This card should read - Update pack

By Tyrichter, in X-Wing

I started playing X-Wing because it was simple and fun. But, as the new ships and cards were being added, sometimes the rules became unclear. I´ve been reading the FAQ booklet and there´s just too many cards that were updated, saying "This card should read" or some other cards that had to be explained.

How would you guys feel about FFG making a pack of cards, that would contain all or most updated cards from the FAQ booklet?

When it comes to errata I believe FFG does change the wording on cards to what it should say is subsequent printings.

YES, PLEASE, DO THIS!

At the moment, we are up to 15 cards that have been re-worded via the FAQ, and it's getting to be quite a headache.

When it comes to errata I believe FFG does change the wording on cards to what it should say is subsequent printings.

Can confirm, my copies of daredevil do use the correct wording

Personally, I think they should build the fixes for some ships right into the ship cards as well.

That's fine, but I don't want to have to:

A) Wait until they run out of stock on the current printing of StarVipers

B) Then proceed to buy two more StarVipers in order to get the "correct" autothruster cards to replace mine

Aside from the cloaking rules most of the errata is just clarifying the wording so that the mechanics work as intended. For example daredevil got changed from doing a red 1 turn maneuver to doing a whit 1 turn maneuver then take a stress token which for the most part acts the same except it allows tycho to take daredevil as he usually is always carrying stress tokens. But gameplay wise there really hasn't been any buffs or nerfs that required a pen and ink change to the cards.

Under "correct" you mean "***ed up post-FAQ" or "Glorious pre-faq goodness"?

Worst case you can always print the cards with updated text, won't look as pretty but it gets the job done!

You may not want to, but FFG certainly would like you to do that.

FFG has made it VERY clear that they won't do just card packs but I think this could be a Good exception.

I think it should also contain pilots that could use some change in their ability description. For example - Dark Curse. His ability now seems confusing to me. For example - before the change, he was able to shut down the blaster turret without questioning. But now he can be shot at by the blaster turret, but the attacker cannot spend the target lock to modify his dice? That´s just weird. And no text on his pilot card hints, that I should look it up in the FAQ.

Dark Curse Ability: "When defending, ships attacking you cannot spend focus tokens or reroll attack dice".

FAQ: "Dark Curse can be the target of a secondary weapon attack that requires the attacker to spend a focus token".

It´s just confusing to me and it would be great if FFG would make such an update pack to keep rules without questions.

Compare all the errata to the original cards. The changes don't actually affect how they work, they're to clear up ambigious phrasing. The biggest departure is Daredevil, and that only affects Tycho or a ship using Chopper and Daredevil.

That one's actually in the rulebook. They made a lot of changes to the base rules in the new core set to clear up a lot of weirdness: one change is explicitly clarifying that you choose your weapon and pay costs to target before a ship becomes the defender. (In the old ruleset secondary weapons didn't actually work RAW because you couldn't target outside your arc).

It would be nice. BUt it ain't gonna happen.

I wish they did a text version of the FAQ the way they do of the tournament rules though. I keep meaning to print it out but at 20-odd MB and full colour it's a touch demanding on my poor little inkjet.

If you can't remember the rulings (which is fair, there are a lot of updates) either keep the FAQ printed and handy, or/and print out the corrected cards and stick them in a sleeve with the original card undearneath.

I'm gonna need it this weekend regardless of which of the lists I'm planning I play, so I'll have to eat the printing costs >.<
