Incorporating Slicing into the Game

Reading through the thread some, I could see him being able to remotely access a terminal he's already had access to.

What if he had to install a backdoor into the security of the system he planned to slice first? A virus or something? Then he could access it with a datapad. Maybe he doesn't even have to install it himself... It gets plugged in by the sneaky droid and he's in from the ship.

Would that make sense? It still requires some legwork to be done, but it keeps him at the relatively safe distance that wireless grants,

I would say so and based on some of the descriptions on the Special Modifications book I think there will be some directions on doing just that sort of thing.

The setting is broad enough in scope and plays it more than fast and loose enough with actual science, that I feel you have plenty of room to flex artistic license muscles and not be out of character in the setting.

That's a pretty standard setup for many genre shows with an HQ-based techie who needs to access remote systems (Felicity on Arrow, everyone on CSI: Cyber, etc.) It can easily translate to a Star Wars setting.

In fact, it's giving me an idea for an NPC for our campaign. A Rebel Propagandist with a setup similar to Serenity's Mr. Universe. But, in order to gain access to the information he sends out in pirate broadcasts (or, perhaps to also access different broadcast points themselves), he hires the PCs to infiltrate a facility and plant a receiver/virus/whatever.
