WAVE III ANNOUNCEMENT

By WWPDSteven, in Star Wars: Armada

Grumpy? Not in the slightest. This week has been delightfully silly on the forum.

Maybe they'll announce more wave 3 at adepticon?

This has probably been the greatest week in misplaced internet rage on any forum on the internet that I have seen. And I have seen many. Don't get me started on Battlestar Galactica.

You sure tried to bite my head off earlier

¿Que?

I think you probably projected a tone onto my words that wasn't intended to be there. I was thinking of it more along the lines of schoolyard banter.

I think it's time you boys took it out back and let the fists do the talking.... FIGHT!

While I regretfully agree it's hard to keep a game growing without a fairly constant supply of new shinies. That doesn't mean there has to be X number of them per year to keep things going.

Let's say these are all there will be for Wave 3. They're still new shinies... There is no need to put out X number of $50+ dollar expansions per year.

The game will not die if people don't have to spend $250 a year on it.

But from FFG's stance they'd much rather have people doing that then not. So that means if this is all we'll see for Wave 3, there's a reason behind it, a reason that FFG may not be able to talk about because they're still waiting for LFL's approval on something. Perhaps the two missing catalog numbers are things from Rogue One and they just can't say anything yet.

We have a Pattern of Hope here...

"They probably havn't announced Wave 3 because they're waiting on TFA to get into Theatres..."

"They probably havn't announced Wave 3 because they're waiting on Rebels to have its Mid-Season."

"They probably havn't announced Wave 3 because they're waiting on Rebels End Season."

"They probably havn't announced more for Wave 3 because they're waiting on Rogue One."

---

And I'm sure we'll say the same about Episode VIII.

Oh, We already have.

"They probably havn't announced anything further because they're waiting on Episode 8 to have real Fleets shown."

....

I'm sure we'll be right at some stage... :D

don't forget about the adepticon ones!

It might totally be the case that they had planned on not releasing any info until Adepticon, but they noticed how restless the natives were getting.

But anyway, while I do hope for more than the flotillas, I definitely like the flottillas, and I'm fine with a slow release schedule. My brain can't keep up with X-Wing anymore, and this has been the case since Summer. (Of course, that's as much because I've been focused more on Armada, than that I've been overwhelmed with stuff from X-Wing.)

I also want them to minimize some of the relative imbalances (under/over-costed components) or structural meta-equilibria (where the range of stuff available offers a very small number of optimal build archetypes). More playtesting and a slower release-schedule would help that.

Then again, maybe their release schedule is calibrated based on what the wider market will sustain.

I like beating him with my little plastic ships though. . .

Well, his revenge is deservedly sweet. He was pretty sullen and morose for months over the summer and early fall, when all his best-laid plans withered under sustained fire by Victorys, Glads, and Rhymer's great balls. I don't begrudge the comeuppance. A lesser person would have given up on the game.

Now, if he could only learn to be as gracious in victory as I was...

This is me. Exactly. I'm at an X-Wing Store Championship on Sunday and I'm seriously thinking about taking an all PS2 naked Rebel Swarm just so I don't have to worry about my own upgrades as everyone is going to be running the new wave eight stuff and it's going to make my head hurt!

I hear you. I did pick up my Inquisitor yesterday. I've been forced by circumstances to sit out pretty much all of the X-Wing store championships this season. At the same time, I do have meta-trepidation, which I probably just would have solved by flying a bunch of old TIE bombers.

Anyway, I think that the Wave 2 meta in Armada is still developing. The main function of a wave (other than making money for FFG) is to shake up a stale meta, but our meta is not stale.

well put

Yeah that... also keep in mind that as of wave II we pretty much have everything to play the big battles shown in the original trilogy. We can do a ROTJ end battle with the hero ships... right... now.

They are deciding on what to do next. Wave III is safe for the future for now.

;)

Oddsbottkins ; I believe that everyone has been blinded by the obvious...There is one vessel that alot have been anticipating while others have litterally dismissed...2 slots unaccounted for and 1 epic vessel that will be released in 2 parts... "Fanfare"...SUPER STAR DESTROYER !!!!

If this is just part of the wave I think it would have been better to not make this the first preview. If this is the entire wave I have serious worries about the game's future.

Why?

Game is fantastic now.

Game is getting an interesting addition that will add depth to choices.

What am I missing?

A wave 3 half the size of wave 2 and a wave of only subcapital ships in a game that is meant to be focused on fleet actions this early is not a good sign IMO.

If it was a few waves down the line it wouldn't be so bad and I lack the packs as part of a larger wave but with as many capital ships both canon and non-canon left to choose from to add to the game if FFG feels two subcapital packs is a worthwhile wave they can't have much hope for the game's future.

And the more packs out the more choices players have in building their forces thus more packs can't be a bad thing. At least noy until there are a couple of dozen packs per side.

Imo, this is like the most canonical decision they could have done. Let's think about it... What capital ships are actually in the OT?

Oh wait, the imperials have ONE in the Armada size: the ISD. Wow. Wave 2, already ded game. (Then the SSD and the Deathstar.)

On the rebel side we are still missing Winged Liberties and the Transports. Wow. Wave3. Got it!

I think it makes sense. Gozanti's for the other side are canon now too.

I really wish the movies had more different imperial ships though. The Armada ISDs are just soo.... disappointing. I swear my Cr90 shoots for harder.

Just imagine that poor guy at FFG who had to do the write-up. Possibly the new ambitious guy eagerly waiting for his chance to shout out, and then the senior guy who did all the articles for wave II before showed up at his desk, heavily decorated with rightfully earned sigils of honor, "ey Paul, wanna do the write-up on all wave III?!" Adrenaline washed through Pauls veins - boy, the whole wave III would be his to comment, to report to the agonized community! This was it, the big day, all that hard work, the countless coffees made for all those sitting above him were finally paying off - they had recognized him and deemed him worthy of being the voice of wave III, the almighty announcer, the oracle of FFG! Boy would his wife be proud of him!

"Wait what, did you say two tiny expansions? Haha.. ehm.."

Yes, the image looks badly cropped, and the filename does indeed say 'revised'.

Yes but I saw this image in another thread... This is is clearly not cropped.

swm_slider.jpg

These are actually two different pictures. This is a symmetrical picture where the flotillas are evenly leveled on either side of 'Wave III'

The picture in the article itself the Gozanti is much higher above the Rebel Transport and the symmetry is obviously off, showing that there is probably something large on the bottom left of that image counter-balancing whatever is on the bottom right:

Its moved so you can still see the background art like the planet between the gozantis and the star destroyer doing its thing.

Oh someone else had mentioned that.

And reading through the rest of the forums, it seems I am a week late to this discussion.

Oops.

At least I missed the part where people bit each others heads off  :o

not so much people as in one person......

Nah, there were plenty of rage topics day of. I counted at least ten at one point, and plenty of negativity in the three discussion threads that we were doing that day.

It just happened to be that three of them were authored by the same person :)

And I just don't get it.

I am super excited for this wave. Even if the 2 flotillas are the only thing in it they look like they will add so much depth to the game and be hugely fun. Not to mention really providing a "fleet" feel to your forces.
