I was wondering how a group would handle a Separatist veteran who they encounter as a mentor only to learn as they adventure he's an ex-imperial whose considered AWOL by them and has a reputation as a Jedi Hunter.

I was picturing this would lead to the revelation he was a friend of Bail Organa and the destruction of Alderaan was when he cut his ties with the Empire.

I see him as someone who'd rather retire into obscurity but isn't willing to turn his back when he knows his help is needed, I just wonder how to make this understandable?

Interesting idea Copper. Were you thinking of using this fellow/lady as part of a single session or as part of an entire story arc? I don't see anything wrong with it, I personally would make that veteran's backstory very specific before jumping in. If over a whole story arc you can have him or her have increased contact and importance.

Thank you for all your inputs. Things didn't become quite as planned but it worked out in the end. They didn't manage to liberate Dorin but they did overthrow the local tyrant and one of the PC's took his place; convincing the imperials that it would be to their best interest to let a person who the people love rule. He agreed to be their "puppet" in order to maintain order.

The rest of the group understood why he did that. The Empire's retribution would have been gruesome so the PC knew this was the only was since the could not win a war against the empire with the few resources they got. He and the senator of Dorin would keep things orderly (for now). This will be interesting in the future once the senate is dissolved and the regional governors must take power.

The group moved on (and the PC's player made a new character ). They left the system in good hands and are now working with Ackbar in a secret mission.

So, did Conan return the wayward daughter of King Osric to her home. And having no further concern, he and his companions sought adventure in the West. Many wars and feuds did Conan fight. Make things worse before getting better... Not all people want to revolt, most will more likely try to keep theire lifes as they are. Your PC should at this moment be considered as vandals (at best) by the majority of the population.

Only some young Hotshots will be open minded for theire "Call to Arms"-Agenda, so the PCs have to find thoses youngsters and turn them aggressive on the empire,

Then your players have to do different terorristik acts against the empire: blow up small outpost, rob theire Weapon/ Equipment/ Supply-Transports

provoke by disturbing the empire where ever it is possible AND (very important) let it look lik the Kel Dor had done all of this deeds.

Then the Empire should harras and doing revenge on the inhabitants, by giving strikter orders, doing a lot of house searchings, taking people into custodie and so on.

And if you want to bring the player into a reall hard morality crisis you can let slip the Idea of an young hotshot:

"If we want the people to rise against the Empire... we need the empire to attack the people at first... Well we have all this shiny armour and Weapons from the last break in... and you know those guys down in the slums... would make a great sacrifyce... they won´t be missed to much by society but at the same time the people would want revenge for them..."

Ok that would be a total dark side deed and if there are any lightside wannabe jedis they will not want to go that path... but then again those youngsters could grap the Armor with his friends to do what those "wannabe rebells" couldn´t accomplish.

Discovering that those amors are gone would be a good hook for the PCs "What will you do now? Try to stop those youngsters? maybe by violence? And by so losing your little supplyment within the inhabitants? or let them do want they want, risking of beeing discovered and may be executet? Or go there to help them in case the real impereals will show up, or the people do start to revolt...against them?
