IG-88 BY HIMSELF

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

Is this a thing?

With me being new to this game I haven't gotten to the point where I can feel comfortable buying multiples of a single ship. Every time I see IG mentioned it's as brobots, does anyone ever just fly him by himself?

For scum I currently have:

2 Y-Wings

2 Z-95s

1 HWK

1 Firespray

1 Kihraxz

I think you can use just one of them. I would just be careful of adding too many other ships because you don't want to block your own IG-88 with a bunch of Zs and Ys. Maybe pair it with a Firespray?

Yes. Boba IG88B is a decent combo. Lately I've seen a lot of IG88B + 2 tlt ywings as well that has placed well in Store Championships.

I dont think IG-88B with a 50 point initative bid would do all that well in a tournament scene, but you would get to choose who has init, and with a 50 point bid just in case of ties i would take it.

...does anyone ever just fly him by himself?

Sure. I've seen IG-88B accompanied by a Firespray (commonly, but not universally, Boba Fett), a pair of TLT Y-wings, and occasionally a HWK and something else.

Lots of people like the style and theme of running a pair of Aggressors, and it's a unique and fun archetype. It's also a fairly effective way to spend points, since you get to double-dip on your pilot abilities. But it's certainly not the only way to run them.

In wave 6, I had success with IG and Boba; in wave 7, I had success with IG and Moralo; In wave 8, I hope I will have success with IG and Dengar.

The Aggressor is a nice ship, you don't have to run 2 of them to have success with it.

I've run A with fcs and AT to great effect. The ship is not bad for the points, but you'll need some other way of dealing with aces.

Thanks, guys.

I used to do ig-88 b with 4 z-95's. Great fun. Also ran the bot with 2 starvipers.

The Agressor is THE most adaptable ship out there. It will always fit into a list now and forever, pretty safe buy if you want the second one as well.

I have played a good number of games against two players, one of whom favors Brobots, but isn't very well practiced with them, the other of whom favors Boba/IG, and often does quite well with them even though he often does very poorly with different types of builds. (I tried Brobots a time or two. Fun, but not really my thing.) In each instance, I have flown 3 to 5 small-base ships.

My overall observation regarding these two opponents is that Brobots are tough to fly, unless you're really thinking ahead. A pair of IG's flying fairly close together often end up having a hard time maintaining focus fire, or even maintaining shots at all once the initial joust has been made and they have to work their way behind or through the enemy ships to get new shots. (Again, this is a perspective from watching a pair of Scum large base ships fly against my assortment of small base ships, which clutter up the battlespace.)

And the biggest takeaway is that the Brobots player almost always would have been better served at multiple points in the game if he had a rear firing arc. Hence, Boba/IG looks like the more forgiving list to me.

The last tournament I went to the current UK national champion (who won last year with brobots) took and IG with 2 x TLT Ywings.

Tough list to fly against but has a good game, close at the end but his Heavy Laser cannon just managed to pop Omega Leader.
