New Descent App Allows for full CO-OP, do you think this should/will come to IA

By EpicBubbleSA, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I have scratched my co-op miniatures itch with Space Cadets: Away Missions. I still buy everything that IA spits out, of course.

I want this so bad.

I have a complete IA collection but no friends to play with.

I always have to play by myself.

Nurgle there is nothing going on at your LGS? Have you tried organizing a demo day?

The overwhelming demand for this app is just staggering, people coming out of the wood work just to post their support both here and on the Descent forum. As I have said before, FFG made a comment about seeing how popular their latest Descent expansion is (Kindred Fire) to determine if they will continue supporting the app. I suggest you all go download it (its free) even if you don't have Descent to pad the numbers and support future development of an IA app :D

There is quite a lot going on at my FLGS. I'm not sure about Imperial Assault though.

I haven't been there for gaming for a while, mostly because I had a difficult time lately with my BPD and had problems to socialize. I am working on changing that though.

But especially for those "down phases" I wish I had an app like Road to Legend for IA.

I don't have many expansions for Descent, but that may change soon.

:)

Thank you for the hint.

I'll take a look at it. Now that we are out of the European Championship I have time.

All the cards and instructions/rules are available in the thread for "redjaks automated emperor variant" RAEV

Be aware redjak made a second simplified variant which doesn't try and include all aspects of an imperial player which is called "redjaks automated imperial variant" so if you want all functions of the game (rather than faster play) then you need Emperor, not Imperial :) (sorry not easy to post a link from phone)

I recently picked up IA (on sale from a closing Moviestop) and have only played a few games so far. I do own Descent too, along with the solo expansion, and I would love to see both an app and physical component. It could even fix into the style of the contained campaign, like a rogue A.I., some evil Imperial behind the scenes, or moar droids.

So lets just hope for gencon anouncement :P

It won't be, mansions of madness just got the new descent app treatment so there has been no time to develop an IA version.

Besides ffg don't have the rights to electronic star wars games, they can't even sell pdf's of their rpg books so I doubt they can make an app driven game.

And the dice app ? doesnt that gave the electronic star wars rights ?

It's not a electronic game, it's a random number generator.

We can sit here and pretend to know all the legal details, but the fact is you don't, I don't, nobody knows.. Until FFG comes out and says "We will not be releasing a Star Wars: Imperial Assault app due to legal reasons." I will continue to believe that one is on its way. Especially since in the past, when asked, they have dropped hints that one is in development.

Meanwhile over at FFG/GenCon

So...I will likely solo play the heck out of all the campaigns next year then.

At the In-Flight Report, Mr. Peterson said "we're working on it, look out for it sometime next year". I think that goes beyond a 'hint' ;-)

I heard it more like "We have been pestered about it, so we're looking into it. We'll let you know where we are next year." But maybe I'm overly pessimistic. :D

This is word for word what he said in the segment of the presentation regarding app integration:

"One of the most common questions I've gotten in the last three months is "I really like Road to Legend, I really like it. How about..."

<Imperial Assault logo shows up on screen, people cheer>

...this guy?" So today I'm announcing to you guys that we're working on it. <more cheering> So stop asking <smiles>. We're excited, we're really excited to see that. You can look for, hopefully, something in that direction, I'd say next year sometime"

"I'm announcing that we're working on it" seems pretty unambiguous to me.

I can imagine a lot of meanings for "we're working on it", especially after their Tweet about the app was removed a little while later. FFG has both the app itself and the licensing to arrange / sort out.

We'll see it when we see it. I'm certainly one of the people eager to get to fiddle with it as soon as possible, but I won't be holding my breath, especially with the non-committal-sounding schedule.

They need change some things. Imperial Assault has centric around tactical objective missions and a co-op need a more RPG feel maybe. Curious to see the what approach they will take.

I have hopes they can do this.

Descent app is mostly played on the board because it is pretty much a pure strategy game. It cares less about where stuff is, just let me know when you kill it.

Mansions of Madness is played much more on the app because of the strong story element. It keeps track of more things it seemed to me when playing yesterday.

Hoping IA has a middle ground and they take everything they have learned from the previous 2.

I'm kinda in the camp that they are still having to work things out with the licensing and 'we are working on it' could mean working on the legal issues or actually putting some code time in. Fingers crossed.

I feel your pain Nurgle. I'm in the same boat with BPD and have become extremely introverted as I get older.

Think in the same way,and hope for some stronger elements. They have cool stories and elements in Star Wars RPG license, but the entire IA mechanics it's around combat. I bet in a approach like Descent, with quest centric campaigns. Well, RTL has the alternate turn order and side quests system from IA.

Saw the updates about the FFG presentation and the now deleted tweet.. it seems hard to deny what was said in person at the presentation so deleted tweet or not I will stick by that quote. We are at some point going to see an app, now we can just try to relax and wait patiently :D At least we know we have even more great content on the horizon to keep us busy until the app comes out. It is no longer a question of IF, just when. So... we were right, the haters were wrong, nana nana poo poo? :P

People are worried that "working on it" could well mean trying to work out the licensing, thus no sure-fire certainty of it becoming an actual thing. So we just have to hope and "hopefully learn more next year"

Fingers crossed but not counting chickens

Nah, the way I look at it the nay sayers will do whatever they can to find a way to deny the app is being made. They are really, really digging here if they are trying to twist their words like that. The quote from the presentation is about as clear as it gets, we are working on it, its coming, please stop bothering us (smiley face). From this point on I choose to totally ignore their argument as I find it has no grounds, thus I will just look forward to the app and patiently await its arrival.
