Vader + Inquisitor + ??? Help

By goldensun05, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Been brainstorming a list with the Inquisitor and Vader that uses them to rip apart ships one at a time. I've got a set up I like for Vader and the Inquisitor, but haven't settled on the other 38 points in the list.

Here is what I have settled on:

(34) Vader - Tie/x1, advanced targeting computer, engine upgrade

(28) Inquisitor - Tie/v1, autothrusters

I'm debating between the following right now for the last 38 points:
- 3 Academy Pilots to act as a buffer/distraction in the list. This lets me add VI on both aces too.
- 2 Tie Aces and giving vader and/or inquisitor predator. Haven't decided which aces though
- Palpmobile with tractor beam so as to up consistency, give the list some survivability, and disrupt people with the tractor beam.
- Soontir Fel because he gives me another upclose fighter like vader that causes so many problems for opponents

What do people think is best here? These are just the ideas I thought of and I am open to other alternatives too.

Maybe OL for some anti ace? Then you can ept + Procket your other guys as well

Palp shuttle with an electronic baffle and a tractor beam for 31. Ptl on the inquisitor for 3. Leaves 4 points. Use 2 for something else on the shuttle, ion projector? Make the blocker permanent cause you can force the projector with palpatine and then full stop till the enemy ship is dead with liberal use of ebaffle. Really dissuades chasing down the shuttle, but then there's no easy option to chase hehe. Wow, I want to fly this now.

I'd almost consider taking Juno Eclipse just to keep the theme of Advanced going ;P Haven't tried her out in practice but a maneuverable as all hell TIE/ad sounds like it would fit in with an aces list like this, though for actual tried and tested use I'd probably still dip back into Soontir. In saying that, the Tractor Beam whale as mentioned above sounds all kinds of brutal.

I really like the electronic baffle and ion projector on the lambda! If I have 2 points left, Expert handling may be interesting to test on vader, as it lets him boost, barrel roll, and focus/lock every turn. Also makes him near impossible to lock onto. Not sure if it will be better then simply playing VI but it is worth a test.

Emperor Palpatine (8)

This. It's like standard Imperial Aces, but the shuttle is a much more useful tool here (also making it a bigger target) and you downgrade Soontir (too much hate in the meta, anyway) to Inquis to get the extra points.

This enhanced Palpmobile is an anti-stresshog, able to suck stress away from other ships at R1-R2 and then feed it to the baffler if you like. When Vader, Inquis and the Shuttle are all in the furball, your action dependent aces will actually be capable of performing K-Turns, if your positioning is good. Then Yorr pulls the stress and your aces can continue with their double actions. This shuttle will also shoot before triple U-Boats, which will probably be relevant, and makes your team less susceptible to Stresshogs.

I like this version, if we're talking Vader/Inquis/X.

If you don't like that, then go with:

Darth Vader (29)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Proton Rockets (3)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

Engine Upgrade (4)

TIE/x1 (0)

The Inquisitor (25)

Push the Limit (3)

XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1)

Autothrusters (2)

TIE/v1 (1)

"Omega Leader" (21)

Juke (2)

Comm Relay (3)

Stealth Device (3)

Total: 99

Palp mobile 29

Add predator to Vader with boost title ATC 37

And inquis. 34 points with title PTL prockets AT

As long as shuttle gets a few shots you can do it!

I'm thinking of running this list at a store championship tomorrow:

Darth Vader (29)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

TIE/x1 (0)

Soontir Fel (27)

Push The Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

Targeting Computer (2)

Royal Guard TIE (0)

The Inquisitor (25)

Push The Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

TIE/v1 (1)

Total: 100 pts

No initiative bid but you can always swap out PTL on the Inquisitor for Juke or VI if you prefer.

Take Colonel Vessery - even before the Imperial Vets hit the tables, he would be a good addition to your team, as both the Inquisitor and Vader shall be taking target locks very often. For 38 points you can have Vessery with VI, TIE Mk. II engines and a tractor beam (which will be great with incoming TIE/D title). Also, if you give adaptability to Vader, you can lower his PS to 8 in order to make him shoot after the tractor beam hits the target. Making those crits from Vader more painful.

My take on your list though, is:

Darth Vader (29)

Adaptability (0)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

TIE/x1 (0)

Colonel Vessery (35)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Tractor Beam (1)

TIE/D title, when released (0)

TIE Mk. II (1)

The Inquisitor (25)

Push The Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

TIE/v1 (1)

Total: 99 pts

I'm dropping EU on Vader, in order to invest some more into the Inquisitor and Vessery. Juke on the Inquisitor would also be a great addition.

1: swap VI for Adaptability on Vader.

2: swap Fel for Jax and TC for Stealth.

3: Inquisitor as above.

99 points

This give me the ability to have everyone at PS 8 if no high skill pilots are present, allowing Vader to fire last on a token depleted target with ATC active.

There is this as well

Inquisitor

PTL

V1

AT

Vader

VI

X1

Adv TC

EU

Omnicron

Emperor

Baffle

Tractor beam

Anti pursuit lasers

Total 99 points

How about:

Vader, VI, ATC, EU, X1

Inquisitor PTL, Title, AT

Yorr Palatine

Yorr protects against stress and shoots before the Uboots.

Multiple people suggesting Vader LOWER his PS!?!?!?

We truly are in a new era of the meta.

I had juke on the inquisitor instead but yeah basically the list I came up with as well.

Vader being able to fire last at a tokenless target is a bonus in the age of the low level pilots that people are using in their lists.

I'm aware of that "combo" but just baffled that it's part of the new meta conversation.

It's a choice each matchup remember. You aren't committing to PS8 but having a choice of 8 or 10. Unless Han re emerges, only VI Vader runs at PS11 so in many Ace match ups PS10 with a bid should get the job done. I'd have Juke rather than Push on the Inquisitor, largely to make the bid 2pts against other PS10's. I've had so many matches with VI Vader where PS11 was wasted.

I ran this list today with moderate results, but had insanely poor dice rolls (and bad maneuvering on my part) on Soontir loosing him way to early in the match. Inq feels very fragile, but if you can manage to have him at range three of the action and snipe he has great potential.

This list may be helpful

The Inquisitor -(33)

Expert Handling(2)

Proton Rockets(3)

TIE/v1(1)

Autothrusters(2)

Darth Vader-(37)

XX-23 S-thread Tracers(1)

Predator(3)

Engine Upgrade(4)

Omega Ace-(28)

Weapons Guidance(2)

Push the limit(3)

Hull upgrade(3)

Total: 98 pts

Omega ace is gonna have better hull strength and the ability to land crits almost every turn by combining push the limit with his ability. As for the inquisitor, expert handling will make it virtually impossible for anything to lock onto it while still dishing out alot of damage with proton rockets and the title card gives it an evade after attacking which means that combined with autothrusters, it will be virtually impossible to hit him unless an enemy tries to get a range 1 shot on the inquisitor. However, if you keep Omega ace nearby, that enemy will be done for before it even has a chance to attack the inquisitor.

The target locks you'll get from vader are very advantageous because Omega Ace's ability and the inquisitor's will allow for three attack dice at any range which also means he can take range 3 shots safely away from enemy ships while Omega ace can takes ships head on and Vader can behind and land alot of range 1 shots.

Hope this helps!
