Upcoming Regional kits... pretty lack luster.

Agreed, only 64 Alt Art cards shows just how out of of touch Organized Play is with X-Wing.

As far as I'm aware, almost every US Regional last year exceeded 60 players (many nearing 100). With attendance at Gencon and Worlds growing drastically and Store Champs swelling all year, I'm sure there won't be a US Regional under 100 players this year.

So now you have almost 40% of the field that won't be getting a a single thing for a full day of X-Wing, a $10 entrance fee, and probably a hell of a lot of driving. Could OP really not spare another 35 cards for each kit? Given the rigorous application and screening process, could they not add cards to those kits in regions they expect to have greater attendance (e.g. US and UK regions, at the minimum)?

Pretty ridiculous.

Can't an organizer request a second set if they expect so many people?

I suppose, if it was a participation card. But it's a "Top 64" card, not a participation card.

Nevertheless, hopefully FFGOP honors the requests, as I suspect a large amount of Regional Hosts will be requesting second sets.

White dice are sick.

And we don't know the alternate art card yet.

Daym, we need BESKAR dice set!

With Mandalor sign instead of focus

MANDO IS ALWAYS WATCHING

We've been lucky/unlucky in the UK. Most events I've been to have only been big enough to basically have the alt art upgrades as participation and not top x.

Our stores are tiny, not enough room for as many table :P

SCs, yeah, but most of the Regionals I've seen have been a lot bigger. I'm not sure if I'm goign to do any other than the UKGE one, but that was up pas 100 participants last time I checked.

Am I the only one that's over the whole Challenge Coin thing? Don't get me wrong they are very cool, but I like the "I can actually use these" prizes over things that just sit there in your box.

Are they expecting people to walk up to an opponent at regionals, throw their SC challenge coin down and go "WHERE'S YOURS SCRUB?" Lol

Its a bit risky but you can flip the challenge coin for initiative.

Sure, but nowhere near my ships...

Just spin it instead of flipping it.

Seems like that would be pretty easy to influence one way or the other.

I suppose so. But I'm imagining one person spins and the other calls the result. I don't see how your could influence it since the spinner can't know what the guesser will guess. You just need the caller to call it right after the spin starts.

I used to use a challenge coin for initiative until after a few dozen games I realized it favors one side by a lot. Probably about 80%/20%. So I would not recommend a challenge coin unless you want to put one player at a disadvantage before the game starts.

You mean they get nothing apart from a full day of xwing

The kits are pretty worthless monetarily and the bragging rights are only worth as much as the game :P

... a $10 entrance fee ...

$25 is what I paid for Regionals this year. I'm hoping that the store has some pretty good prize support for that high an entry fee. All 100 spots were registered in less than 6 hours.

The alt card is Hera on the Ghost. What irks me is that they didn't include templates this year. The coin would've been cool if they weren't already included in Store Championships and Game Night Kits. I feel like FFG is starting to skimp on their prize support... Compare this years SC plaque to 2015 and 2014 and you'll know what I mean.

So, one need not lose all their games to miss the top 64 cut.

The proliferation of these challenge coins is getting ridiculous. One was a neat trinket; more than that and they just weigh down your preferred storage method.

FFG really should double the number of alt art cards. The Powerpoint slide may call them a "top 64" prize but a card costs barely anything to produce and it would be nice to provide some kind of participation prize to people for investing their time and money into attending a Regional.

The acrylic Cluster Mine tokens are a bit underwhelming for a Regional — they seem more appropriate for a seasonal tournament kit. A Regional should have something very useful, like more acrylic focus, stress or shield tokens — just make them look a bit different than previous iterations. Perhaps make them glass instead of acrylic? Not everyone's won such things, especially newer players.

The white dice make me breathe heavily, though, haha. And the trophy is, as always, very cool.

Ours is capping at 70ish last I saw, though I imagine there might be more people interested in going. The SC I've been to this year have been significantly larger than the past ones, with past regionals hovering right around 64 players. Then again Florida seems to have smaller communities for all of FFG's games for some reason, so I guess we'll see.

$25 was standard for a large number of our Store Championships this year. Regionals last year was $90 becasue you also had to buy admission to Fan Expo.

I'm just glad the alt-art looks to be rebel. A Z-95 might be nice, even if I don't use it. Maybe Miranda.

I think we should start using tournament winnings to intimidate our opponents, and tricking new players into think we're better than we actually are.

I've accumulated TWENTY CHALLENGE COINS

you should just concede now.

Now you just need to find the x-wing vending machine.

Sorry, but 100 players each paying $10 and the store is going to do what with that money? Pocket it? Kinda seems like a crappy store that isn't willing to offer up some prizes and do cool things for the player base. I wouldn't be surprised if entry fees jump to $20, bringing the income from the event well above an amount where they could do something for everyone.

Our Regional is capping at 120 and the fee is at $15. They have already said they are offering mats to the top 32. They will announce further prizes once they know the final player count also. I went to their SC and the prize support was great for that.

It's not like the kits are free. They have to pay their employees, probably overtime, to have enough staff on hand to run an event that with 100 people is going to run at least 12 hours. A good chunk of those 100 people are probably not going to set foot in that store again unless it's for another event next year, and even if they did turn some of the entry fee into prize money(some stores do, SC I was at this past weekend for instance) those same bottom 40 players still wouldn't likely be in the running for any of it. And honestly, I'm going to be drawn into regular events at a store that's a 2+ hour round trip away just because they offered extra prize support at Regionals, though that may help get closer players to come more often.

Most game stores are already barely operating at a profit if they're making money at all, these places run on a super thin margin for the most part so taking a significant loss on this sort of event just isn't feasible unless there's really something to gain.

My regional was...$20 or maybe $25. But comes with a catered lunch so that the break is shorter during the day.

It's amusing to see that there's the expectation of a participation "prize". Yay. You showed up, what an exceptional effort you made! Here's your prize!
