I think "Jim Kerr" would be a great name for Haley's nemesis. Cookies for you if you get it (not that difficult. :P)

Simple Minds? I met him once as a teenager, I was really into my New Wave music. Nice bloke, heavy Scottish accent.

I don't know why he'd be Haley's nemesis though :)

But one name on here is seriously just. just...I don't even have the word for it! Asinine maybe?

Bradknowles

Seriously!?

You are telling me that he is a rude poster here on the Star Wars FFG EotE Forum!? I don't think I have ever seen anything but helpful critic and advice from him, let alone anything negative! I would put him as one of the most polite posters around here!

Wow. I appreciate all the love folks, I really do.

Seriously!

But I’ll be the first, or second, or third person to tell you that I am far from perfect. I mean, I do try to generally be helpful and thoughtful in my responses, but there are certain behaviours and types of people who do tend to get under my skin, and I am considerably less tolerant of them.

I do honestly apologize for any collateral damage that may occur, and any unnecessary or inappropriate offense that I may cause.

But when it comes to trolls, excessive snarkiness, passive-aggressive behaviour, extreme narcissists, or the like, then I’m likely to push back. And I don’t give up quickly or easily in such cases.

If I have accidentally mis-identified someone as exhibiting this kind of behaviour, then I do apologize. I am aware of the nature of online textual communications and the tendency to lose a lot of information in the process, and I try to take that into account. But I am human, and I will make mistakes. I apologize for that in advance, and I will apologize for that again when it happens again.

But I am pretty honest and open about who and what I am. I use my real name, my e-mail address hasn’t changed in over twenty years since I created my vanity domain, and I try very hard not to be disingenuous or misleading in any way.

I am sorry for anyone who has to be witness to “troll wars”, but I will not tolerate them or their kind of behaviour. It’s just that simple.

Hey, since my thread is about to be locked thanks to a certain someone I called out at the start, I just want to reiterate the original point.

You guys bicker and argue over the nerdiest stuff, and I love you for it.

Except for the people who try to drive in a wedge.

When the argument is less about the game and more about the individual, we've made a horrible turn, and I'm sorry that I was a part of it happening.

But that Daredevil/Haley thing is happening. I have EMT class tonight, and on Saturday, but I'll find the time. >:D

It all makes so much sense now. Remeber how you were banned for being obtuse, rude and mean spirited and here you are still up to the same old tricks!

So, have you grasped those manouver rules by now? Or do you still know better then the devs?

Ah... It makes so much more sense now. I had already forgotten about him. I wish to do so again.

Yeah, I wouldn't call that rude. If that's rude, then 99% of us should probably just delete our accounts now.

There are two points I will list separately

It IS rude. He was stating (passive aggressively) that I am not civil. If you do not see that as rude, that is a lack of understanding of what rude is on your part. Now was that an "attack" style rude? that is debatable, but it is a 100% fact it is rude.

>To the 99% of us should probably....

No you shouldn't delete your accounts, but you should stop being rude and then blaming the victim for defending themselves.

Well dang it, it sure was rude of me to point out that some of us notice repeated bad behavior and to issue a plea for us all to get along better. As Jar Jar would say, "How rude!"

It was rude to passive aggressively call me not a civil adult, yes.

WTF!? I didn't make that list? I'm so disappointed.

2 reasons you didn't;

  • You still try to be civil in the middle of fighting the others on the list are causing.
  • While I saw a few inciting remarks (okay, several) it wasn't every thread you were part of.

I don't know if I have ever had a heated debate with your current or previous screen names, if i have i apologize and I mean no offense in this one either, but I am about to try to dispense some FRIENDLY advice. Given the post that you're reacting to, I think you may be taking things personally when the mensch was not intending to insult you or to be rude. A large number of flame wars/locked-threads are due to the electronic medium namely because people can't hear the tone of the written word and they read it as being insulting and directed at them when that's not the intent, and then they react with a little bit of sarcasm and the other side reacts more. Personally, I learned a long time ago in a galaxy far far away...

actually it was on the wotc star wars forums, but that was just too good a set up to pass by... to DECIDE to not take offense to any forum post unless they named me specifically and directly insulted me (as opposed to criticizing something I said), if we all followed that priciple then there would be near zero locked threads. And to be clear that's good advice for everyone, including myself, and i'm not singling you out as needing this advice more than anyone else.

But seriously, Brad and a few others definitely don't belong on that list (in my opinion), rgrove0172 is way too new to these boards to have established a pattern one way or another but I think he's a decent guy from my interactions with him, I *might* agree with one name on that list (but I have my own biases), and the rest are questionable at WORST. Anyone can have a bad day and be grumpy, people shouldn't hold occasionally bad days agains each other, so in conclusion "CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?"

Pretty soon their will be more locked threads on this forum than unlocked ones... ;)

If you watch carefully (and I know you do,) you can generally see the who, why, and how of this. I fail to understand why we can't all just be the civil adults we know we can be. It really is a few repeat customers that think we don't notice when they grab a new moniker. We notice.

Odd the last two threads to be locked I did not contribute to.

