English professor?
Edited by Orion44Sorry last post was TLDR...don't even click. Cliff Notes: the release is crap and we all got crapped on.
@hoothtooth: Maybe you're not at the level to that level in chess where the only why to get better is to memorize endless opening theory....pages and pages and pages from a book much thicker than the bible. Very boing to get look back and find you go beat on move 7 just because you didn't momorize correct move order of an obscure line that the opponent focused on. Bobby Fisher had the same complaint about chess so I guess there might be something to that complaint. In chess you get better and better until you hit a brick wall and you never get over that wall because the more opening theory you know puts you in a class of people who are attempting to memorize more. It becomes an endless cycle. With all the euro games out there, I just don't see the need to ever play chess again. Gaming is so much better dthese days with the plethora of games out with unique, complex decision making that scratch the chess itch much better.
A fair point. But then I'm struggling to see how your original comment...
. I gave up chess years ago when I got to 1750+\- because I didn't want to explore are the minutia.
... Has any bearing on the argument you're trying to make against FFG. I, like many others I imagine, assumed that you were arguing the point that without constant expansion releases there is little else to maintain interest in Armada. I'm assuming now you were actually arguing that, like high level Chess, Armada now appears to be a game you've lost interest in. From all the arguments you've posited it would appear the sole reason for this loss of interest is the fact that FFG have released two twenty quid expansions (that potentially add a new level of play) and that was not what you were expecting. Whilst everyone is entitled to their own (even somewhat knee-jerk) opinions it is the 'rabble rousing' nature of your complaint that has riled people over the last couple of days. Oh, and...
Bobby Fisher had the same complaint about chess so I guess there might be something to that complaint.
Bobby Fischer also said that "All I want to do, ever, is play Chess" and "Chess is life". He was also anti-semitic and upset most of the countries he lived in at one time or another with his ill-informed comments and opinions. I'm not sure he's the best individual to be representing your opinion in a rational argument!
Come for the salt, stay for the gifs...
Of course, after all this salt I feel like my kidneys are failing. Seriously, this stuff is crazier than the comments I would get after playing face shaman in hearthstone...
No they aren't, that was a lie. I apologize.
Edited by FatherTurinYep Bobby fisher was a real ass, but the man's personal affairs should not warrant what he says about a game--especially considering the level he attained. He quite because of the opening theory. He hated it and argued for crazy new ways around it if I am remembering correctly--something like alternate random openings positions or something. I could be wrong. I think we are old enough and smart enough and can seperate the man's other affairs from his chess thoughts so that is just really a cheap shot at me. Low below the belt blow. Even got a thumbs up for the low blow. That seritonin is kicking for Lyraeus .
Edited by AdmiralNelsonThe reason was wave II gave an expectation of a certain level of support. When they don't communicate well, or at all, we infer things. I am just as mad at the tiny little release for 2016 as the lack of communication to make an informed decision. I would not have gotten into the game to such a level if I thought the support was tapering off. I would not have attempted to grow the game in my area because like others I prefer a constantly shifting Meta. My point is the rest of you who are fine with what many of us consider is BS seem to think it wrong that we like different ways of playing and deride us for not appreciating all the suttle nuances and wanting to tweak things here and there. Seriously, it is cool you guys like that approach and I respect that. Awesome, more power to you. However, to continue to completely disrespect the plastic crack addicts because we like a different way of playing and thought based on wave II that level of support would continue is rather unfair. We poured our time and effort into a reasonable expectation. When enough people finally realize that this is all they get for the year and get past the hope of photo cropping tea leafs, you'll be annoying to death by the out cry. I'll be gone by then and won't even come back for the pleasure of an I told you so, because I honestly will not derive any pleasure in being right about this terrible, unfortunate wrong. Many feel they got ripped off and more will follow--probably wasting less time than me being vocal about it. Instead, many in the more fledgling Armada communities than yours will wither and die. Since I believe that this marks the end of Armada in my area and others, I feel I have wasted a ton of time and am not willing to waste more. I am more pissed about the time than the money to be honest. Since none of this concerns the nuanced players who can take any game with what is has and enjoy it, this should really not concern you and the others to the point of sling mud. This is not a put down on the way you enjoy the game so I question why some of you take it so personal--beyond the obvious part of being apart of ganging up on someone to feel good about being apart of something.
We also feel entitled because we are the sales force driving the game. Without us pushing the game along with the rest of you who enjoy the endless nuances likely, or may not, have any support in the future. You may just get a continued stream of small releases once a year so FF can say that didn't technically ado don you. Hey, if you're fine with that cool, but many of us are not.
Edited by AdmiralNelsonI can't speak for anyone else, but when you drop a racial/ethnic slur in the topic of one of your posts, you are kind of asking for a brutal dressing down, Internet style.

