Regional Championship list

By biohunter21, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hi all, looking for some input, this is my first try at building a list for competitive play.

eHeavy stormtroopers

rHeavy stormtroopers

temp alliance

Boba fett

eTusken Raiders

Now her is where i am not sure which to use for my last five points:

e Imperial officer or 2x rImperial officer or eProbe droid or rProbe droid and rImperial officer.

I will post my command card list in a few days. Thanks for the input!

(Any suggestions for command cards would be appreciated as well!)

Wouldn't the rRoyal Guards be a bit better than the ETusken Raiders? I'm just trying to guess what your main goal for Raiders are...melee, carry, support, beef? Then you could put in a rHired Guns for the 4 points.

Hmm Maybe I will. I don't have the hired guns pack though.

I would recommend 2 officers if you went with the Royal Guards, the extra movement will get you to far objectives sooner and the Royal Guards make just as good point runners as Hired Guns, but with more durability and reliable damage.

I would really consider taking that Elite Officer along. 1 shot from Boba a round doesn't seem to have a huge effect, his damage is hit or miss, and his heals sometimes just won't be enough to keep him around. Getting 2 shots off every round means that he is suddenly a much larger threat, and he is hard to kill. That said, be sure to protect that officer. A set of royal guards make it so any shot on boba before the guards go down is a wasted shot, but if you want to being other units along, he can still survive quite well on his own.

Gotta be honest. I hate Heavy Stormtroopers. The extra health you get over normal Stormtroopers isn't enough to justify the lack of damage output and terrible mobility.

Your royal guard also won't be using their abilities much because they are so much faster than the Heavies. You're either going to have to sit back and wait for the heavies to come forward or run the Guard upfront and risk exposing them.

Also unfortunately, as much as I love Boba, he's just terrible in skirmish. He's way too expensive and puts out little damage. The mobility is great but I find the best tactic to defeating Boba is to just completely ignore him. Very aggressive play, hunting officers and gideon etc... might pay off but he won't make his points back that way, and it's still risking 13pts in your opponents backline.

If it's your first competitive event then I'd swap the Heavies and Boba for something easier to play like basic stormtroopers (elites are amazing).
Learn the nuance of skirmish first with a more forgiving and consistent list. Then you can start using the harder to play units.

Feel free to ask any questions. I have plenty of data and examples to show why the Heavies are inferior to Regulars.
Elite Stormtroopers are one of the best units in the game right now. Period.

Thanks for the input! I dont know why, but I have had alot of success with the Boba when i was testing this list, especially when the royal guards were next to him. I like the Elite heavy stormtroopers with the imperial officers, because they essentially have a movement of five. The Blast 2 is also great. But I am not sure if I want to keep the regular heavy stormtroopers though. I also see why the elite imperial officer would be helpful with boba. Having already playtested this list and doing pretty well, I am not sure how to change it, as I am not very experienced with this. Suggestions? (Although I like boba, if you really think I should take him out, I might) My tournament is soon, so I am not sure how much time I will be able to have to playtest it.

Look, ultimately, play with what you're comfortable and experienced with. A good player can win with a weaker list. There's no doubt about that.

That's the number one rule. Don't use a list someone else suggested without testing it and knowing how it plays.

There's nothing wrong with taking Boba if you know how to use him properly.
My issue with Boba is just that a good player will know to ignore him. If you can bait your opponent into attacking Boba, and then recover twice with Mandalorian Tactics, then his done his job.

I was a bit harsh when I said he's terrible. He's not terrible... just over costed. On average he does 4 damage against a black dice. He's too expensive to be killing stormtroopers, and he's too weak to kill elite stormtroopers. That leaves him to grab objective, or take out back line support units like Gideon, officers, C3PO etc.

If you can kill enough of those and take out a few activations, you've probably got some good value out of Boba.... but that's still a lot to ask for 13pts. His points denial is good tho. He's hard to kill and can run away and recover well. Use him as a tank or as bait.

He's usefulness also varies a lot depending on the map. The current tournament maps focus more on just killing each other rather than objectives which is why he's not that great right now but the new Leia map for example, has high value objective to carry a long distance with lots of difficult terrain. I think we'll see far more benefit with Boba on that map.

I've already talked bout the heavies.... If you like troopers like that, just try some elite stromtrooopers. You'll be surprised how useful they are. And they don't need officer support. Blast is another one of those new player traps. It's great on paper but a good player will just spread out, which completely negates the whole point of the Heavies. The lack of stormtrooper re-rolls really hurts their damage output.
Quick example - against a black dice, Heavies do 2.5dmg on average. Regular stormtroopers do 2 (before their reroll).

For elite's is almost the same Heavies do 3 and Stormies do 2.5 before rerolls. The reroll is easily worth 0.25-0.5 dmg.
Now the Heavies are tougher, no doubt about that. 3 extra health and a block for the regulars but only 1 extra health for the elites when compared with stormtroopers.

You get one less model in both cases, less flexibility, less objective/terminal control, less blocking potential.