The consistent thing you can see in any locked post, is that as soon as anger happens, you can see multiple people attack the perceived threat, really fast. You can also see a lot of passive aggressive baiting words/comments. It is usually done by either stating there comment is wrong with no supporting evidence or outright insulting then complaining when the target of the insult responds. You can see this behavior in those two threads when I had zero to do with. The repeat customers that are the issue, are using a consistent moniker. If you need a list of the offending parties I will provide them in a list below, without the "you know who you are" kind of passive aggressiveness.

There will be lots of rude comments whenever you see the following people in a post.

  • Desslok
  • 2P51
  • bradknowles
  • whafrog
  • HappyDaze
  • RichardBuxton
  • themensch

The more of that list you get in a thread, the more likely it will turn into a locked thread. You want to get rid of the likelihood of a locked post? remove all of the people from that list, and you will not have a locked post. I challenge you to find a locked post in this forum that they did not have their hand in.

Maybe you should use the ignore function on Naughty List so you won't have to deal with the rudeness.

And it is so good to see you back, Haley! You had been gone for a while.

Life got in the way. But it's nice to be missed!

Here is a stat block for Haley's character. Just off the top of my head and no where near min-maxed but I don't usually go in for those builds anyway.

You know, posting an image that's supposed to have my Stat block on it that i can't see and my reader can't read is surely putting you on my rude list!!! ;)

Now I want stats for the Miraluka species so I can play as Pretty Haley...

While I think a Miraluka species would suit her, in the face of their not being an official one i choose to go with human with the blindness being more colour than anything else. I'm sure we'll get one at some point as part of the F&D line.

Blind but can see is a copout...

Also "blindness as color"? Cute. :P

Blame it on my laziness of not wanting to type it out. Totally on me there and you are absolutely right.

Haley, if it isn't done before I get off work, I'll type it out for you then.

The image is really blurry, but I can read it well enough, just there's a LOT to type out.

Hi, Haley! :) I often wonder how you must imagine star wars in awesome sounds, smells, textures and other non-visual senses. Your dad must be awesome at describing moods and feelings, soundscapes and the way air and temperature might set the tone and make environment! What do you think he and you can teach us? How does he describe species you cannot see? Is he a good voice actor?

I see the villain whose name you unmasked is greyed out....wonder if he was banned or kamikazed his own account?

That's truly amazing. I got into a regrettable negativity -filled post exchange exactly ONE time and Im considered rude?

I will admit that some of my posts in the Range Band threads were retaliatory but if you read the post I think most would say those of us involved got as good as we were giving. Nobody won, that's for sure! LOL

At any rate, its very easy to be misunderstood in a written post without the benefit of tone inflection and facial expressions to help. I sincerely hope nobody pays any attention to anybody's list of rude people and gives everybody a chance to sometimes be an ass as long they come out of it.

Consider the source amigo, consider the source. I'll admit even I got my hackles up a little in our posts in that thread, but in the spirit of making this community a better place, I put those feelings aside.

I wasn't born blind. My vision was always bad and was fading my whole life until all i saw was shadows and then, finally, nothing. Most sighted people are surprised to learn that you can forget what things look like. When you can see, you not only see what your eyes are perceiving at that moment but you're constantly comparing and cataloging what you're seeing with things you've seen in the past. It's like new sights keep reawakening memories of old sights. Once the stimulation of new sights stop, the memories fade, too.

I know, for instance that grass is green but I've forgotten what green is. Sighted people think that someone who has gone blind will see things as they remember them but, in reality, after a few years, the memories are gone. I don't know what I look like. I can't remember what my family looks like. It's not lime I don't know them. I just don't know what they look like. They're still just as familiar to me as ever because what some thing looks like is irrelevant to me.

But my family has lived with me through it all so they've adapted with me. If I didn't lose my sight, my dad might never have thought to describe gammoreans as smelling like musty old leather while hutts have the faint aroma of fresh ground beef!

Star wars is very visual so I doubt it could ever be fully translated for the blind. A lot of creatures look like animals so it's easy to say, "here comes Admiral Ackbar. He looks like a sqjid." But i've never seen a squid! He does voices to help create a hook for me to remember but I wouldn't call him a great voice actor. He does do awesome accents, though!

"I'm Haley and I approve this stat block!"

Except maybe Deception. I'm a terrible liar. :P

Funny. This is like my Top 10 list of posters (positive). Seriously, many of those on the list IMO make very constructive, well thought out and game related comments/ideas/critiques (but maybe it's because I 'tune out' when all the confrontational BS erupts for no real reason, and I mean confrontational, not just well made counterpoints).

Also disappointed that you didn't make the top 10, maybe next year MM. :P

Very interesting. Thank you so much for sharing. Star Wars, especially the Outer Rim, has a lot of texture to it in my mind.

Dusty, oily, gritty, rancid, musky. The way a metal ship might feel to touch and smell on a hot or cold, wet or dry planet. Dusty, dented armor and oil-stained blasters.

Star Wars is visual, but also very tactile and full of textures and smells.