Are you referring to his derogatory term for Roma?
Reasonable people can be forgiven for not knowing that this is a racial slur, especially in contexts that do not have Roma as a significant local minority.
But, as a former professor, he really should know better.
[...]However, to continue to completely disrespect the plastic crack addicts because we like a different way of playing and thought based on wave II that level of support would continue is rather unfair.[...]
Dear Professor Admiral,
We're not getting on your case for any of that. We're having fun with you because of your deranged rants.
Wait. . . Did he just say that his groups is the endless sales support of the game? That makes no sense to me. . . I have a TON of ships from both sides and have spend a lot of money on this game while being a nuanced player, yet I still don't see how a wave update means the death of Armada in your area.
Maybe it is the aspergers in me but what does new waves have to do with this game? I can garentee that you have not tried every build out there. In fact, I suspect that you try them once and think you got the hang of it right then and there. Which is a misconception because each list is different, each time that list is played the variables change. Deployment changes, obstacle placement changes, etc.
People don't identify themselves as Gypsies. Gypsies is a term given to people who steal and con and are not a race. Just like anyone can be a thief anyone who cons people can be called gypsies. The term has moved beyond race and simply means conned, robbed, etc.. in this day and age. But nice attempt to deflect and claim injury when none was intended or dealt.
If I am somehow wrong and the majority of the non-forum people still think that is still bad form and the word has not evolved past what it was year ago, I apologize. Several words have evolve and some still remain off limits. Maybe one of us didn't get the memo. Maybe your a PV fellow who thinks the redskin should change their name. Maybe you right if so, maybe not but that is not what we are discussing here. It is just a cheap shot from the peanut gallery offering no substance and deflecting FF responsibility to its community to put out more than a couple of small token things for a year or more.
May I suggest finding something useful to argue since I'll concede on the spot to you the word Gypped if in offends your delicate sense of .....whatever.
Wave II implied real support and not token. If they planned on the BS they should have said something. Oh, should I apologize to the Bull as well...is it animal right day and missed that memo to. Enjoy the seritonin, get some thumbs to get some more.
why would I wan't to try all the builds. I am bored with some of the ships, period. Can't you get that we don't want to try every build or half of them. The ships get old, the admirals get old, the upgrades get old.

I think that might be the disconnect for you, man. Some of us just enjoy playing the game, even using similar or the same ships, I've been playing since September about 3 times a week or so average and haven't gotten bored with Wave 2 yet, cause playing the game is still fun. I understand if you get more out of the game getting new shiny stuff than playing the game and actually flying the ships, but I think a lot of us will just have to agree to disagree with you there.
Dude, capitalizing makes it even worse, and screams intentional. There is literally nothing of substance in your "argument" to respond to, and respecting one of the few cultures that has been brutalized as much as mine is not being "PC," it's being human and having solidarity with fellow (historical) outcasts. Since you clearly don't understand the reality of offensive words or discourse, I'm going to lay off and let anyone here who is Roma comment if they want to. Since this is all "too sensitive" for you, I look forward to the post where you drop the n-word.
Edit: your post also shows that you clearly know the origin of the term and just don't care. There are really nasty words that people use to describe my culture/ethnicity. I certainly don't identify myself with those words, but it's clear that the people who use them are referring to me or others of my culture/ethnicity. It perpetuates a cycle of dehumanizing perceived outsiders, and it is just wrong.

Mate, if you're bored of the ships, upgrades and admirals that are in this game already, then this game was never for you.
This is Star Wars. If you're already bored of Vader, Tarkin, Star Destroyers, X Wings and Han Solo, then I don't think there was any way this game was going to keep your attention over the long haul.
Me? They could never release another ship again, and I'll still be playing this game in my retirement home (unless a better SW fleet battles game comes along) because it's Star Wars, and I love Vader, Tarkin, Star Destroyers, X Wings and Han Solo and will never get bored of them.
I literally don't understand people who claim to love this game and love Star Wars, yet don't want to play the game because there's no new toys.

