Road to legend

By Volkren, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

A new trailer has been uploaded minutes ago in FFG YouTube channel call "Road to Legend". Here is the link:

[Edit]: this is the foot page:

" Make your games of Descent: Journeys in the Dark® completely cooperative with the Road to Legend™ companion app.

To learn more, visit our website: www.fantasyflightgames.com"

It seems to be an official Campaign Tracker and an Automatic Overlord sort of system (similar to what it is done with the coops).

[Edit] Here is the Official News for this:

What do you think it is?

So shiny!

Good catch Volkren!

Looks to be mostly a fancy campaign tracker to me, with some ability to assist the user with game setup. The 'new round' screen, AI-actions screen, and flavor text screens also suggest there is some degree of playable automated content too. I am most intrigued by that aspect. If this becomes a new way to present players with co-op expansion adventures, that would be awesome :)

Hopefully FFG releases some more info soon.

For now though, Atom4geVampire's tracker has been working great for me.

I hope they'll add IA Line of Sight as an option.

What a great news! Thank you FFG for all the support for this amazing product!

Looks and sounds great but not sure I'd ever use it. I play campaigns with a group and we have a dedicated overlord player. Maybe if I fancied playing solo and needed an auto overlord. I'd be more interested if this was just a good campaign tracker or something. Still, good to see this great game continue to be supported.

Interesting..

Can I play solo with this app?

Based on what was said in the official news article from FFG, it appears as though you have to use the Overlord AI when you use the Road To Legend app. Which is awesome in and of itself because that expands the co-op options the entire Descent line, rather than the specifically written co-op adventures released so far (which also happen to be rather long but basically have to be done in one sitting; I'm looking forward to a fully co-op normal style campaign).

I know they say there's more info to come but right now I'm curious if you'll be able to use it as purely a "tracker" and not have to use the Overlord AI? In the meantime, definitely gonna have to try out Atom4geVampire's tracker. Never came across it before but just took a quick look and it seems pretty slick!

Waiting for a similar app for Star Wars Imperial Assault

Looks cool!

My only concern is this image:

I'm not sure what these buttons imply:

  • Give Hero 1 XP (1 Week * 150 Gold)
  • Wait 1 Week
  • Leave

Presumably, this is the shop screen. As far as I've seen, there is no concept of "weeks" in the game or buying more XP. I just hope to dear God that they don't have in-app purchases for coins...

I'm also curious what the other 5 buttons in the corners do.

Here's another interesting usage of "weeks":

Looks like the second main quest here says "Begin in 4 weeks"

Last post :)

This part of the video shows a journal with the text "Day 1" on the left. It seems that an encounter is now broken up into several days. Maybe 1 round = 1 day?

I hear people talk so much about wanting exploration and enjoying the co-op experience... I will definitely give this a try with my son so we can both be heros!! Could this be the future of descent?

Yes what a smart move.

I started a topic a few months back regarding this: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/183491-i-just-got-my-first-coop-adventure-wouldnt-an-coop-app-be-the-better-way/#entry1707536 so of course I'm very intrigued.

Let's hope there is an easy international release and that with this all the international supply problems for the PoD Coops will be a thing of the past.

Do you think this app will act as a campaign tracker for the existing campaign, too? Or will it "just" provide an automated overlord and fully-cooperative campaigns. Don't get me wrong ... I think this is a really cool approach. But I would love to track my classic campaigns with this tool. But I didn't read anything about that in the article. Or did I miss this information somehow?

Wow this looks like a dream come true. When will it be available?

Waow
This news meets all my expectations for the futur of the game. Travelling around terrinoth, mixing all boxes contents, giving some dungeon crawler/RPG flavor again, full coop experience. It is an entire new path that opens in front of us.
Oh god that is really awesome, sure that app will boost the game as i know a lot of people who enjoy to play solo campaigns (mage knight, etc...).
Now do not misunderstand me i still ask for classic descent expansions with an human overlord (that is the core game), it is just that the app adds so much more possibilities and in this depth.

Anyone noticed that it shares the same name with the first edition expansion? I hope that doesn't imply this may be near the end of Descent 2nd edition content...

Well the name Road to Legend is such a great name anyway so I'm not surprised they use it again, especially since it carries the value of a great product since 1ed.

I think it's great, but I won't be using it. I love the role of the overlord too much to give it away.

Then I try not to think too much as for how much this evolution of the game will damage the existing coops, but there is no shadow of doubt that it completely obsoletes them.

I personally am not a great fan of apps in aboard game, as it replaces human elements of board gaming that makes the experience enjoyable. But it's definitely in line with the modern trend board games are taking.

Fantastic news, now I just need to wait a few weeks to play it.

I much prefer OL vs. heroes to the coop as well, but from time to time it's great to all play together as the heroes and doing it with the great Descent mechanics is a huge plus. I'm very curious how long these coop quests will be, but since the first 4 quest-campaign is free, everyone can check it out without committing to it.

I share your view on apps in board games to a certain extent. But since I can't see the app replacing any human elements of the coop, I'm totally fine with this.

I must say that I’m exceedingly intrigued by this. I agree with you guys that we should be wary of replacing the human element in board games with apps, but enemy AI in coop games has always been one of the genre’s weaknesses. It’s usually either overly simplistic, “gamey” or fiddly (or all three at the same time), so this may be one of the times when a computer will add real value to the game.

Also, I can’t be the only one who’s totally psyched about getting to actually explore again (disregarding the three existing coop modules of cause). IIRC the lack of exploration was one of the main complaints against 2 nd edition when it came out, and this seems like a very good way to bring it back without increasing the workload of players in a major way.
