because they want you to know that you cant be warned, but not how many times other people have been warned.

You only see this for yourself. I see it for my posts but not yours. You will see it for your posts but not mine.

It is a silly thing anyway, why would you want to show that? People who have been banned or warned know that, they won't need constant reminding.

It is primarily for the admins, and then for you to know that you should behave. ;)

Technically, a post like this should be in the off topic section. So maybe if we all report it, we could get you your first warning point Swedge! Would that help? :P

I use it to keep track of how many points I've scored against the straight white cis male Christian patriarchy.

The latter should go without saying and if the mods have warned you once, you shouldn't need a constant reminder. And there are much better ways to provide information to moderators than simple warning points.

As moderator you want to know what a user has been up to.

Of course, but not all fora Software supports this.

I'm not sure Orwell would believe there was any particular problem with keeping a record of a pseudonymous person's public speech acts. There's no compulsion for anyone to post here, after all: if you object to that record, don't use the forum.

(I do think he'd be alarmed as hell about a lot of developments in modern politics, in the UK and in Europe let alone in the USA, but that's not particularly relevant to his feelings about moderator privileges on private message board.)

I think if you asked Orwell about moderators looking at forum poster's records, he'd say "What's an internet forum? What's an internet? What am I doing here I thought I was dead?"

I'm starting to get the feeling you read more into my post than was intended...