I just checked this morning, I really wish I had the free cash to buy on E-bay right now.I could double my fleet and then some for a couple hundred dollars. Of course Feldher would then get the rest of my money for more storage.

If you just play the same thing or same list, sure you might be bored but that is your fault.
You are bored with some of the ships? I may just be some uneducated upstart but even I have found that each ship has new and exciting uses in Wave 2.
So, I guess we found the issue then. You, AdmiralNelson and your entitlement are the issue here. Not the game.

Another pointless attack. It is too easy to throw insults and less time consuming than adding something meaningful.
Enjoy your cheap, stupid serotonin kick
Who I am, or was, has no barring on this argument. The writing is legible enough to read and that is all that is required for a forum post.
However, if you must know. I use to teach national government and another course that had one writing requirement out of three require to graduate. The writing was only one component of the course. I don't claim to be an expert at grammar and certainly not spelling, but if I take my time I do know what I'm doing. I don't take my time on here as that would be a ridiculous, epic waste of time. I am typing on an iPad mini or android phone 100% of the time that auto corrects. Msqeeze these posts in between real life. I am typing these things as fast as a teenager texting and not looking back to clean up a single thing. Words sometimes won't be plural and commas missed. So what. If you can't read well enough to breeze past mistake, I suggest less Armada and time on the forums and more reading. Can I recommend The Economist as a start. See period no question mark and I am no going back to fix it. Your brain after a certain age auto corrects well if you read enough. To write fast, I must take shortcuts. In a sense, I am like a shark always swimming forward. I am at the park with my kid right now so what you see is what you get. I am not great at typing on an iPad because my fingers are fat and I miss the keys. Give me a keyboard and that is a different story. Old dog I guess. The text box is also rather small and since this isn't formal writing, I also bend some rules for the sake of speed.
The point is that you get the point of what I am saying just fine. You are just deflecting and looking to an insult. Pointing out someone's gammer demonstrates poor form on the Internet, or anywhere for that matter, that isn't work. Another silly putdown from the peanut gallery just shows you have no class or meaningful criticism. It is just a quick way to pile on and get your serotonin buzz by being apart of the group tearing me down. You're full of sound and fury, but signify nothing. This is stream of thought stuff and not an essay or formal. It is ridiculous to attempt to demand such time be spent on an Internet forum crossing my Ts and dotting my Is. I am not writing an essay and these sorts of stupid attacks from the grammar tools that I should spend time cleaning up my forum writing to prove something is rather ridiculous.
Just another form a trolling. It is quick, easy, and not creative. Worst of all. it is not funny. Be funny. A lot of the mud slinging is at least funny and makes people laugh. But I guess your too lazy for that...or just not funny.
Boredom. We are waiting for wave 4.Why are we still feeding the troll?
Yep, you already need wave 4 news because wave three was $hit. The problem is you'll have to wait eight months for that.
Personal curiosity Nelson...what subject do you teach? Not bashing or set to bash..just curious.
I taught national gov and enviro policy for 6 years. I also designed their future remote, robotic observatory.
Edited by AdmiralNelsonGypsies is a term given to people who steal and con and are not a race.
The term 'Gypsy' can be a racial slur and stems from the fact that Europeans thought that the original Roma, who actually originated in northern India, were from Egypt. Whether you are aware the term is a racial slur or not once it's pointed out the civilised thing to do is stop using it, not defend or attempt to justify your previous use of it. If you are a proper gentleman you might even throw in an apology for good measure.
Trolling...English professor?
And while we're at it this is not 'trolling' in terms of it's usage in reference to the internet.
" In Internet slang , a troll ( / ˈ t r oʊ l / , / ˈ t r ɒ l / ) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, [1] extraneous , or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup , forum, chat room , or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response [2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion, [3] often for their own amusement." - Wikipaedia
I'm just saying...

Well, as I mentioned earlier, it's a term that's aimed at the Roma/Romani people, of whom there are around a million in the United States. There is a cultural/identity tie there, and so it is an equivalent term to the one FatherTurin is using as an example. Maybe he identifies as Roma, who knows.
But what aspect of national politics did you research?
