Road to legend

By Volkren, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Randomly chosen... not randomly generated.

I think both means the same in this situation... or not?

The random chosen map tiles are like the ones in the Co-op campaigns, right? (little premade sections of dungeons... made of up to 4 tiles or so) I would call that "random generated" (and the more expansions you have, the more random it gets... because there are more terrains, monster and so on). ^_^

@Luijod The quests (maps, monsters,...) will be randomly generated depending on what expansions (boxes, lieutenants, h&m) you have in your collection ("remove (add) from (to) collection").

Is it confirmed 100% that the map tiles will be randomly generated? I'm thinking it may work as the co-op pod where we always had the same rooms but in different order since you shuffle the deck.

I would love for FFG to make it so that when you re-play a campaign you'd get different configurations of map tiles and dungeons while keeping the objective rooms and the story the same.

@Mortalo : I'm aware of the add/remove button and that the game will pick monster groups & conditions, in addition to exclusive perils, travel events & side quests. It's one of the many reasons this app has me pumped up.

Has anyone heard anything about the new travel system. I noticed that on the town shopping screen there were options for letting a week pass, buying xp. So much we don't know yet, **** this anticipation!

It's not been confirmed that maps will be randomly generated.

It's just as likely that they will go for randomly chosen side missions (like imperial assault) instead.

In my humble opinion , the reason for the change in activation order is quite simple, they prevent the wipe of an entire group of monsters without any reaction ( my main complaint in some gaming scenarios) and create at the same time , pressure on the players, throwing a threat that needs to be addressed immediately. I think, from the gameplay perpective, it's a much better approach for the co-op mode.

I hadn't thought about that, since co-ops are always on that hard timer, and you're always pushed to complete rooms as quickly as possible. Clearing out a room of enemies on the first heroes' turns is a positive, but playing a campaign I could see that get boring.

As long as they've tested it I see no problem with the change, it's probably going to make the encounters from room to room more challenging. I'm even more sold on this app now, when will I get that sweet release?!

There´s a lot of information in the release trailer (just need a careful analysis frame by frame ;) ). In the PODS, you can only explore a new segment if you kill all enemies. In the app, you need complete some sort of objective. If the all heroes go first, you can just ignore the monsters (in some cases) and just run and unlock the next door . With the change in activation, the monsters will interfere at some point . But theres are some interesting things in the trailer, they show a scenario with some kind of spawn points on the map, bringing new monsters every turn (well, we can call this a reinforce at start of the overlords turn :P ), and again, everthing will be affected with the next activation.

Only a assumption, in my perception, the heroes and monsters packs and the expasions can add some sort of "rumor deck" with the app, randomly chosen in the campaign at some point. They show quests only avaliable at some time frame (quest avaliable at 4 weeks in the trailer for example). In the meantime, you will choose which side quests will do, to travel and explore (1 week per quest most likely). This system has some similarity with the original Road to Legend campaign.

I would also like quest's like this in a campaign, where the heros have to split up/decide what to do and take risks for better rewards.

The IA system is:

A campaign is done by alternating between story missions and side missions.

The story missions stay the same each time the campaign is played but the side missions come from a random pile of quests. This adds a lot of replayability to a campaign.

In descent the story missions would be the purchased campaign with tiles taken from a limited pool (e.g. core only)

The side missions would be unlocked using the physical expansions that you own.

The more you own the more variety of quests you get.

Isn't that almost the same they did with quest rumor cards? (well except the "limited pool" you said sounds like it would be smaller quests?)

Tiles will be taken from pool of core and all expansions you have in your collection. I'm pretty sure it was written in either 1st or 2nd news. Same with monsters. That's what I thought about, using word "random".

The thread that just won't end ...

Analysis ad nauseam ... just like playing the game itself sometimes ... :P :D

I'm wondering if the 3 lieutenant packs from the base set i bought from Italy will be compatible with the App? Splig, a Farrow and the big Z, will i need the cards, in italian, or will it just use the minis?

Side missions? I don't know why, but hat sounds awesome. Is that more like a extra room in a quest which you can explore? Or more like kill this enemy (which is not on the way to the main quest goal and is very strong)? Sounds fun either way.

I would also like quest's like this in a campaign, where the heros have to split up/decide what to do and take risks for better rewards.

Side missions in Imperial Assault are broken into three categories with their own color:

Green - usually involve an ally (Han, Luke, Chewie etc..) and usually you do these quests to be able to bring the ally into future missions, but also for specific reward cards

Red - Hero specific, this is a quest that is all about one specific hero that gives you a great reward for them to use through out the campaign

Grey - These are more generic rewards that anyone can use, these get a bad rep as being boring but actually some of the most fun missions are in here

You pick 4 greens that you want, the associated reds for the heroes in your party and 4 random grey missions from the pile. Then you shuffle these all together and you pick two from the pile, you can choose either one of the two as a side mission. Once the mission is completed (successfully or not) it is discarded and you choose another one from the pile to again give you two choices. This continues every time a side mission comes up in the campaign lay out (generally every second mission, but not always). Each time you buy an AVP (Lieutenant pack) it comes with a new green or grey side mission to give you even more choices and increase the replayability of the game. Box expansions come with several, I think Twin Shadows has 6 more of various colors.

So a fun thing to do after you've played a campaign is change up your heroes, pick 4 new green quests and if you have enough 4 new grey quests and depending on which missions you win or lose in the campaign it can be a completely different campaign. At the very least the side missions will be fresh.

I assume that it don't care about the language of the physical content you own. After all it's only translated, game does not change (there might be mistakes in translation, though).

Descent: Road to Legend (our new app) is coming soon! Experience Descent 2nd ed. in a whole new way! #madewithunity

That screenshot shows a map that branches, as opposed to a corridor of POD, which is more evidence of side missions than randomly generated maps.

Red - Hero specific, this is a quest that is all about one specific hero that gives you a great reward for them to use through out the campaign

Maybe that is why the app wants to know which hero's are in use.

Well, a month ago they said it was out in "just a few weeks".

Two weeks later they posted again to tell us it was out in "just a few weeks".

Today they post to tell us it's "coming soon".

So far its been over a month, and still no sign. Looks to me like they have found some issues and realised this thing isn't coming anytime "soon".

I Hope that's not the case... :(

The first anyone heard of this app was March 15th. That date to the last Tuesday in April ( still 2 weeks from now) is only 6 weeks. I don't think we're even out of the ' in a few weeks' from the first announcement yet.

"Aiming for late April release .. " Calm down people !!!

So many feels on this thread. Love it.

I must admit ...

If nothing else ...

The very ANNOUNCEMENT of this app seems to have generated more interest in this game, and participation within this forum (albeit mostly in 1 thread), then has occurred in the past few years.

It is very nice to see posts from more than the typical handful of individuals ...

Makes me feel good that this game may actually hang around for a while ... :P :D

One proof of your point, it was a combo of the App Announcement combined with a play trough Video set on YouTube that got me to invest in the game. :P

Same here. Just got core and all expansions except the Bilehall including all the lieutenants (except the impossible to find core lieutenants)

My boys and I are going to have a great time. Now waiting for the Imperial Assault version of this app!

I would also say that the app needs to work great that will solidify the future of this game and also Imperial Assault since this app will almost 100% chance be adapted for both games.

A couple extra months is small price to pay for great app. Now if November comes around and no app.... eh..
