :P :P :P

But I think, maybe there was some bad info involved.

While I agree, and it is why I like these fourms, I'm pretty sure that TaeSWXW was being sarcastic.

I don't mind people saying silly things IRL. It's vital that we be civil in person as that is where the community really exists, it's where Fly Casual happens.

The internet, however, is where you go to get hard.*

Yeah, but not everyone likes that. It's nice to have a place where there aren't *those* people there to bash you down. You just want to freakin' know or ask something and you don't want to be trolled, or at least what seems like trolling to you. This game has great players and it's the attitude of those on this forum that help make it a good spot. Bashing someone for getting bad info isn't a nice thing in my mind. Our forum is above it.

I would agree, but it's also human nature to respond in kind. So considering the tone of the OP and how he was blaming FFG for something they never did. It's human nature to respond somewhat harshly.

Which isn't to say that it's acceptable and it is something should rise above.

I'm not saying that forum can't be a nice place but if we don't self police then you end up watering down the quality of the conversation. At some point you have to say: "everything below this level of common knowledge can be googled and it is a waste of the forum's time."

It's like merging onto the highway. It is the responsibility of the merger to get up to traffic speeds - not the responsibility of traffic to accommodate the merger (although that is what happens in Minnesota and drives me up the wall).

I check with the local store on my way home from work once a week, and the owner calls his two distributors weekly.

Yes, I could have gone to their website as everyone keeps telling me, and from now on I will, although I normally don't have time to due to my work schedule.

Somehow stopping into a store once a week is less constrictive on your time schedule than the internet?

OP said that he talked to two stores, one of which has two distributors. If the distributor was saying it would be released why should OP doubt it. Maybe he shouldn't have raged at FFG but it didn't merit this many users posting the same response. Frank isn't going to see this point and be upset, FFG doesn't give two ***** if a customer is mad, and they certainly don't need forum users to defend them. Why gang up on something that literally required one post to answer.

I'll politely disagree to offer up a different scenario. Harsh reactions can drive away people from the forums. You end up with a smaller user base and less "new blood". If you take the time to be decent to someone, they tend to enjoy the experience and show up more...to read more...to get caught up on things. Then, there is another voice that can add to the discussion. It can be a new, well versed, and unique voice that can help make these forums awesome. It is the variety and unique aspects of seeing this game in a different light that can make this place awesome.

You can always just ignore any posts that you don't want to bother responding to, but I feel it's actually detrimental to say something negative. It even takes more effort to say something negative.

Also, if someone responds to the guy decently and he sticks around, maybe he will be the one to respond to the next person that asks an easy question. You won't even have to

Part of what makes a good forum is how it treats new members. Yes, they ask questions that other people already know. To me, it's the largest hallmark of what makes a good forum.

FFG has been advertising that Imperial Veterans would be released the same day as the rest of Wave 8.

Nope, they were not.

it's just players being super-ironic on length of W8 being shipped xD

I think that not only was some involved, but that he might also have gotten some of it.

The reason for the harsh reaction is not that he was misinformed but that his first instinct was to blindly attack ffg like a child throwing a temper tantrum and even when proved wrong he got defensive and continued to throw blame everywhere but himself.

But you don't argue with a child, there's no point, You state why they are wrong, roll your eyes, and let them grow up. Again, it's not like FFG cares if one person is butt blasted, if they even noticed this thread then at most they reached into our wallets to dry their tears.

Perhaps the tone here represents some degree of "twisted knickers fatigue"... in the past hour I've read threads bashing ffg for imp vets (which I'm DYING for, btw), reducing tractor beams, and other things. If we are patient one day our ship will (quite literally) come in.
