Build Your Best Non-PTL Interceptor

By Firespray-32, in X-Wing

HOLONET BULLETIN 4033: "Imperial High Command has issued an edict to all TIE wing commanders: their training regimens are too intense. Imperial pilots are in a state of constant stress despite flying their craft on their easiest maneuvers. By degree of Grand General Tagge every Star Destroyer is to have assigned to it a Wellness Officer who's first duty will be to forbid interceptor pilots from a stressful and unhealthy addiction to "Pushing The Limit.""

In a world that suddenly lost PTL, how would you build the TIE interceptor? Post your best and wildest TIE interceptor loadouts (and any necessary T-4a 'Lambda' or TIE/sh support ships). Extra points for crazy nobody else would think of but only if it works.

Anyone who posts Alpha with Autothrusters or anything else obvious will be court martialed and shot.

Turr Phennir, Veteran Instincts, Autothrusters.

Carnor, vi, at, hull

Aaaaaaaaand banning VI and Adaptability too. Should have thought of Phantom Syndrome.

Sabre Squadron Pilot, Opportunist, Autothrusters.

Build an interceptor without the things that make interceptors good.

Sure.

Experimental Interface and Expert Handling.

Soontir Fel, Daredevil/Expert Handling, Autothrusters, Experimental Interface.

:D

Soontir fel, marksmanship, autothrusters, experimental interface. Same 35 points. Next question.

Carnor, vi, at, hull

This, hands down.

Soontir, Daredevil, Mk II Engines, Stealth Device

Carnor Jax, VI, Autothrusters, RG Title, shield (or hull as stated above.)

Beats Soontir Fel every time, especially when accompanied by Yorr with either Fleet Officer or Palpatine.

Soontir Fel + Opportunist + AT + Targeting Computer for the 4/5 TL+focus shot under ideal circumstances.

And then I dunno a Phantom or Palpatine or Carnor or something.

Unless you're definitely going to be running Carnox Jax, Opportunist's not a good fit for Soontir really - at PS9, he's likely to be shooting first (or very early), meaning his target will likely still have focus/evade tokens and will block Opportunist as a result.

You ideally want Opportunist ships to be lower down the PS pecking order, so that the target's tokens may already have been spent before you fire.

Carnor Jax makes for a good Opportunist carrier, as do the Sabre Squadrons.

Doesn't Carnor Opportunist have the problem of locking tokens onto lower PS ships so he can't trigger Opportunist against them?

Turr Phennir with Lonewolf, Royal Guard Title, Autothrusters and Stealth Device.

Connor Jax

Juke

Royal Guard Tie

Autothrusters

Stealth Device

Is Kir Kanos really bad? I mean, he's not the arc dodging super man that all the others are, but he's a decent sniper. Sit in the rear and take Evade. Use it to add an extra hit. I mean, he can't modify dice, but sometimes you don't need to. He does ADD A HIT AUTOMATICALLY. If you roll 3 hits, you get to add a 4th. Or maybe you only hit twice, but then add up towards the third. Works with Auto Thrusters if he's at R3.

Of course.....I don't mean in the top tables of Worlds that is super competitive and only flies a small % of all the pilots ever made. I mean more for fun games at the local game store. I can see him being good for Epic and helping to take down ships.

Use Carnor as an action denier?

Use blockers?

Use other PS 9 attackers?

Use Rebel Captive on your support ships?

Point is, best Opportunist carriers in the game are Soontir Fel and Keyan Farlander since they turn the stress cost essentially into a focus. Opportunist has some issues in reliable triggering, but that's what the rest of the squad can help with.

Is Kir Kanos really bad?

Without Fleet Officer, he is.

Actually, he's not too bad with Palpatine floating around.

I dunno. It doesn't strike me as a very good list compared to others, but it's very thematic:

  • Omicron Group Pilot - Sensor Jammer, Emperor Palpatine, Tactical Jammer
  • Carnor Jax - Juke, Royal Guard TIE, Shield Upgrade, Autothrusters
  • Kir Kanos - Royal Guard TIE, Shield Upgrade, Autothrusters

Post your best and wildest TIE interceptor loadouts (and any necessary T-4a 'Lambda' or TIE/sh support ships). Extra points for crazy nobody else would think of but only if it works.

Maybe something like this? I don't know how well it holds together over the course of a match, but it could do some damage.

Kir Kanos (24)

Autothrusters (2)

Captain Yorr (24)

Electronic Baffle (1)

Fleet Officer (3)

Royal Guard Pilot (22)

Rage (1)

Autothrusters (2)

"Epsilon Leader" (19)

Weapons Guidance (2)

Total: 100

It's all about having Phennir forcing them to use up their tokens, so Fel can swoop into range 1 and land a sweet 5 dice attack. Then, Jax moves in for the sweet out of arc shot. I didn't use AT on Turr because I only have 2.

I've got this great idea for an Interceptor without PTL!!! It starts with...

Dangit! ...never mind...

Is Kir Kanos really bad?

While I think Fleet Officer....or Squad Leader...or something like that......will make him better, do you really think he's that bad without? Sure, you won't get to modify the dice, but it's almost better because you can ADD a result. So, on those shots that you hit with all of them, you get your max potential increased. On those rolls you roll average, you end up with the same results as if you modified them with a Focus. On the rounds when you roll nothing but eyeballs, yeah, it's worse, but how often does that happen?
